If you are looking for something cool to do during National Drive Electric Week, grab a partner and compete in "Charge to NoVa," Drive Electric RVA's first road rally for electric vehicle owners.

Rally participants will travel along US-1 from the Richmond Electricians' JATC in Ashland, VA to MOM's Organic Market in Woodbridge, VA, a total of 71 miles (give or take a few). Each team of driver and navigator will have to use their smarts to locate visual checkpoints and manage the range of their EV. Charging stations will be available along the route.

Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers, including a free tasting at Center of the Universe Brewing, passes for electric go-kart racing at Thunderbolt Indoor Karting, and a discount on a car wash and detailing from DetailXperts.

Registration fee is $10 and non-refundable. Event is rain or shine. Register here: National Drive Electric Week: Charge to NoVa

What's the objective of the competition? Sounds like noting visual checkpoints along the way but also range management?? I am curious how a Tesla can compete against a Leaf etc.

That's a good question. We did award extra points for having 20 percent of your battery remaining at the end, so that gave the Teslas an advantage. But the clues were hard enough to put everyone on equal footing.
