Regen braking allowance?

So today on the latest FW I have experienced the reduced regen braking warning and subsequent reduction in regen.
It happened on the way to where I was going and on the way back, both legs over 1hr long with a mix of motorway and fast A roads. Battery was nowhere near full, approx 70% when it first occured and I had been driving for a good half an hour too so it wasn't due to cold, plus it's 13c today.
is there a limit on how much regen then car can accept? The warning seemed to go once I was able to boot it a little bit again.

I’m in a loaner 2020 m3 rwd and the regen is so different to my 2021 m3p.

Even the in this weather it says it’s cold and almost no regen. In mine it would have full regen in these current temps. It’s caught me off guard a few times over the last few weeks.
