The ZoE (the current one, not this concept) uses the AC compressor to cool the battery. It is air cooled but air conditioned. It handles 43kW charging pretty well for such a small battery (22kWh).

It does look like Renault takes care of its batteries (most Renault ZoE batteries are rented, for life...)...
 
The other oddity with the Zoe is that there is one version that can take 43kW AC but it uses the motor windings as part of the charging system, but it results in poor single phase charging efficiency. There is another version that uses a conventional solid state charger that can't handle as much power, but has more uniform efficiency between single and 3-phase operation.
