Commercial power is billed by KVA not KW, so they would care about energy losses and small efficiency gains there. As well as the reduced wear and tear on conductors. voltage creates less waste heat than amps. Saving stress wear on parts like batteries, wires or allowing smaller or cheaper parts to be used. Thats why power transmission lines operate in the 500,000v range to prevent melting wires.
