Tesla said today it will offer a “mid-range” battery Model 3 for $45,000 before incentives.

“Costs $35k after federal & state tax rebates in California, but true cost of ownership is closer to $31k after gas savings,” Chief Executive Elon Musk tweeted.

The rear-wheel-drive, mid-range Model 3 will travel 260 miles on a single charge. Top speed is listed at 125 mph and 0 to 60 MPH is 5.6 seconds. With the update, the rear-wheel-drive option is now only available with the mid-range car and the long-range option is only available as dual motor all-wheel-drive. The long-range price also jumped $5,000 for a base price of $54,000.

The Model 3 order page notes that the $35,000 standard battery version will be available for order in 4-6 months.
