Does the 12v on the M3 need to be maintained? similar to gas cars where you turn it on every week or two, is the same required for the M3?

12v is a wear item. Plugging in the car doesn't change that. Hopefully your car will let you know 12v is failing before you run into issues with it.

Actually plugged in doesn't matter for the 12V battery. When the 12V battery needs to be recharged and the car is not active it enters "support/conditioning" mode, where the High Voltage contactors are closed and the Power Conversion System recharges the 12V battery.
