Tesla in Tampa

Steve, I'm hoping the same is true for mine. I tentatively have a Saturday delivery! (I'm also in Pinellas county) and I'm hoping to hear from Ben soon.
That's great Gavin! Ben mentioned he had 2 deliveries scheduled for Saturday when I spoke with him last night. I'm still in paperwork limbo now - waiting for finals from Tesla for bank. I check my inbox every 90 seconds. How long have you been waiting and what is your configuration? The closer the time comes to actually see our own car, the more thrilled I get. I've restrained from just driving to Tampa to get a look

Drum roll......

The back room is a little more cluttered ....:

The center isn't officially open yet and the guys are busy prepping cars but they're happy to meet customers who drop in. I think the guys have a nice, service-oriented Tesla attitude.

I visited the Tampa Service Center this morning. My car needed the TPMS calibrated and their tool was unavailable when the car was originally prepped. I had to make an airport run so rather than having them come to me, I went to them. Mark and Aaron were very hospitable.

After the 2 or 3 minute calibration and a nice test drive, Aaron took me through the facility and we talked Tesla for a while. He is very familiar with most of the local owners and reads the forums. Tesla is hearing our comments! Warren's Roadster Sport was there - I recognized it. They have lots of brand new equipment including a number of lifts and other devices. For those of you who have not seen the underside of your S, it's impressive - solid steel plate front to back that is really thick and tough! At the shop, they can swap batteries, powertrains and provide just about any conceivable maintenance. It's really comforting to know these guys are "close by".

I look forward to the grand opening and hopefully our Florida TMC can coordinate a group gathering at the same time.

BTW, the center is NOT where the Model S will try to navigate you to. It is a couple miles south of I4 on 301 - take Exit 7 off I4, cross MLK and go about a mile. It's in an office park on the left.

Me too!
As soon as Mark provides a date I will start organizing a meet-up. Maybe afterwards we can meet at the nearby casino. I haven't been there yet. Do you happen to know of a good place inside the casino to meet? Maybe a suitable restaurant?

My Model S's nav had no problem locating the address.

Larry, I actually "spoke" the directions in and included the North in the address - Mark mentioned some folks had the problem I did, but if you left out the North part, it worked. My iPhone seemed to find it - but it has been updated to the new Apple maps not Google. Fortunately, I ignored the car's navigation because I had a pretty good idea where the center was and had previously located it on the PC :)

Have you ever heard of or been to a Coffee and Cars event at Dupont Registry? Some of us should plan to meet at one of those. They are monthly gatherings of local car enthusiasts. The Tesla's could take over!

There is a new Hard Rock Cafe at the Casino - good place to meet and socialize.

It was nice to get the Model S out for a "real" highway drive today. Getting up to 90+ on the Howard Frankland Bridge was effortless. I need to be careful, I have two expensive cars now and can't afford to have any tickets on my insurance!

As I recall I typed in the address exactly as it appeared on the Tesla website and had no problem.

Another one of our club members, Ken Stokes, suggested that and after we attended an EV workshop in Tampa he took me over there in early December. I had an ulterior motive in going there because prior to the Tampa service center opening Tesla was storing and detailing some of their Model Ss at Dupont Registry. So I was hoping that I might catch a glimpse of my car there. The receptionist was very nice and let me poke my head in the display area. I saw two Model Ss among the museum quality cars, but not mine. After that we went next door to their custom shop and spoke with Alan Morin the General Manager who is in charge of the Coffee and Cars events. Alan said that if we called in advance and got there real early we could get a spot to park our cars next to one another. He then gave us a tour of the custom shop. Wow! He is very anxious to do some customizations of Model Ss.

At the time it was getting into the holiday season and the next meeting was scheduled for December 15th so I felt it would be better if we waited a bit, but that is something we should definitely see if there is interest among club members.

Yes, that's what I had in mind, but I assumed they have more that one place to eat and have drinks. Do you have an idea for a specific location at the Hard Rock?

Thanks.

Actually, there is a Hotel, Casino and Hard Rock Cafe' (newest addition) at the complex.

Yeah, some customization will be in order eventually. I'd like to have a "clear" section in the back to show off the motor/inverter (this might not be possible though). Such a hot car and we can't show people what's "under the hood" Actually that's been somewhat entertaining in its own right... I open the frunk and say "look, no motor" - then go to the back, pop the tail and say "look, no motor". The astonished looks on people's faces are the best!

Aaron showed me the underside of an S up on a lift. Amazing how much steel is there. Also, the battery can be changed in about 15 minutes! Entire powertrains can be swapped in and out - awesome!

The Coffee and Cars would be great if we could go as a group and all park together.

Here's a photo I took of the underside of a Model S during a private tour I received at the first GET AMPED event at the Fremont factory.

Will the Tampa location be only a service center or will it be a location where one can take a test drive? Or is this not yet known?

Personally I don't think this is known yet. At this time I doubt that Mark has enough resources to support test drives. However, down the road the Tampa service center would be a logical candidate location to have a test drive event in which Tesla Florida Sales could be augmented by corporate resources. You might want to put the question to Graham Carroll directly at the Miami store.
