Roads in China compared to roads in the US

It varies: Sichuan-Tibet Highway

;)

Then there are those wacky "nail houses", although the roads around them are usually in great shape before they are brand new surfaces and there's a lot of highways that are way overbuilt for the current traffic levels.
Road infrastructure in China's metropolitan areas is amazing. Meanwhile in San Francisco, South Van Ness Street still looks like it belongs in a Syrian war zone. If we could order 100 less F-35's from Lockheed and spend it on roads it would be amazing...

That's all about legacy issues. For example the US national highway grid started just a high under a century ago, and the modern Interstate system is about 65 years old. In contrast China didn't even think about starting on an above-grade national road system until 30 years ago.

Plus China's roads haven't yet met with the sort of level of use that the US roads get.

So yeah, there are a bunch of spanky new roads in China at this moment if you stick to those. You find spanky new roads in the US, too. You'll also find old ones, as well, that have seen a lot of traffic which will wear on them, but they've still got usable life in them so won't get replaced with spanky new anytime soon.

Lol. I wasn’t aware that the federal defense budget repaired roads, let alone state roads, also just to be clear comparing the roads in any state in the US to roads inside Syria is ridiculous, take it from someone who has been to both.
