I use autopilot as much as possible but sometimes I'll put on just the cruise control on then forget that is not autopilot and find myself drifting out on my lane. I wonder if that's what happened here.

I've caught myself with that too, need to watch that!

Yep, mode confusion happens easily enough, particularly when LKA only alerts the driver veering off-lane through a weak tremor in the wheel, which is practically imperceptible at highway speeds. This urgently needs a fix with sharp audible warning/wakeup tone.

Ouch! Makes me cringe watching this accident

The only solution is to immediately utter the prayer "Ach, 'twill buff out, for sure, Amen!"
