Price changed after paying in full?

Hi all,

I ordered a $35k base model with autopilot. Yesterday I found out that the price has changed and the autopilot was included with no extra cost. I paid the amount in full as my delivery appointment was in the afternoon. When I picked up my car, the delivery specialist asked for another $3000+tax if I wanted to have autopilot added. He said it was a system glitch.

I have the screenshot showing that the amount due is 0, and it also clearly states that "The information below will be used to generate your final contract and your final payment amount." My understanding is that the price shouldn't be changed after the transaction was complete and finalized. Does Tesla has the right to do the price adjustment on my order or not to honor the descriptions listed (i.e. autopilot included) after the contract has established? Please give some advice, thanks!

Everyone who ordered an SR yesterday for $35K received a confirmation saying Autopilot Included. The description was intended to cover all models except the SR, since every other model now includes Autopilot in the base price. Someone at Tesla screwed up and forgot to remove the description from the SR vehicle and a lot of people got excited thinking they would get AP included in a $35K car. I spoke to a rep at Tesla yesterday who confirmed that it was an error and Tesla is not going to honor it.

As to whether they have violated any laws by doing this...I don’t know. I’m not a lawyer and I doubt you could hire a lawyer and fight the case for less than the $3K it will cost you to add Autopilot. But I agree it’s a lousy situation all around and Tesla was very sloppy yesterday in their rush to get the new pricing into the system.

You were just caught in the transition of Autopilot from option to standard, with a price increase. Tesla should give you what you paid for, which sounds like the new price structure. Kind of strange for an older order, but probably $1k less than your old order? Tesla is usually pretty good about fixing these things fairly, I think. You seem to have a reasonable case, though I didn't check all the prices.

...the contract has established...

Your above document is not an official one. It is a stepping stone to produce an official document below:

You would have a better proof if you have one that says:

"Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement
Final Price Sheet"

It's understandable that Tesla made a mistake because its blog is very clear that "ALL":

"All Tesla vehicles now come with Autopilot bundled as a standard feature for less than the prior cost of the option."

That's why SEC requires all CEO tweets to be vetted by Tesla's lawyer.

Apparently, Tesla forgot to pay for an English Grammar specialist to write something to mean that "All on Tesla models on the order Website and excluding 'off-the-menu models..."

It is not our job to clean up Tesla's mistakes. They need to own up to theirs and hire an English Grammar professor!
