You can buy the car with 20’s included and then buy new takeoff 22’s very reasonably if you search. I’ve seen some people asking a crazy price, around $5,000 but you can find them brand new as low as $2k-$2,500 with tires and sensors. I bought a perfect set for less than $1000 without tires. Then put new Goodyear’s on them and painted them Midnight Silver, which I think looks so much better than the factory satin black. We have a body shop so I even change our S 21’s and 19’s to Midnight Silver for the same reason. I think the proportions of the X make 20" wheels look too small, the bigger 22" front and deeper offset rear 22’s make the car.

I like the look of the black 22 inch wheels but didn’t want such a low profile tire not the efficiency loss. As a compromise, I bought the Tsportline 20 inch wheels in black. Best of both worlds in my opinion. I think they look pretty nice.

Totally agree. A decision of beauty vs. functionality. For me, the 22” in a dark color definitely make the car have a weightier/planted feel.

The 20” painted dark also has its merits. Would lean towards 20” if you plan on towing on the heavier side.

We had the Sonic Grey 20" originally and I was happy but after I upgraded to the 22's it may sound crazy but the X seems to have a totally different presentation with the big wheels. I really don't notice any difference in power consumption, they say it can use more but it may depend on the tire choice more than the wheel size.

21' maybe a good choice, will it be possible to use model s's 21 wheels on X ?
The tires need to be a taller profile if 21" wheels are used. There are fewer options for 21" tires to maintain the correct height so the pricing of the ties is higher. I checked the options for that scenario and it was expensive. The X at the original Model X reveal had 21"s on it.

i know , thats why i have this idea.
check the photo, the proportion is way better than 20" or 22"
and the style is also better looking

Yeah but availability of the right size 21’s are really expensive, 22’s make more sense because tires are more available and cheaper plus they visually fill the black wheel openings more. There are wheel size calculators online to figure the correct diameter if you want to whange sizes. Styling is subjective, to me it looks like some teenager bought some wheels off the internet.

I ordered mine with the 20in silvers, immediately on delivery I realized I made a huge mistake. Found a member selling his referral 22’s black for $3k, the X looks soooo much better (in my opinion) with the 22’s. Slight increase in power consumption (only put 500 miles on the new set so far, so might improve), other than that I havent noticed much in terms of steering and comfort, the X is a fairly bumpy ride regardless. Keeping my 20’s for winter time driving, considering getting them powder coated black though:p

Our X looks so much better on 22s than 20s. Photos also don't show up how gorgeous the finish on the 22inch turbines are!!

You loss 5-10% of range, but that doesn't really matter for us, and we have a 75D. The 20s will be kept for winter when the extra range does matter more.

I already get horrible range with the way I drive, 22s will mean I am constantly charging.

Just tried to paint the wheel, doesn’t seem to look the same, I did manage to screw this up when I put on the lug nuts. I have to start over
