Sunshade Efficacy

I hate using a sunshade for for windshield, and I know that using it helps keep the car cooler... but does it really protect the dashboard? Are there any long-time owners out there who have experienced cracked dashboards (and wished they had used a sunshade)?

I use it almost every day. This was taken at night. The color of this umbrella is very beautiful when there is light. So I took a photo specifically at night when the street lights were on.
I really like using this umbrella, it is very easy to open and close. Moreover, the umbrella handle is made of soft rubber and will not scratch the screen.

Ignore the dust on the windshield, it's been a while since I've had my car washed.
