we've arrived. Over the weekend there was rather more traffic in California than I would have expected. Everywhere else it was pretty much just semi's. We have 3 drivers, and didn't want to stay in hotels, so we just rotated. The only stops were @ superchargers to power up (and nap!). The car was totally packed (we fit A LOT of stuff in there) and did fantastically.
re: superchargers....all but 1 were open. In Reno:
- there's a very big new SC station that advertises 250KW. It's outside, but access is through a multi-level parking garage associated with a casino. Entrance to the parking garage was blocked (truck parked across the entrance). I was bummed - wanted to see what the higher was SCers did.
- instead, we used the older 6-node reno charger. But 2 were down (noted in the nav app, but unmarked @ the site). The other 4 were in heavy use and the charging rate sucked. We never got above 45KW.
We found the nav app a bit frustrating. A few legs of the trip it clearly had planned for us to charge ALL THE WAY up, because anything else left us unable to make it to the next SC. That takes an age. There was always another SC 1/2 way between, so we just re-did the nav and went to that one after a 70% charge. It's nice to be able to see that someone was actually using each SCer - helped convince us it was actually open.
