Take it to service center. They should fix it. Most of the Mobil techs who come out are clueless. This one time this mobile service guy came and told me oh I do stuff for Tesla on side. I can go sound barriers on your doors for you for 200bucks My new 2021 Model S makes a crazy noise, like a moose call when locked and unlocked. The sound seems to come from the trunk. Mobile service was unable to fix. Anyone else have this issue ?
OP, did you ever figure out what was causing the noise? My '20 MSLR+ is making the same sound that you described. I've never heard a moose call, but like you, I would imagine it sounds just like when I lock and unlock my doors! Sounds like a rear door, or hatch mechanism. I'm out of warranty so I'd like to try and resolve it myself.
Got an audio clip of the sound? I've found the handles can dry out a tad and get a little squeaky at times. Some silicon lubricant spray around the edges fixes it.
Can you get out of the car and figure out which lock/handle is the origin of the sound? Thanks for the reply. Here is a link to the video I took with the sound. It's funny because it sounds exactly as the OP described.
I didn't think that pre-facelift Model S cars has the boom box functionality to change lock sounds. I'll certainly check the car when I get home to investigate. That would certainly be a simple resolution! It’s a selectable sound. Just pick a different sound. You have the goat sound selected. There are about a dozen sounds to choose from. Goat is default.
I also don’t think the sounds occur when you unlock the car. Only when it locks.I didn't think that pre-facelift Model S cars has the boom box functionality to change lock sounds. I'll certainly check the car when I get home to investigate. That would certainly be a simple resolution!
So it's definitely coming from the hatch. Seems to be the lock mechanism. My car is an early 2020 build and does not have the boom box feature, so it's not an adjustable lock sound. I tried a little lube in the hatch lock mechanism with no luck. I suppose I'll make an appt with Tesla. I'll keep this thread updated with what they say in case anyone else has a similar issue.I also don’t think the sounds occur when you unlock the car. Only when it locks.
I replaced the cinch mechanism (a Mercedes part) and the noise went away for a week. Now it's back all of a sudden! I'll have to remove the hatch plastics again and see what else it could be. I'm baffled. So it's definitely coming from the hatch. Seems to be the lock mechanism. My car is an early 2020 build and does not have the boom box feature, so it's not an adjustable lock sound. Well, after several hours of troubleshooting and multiple rounds of taking down and putting up the hatch trim pieces, I found the root cause of the loud sound from the hatch. I climbed into the hatch and had one of my children open it and close it until I could pinpoint the exact source of the sound. It turns out the sound triggered by the unlocking of the hatch was coming from a speaker. I took the plastics off yet again and isolated the specific speaker, while at the same time noticing that the connectors for the speaker and the hatch light are all the same. I looked at the light and it was not illuminated despite being connected. I thought possibly that the connectors had been mixed up and the light connector was plugged into a speaker which was causing the noise when the vehicle was unlocked as the light connector was powered. Sure enough I switched the connectors from the speaker making the noise to the light and the light popped on and the sound completely went away.I replaced the cinch mechanism (a Mercedes part) and the noise went away for a week.
