Tesla is already producing more than a thousand cars a week at Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai, according to media reports in China.

Several executives at Gigafactory 3 gave interviews at a ceremony this week to celebrate the first deliveries of cars produced in the factory. A group of 15 employees at the plant were the first to receive a China-built Model 3.

According to a report from Global Times China:

Song Gang, production director of the Tesla Gigafactory 3, said that the factory produces 28 or more Model 3s every hour and works about 10 hours each day, which means that it produces more than 1,000 cars each week. He added that the factory will be able to produce 3,000 cars per week “in the near future.”

Tao Lin, vice president of Tesla, told the outlet that Gigafactory 3’s production capacity “will ramp up at a speed that exceeds your imagination.”

Tesla has said it plans to build both the Model 3 and Model Y at the Shanghai factory, ramping production up to 250,000 units next year.

Yeah, no *sugar*. Unlike the US, China still knows how to build. Having worked in American industry, it's difficult to explain to people why I'd prefer a Chinese-made Model 3 over an American one. It's not something I'm happy about.
