Well they aren’t going to build a factory right in Jakarta, a city which is literally sinking into the ocean. I don’t really know what Indonesia’s government is going to do about a city of nearly 35 million people where a significant number of those residents will need to be relocated once the ocean claims what was once there. But that will be something that will happen within the next 10-20 years, Jakarta is a city which is already doomed and everyone knows it.

I think most vehicles depreciate so quickly because you are padding the pockets of the middleman dealership and the commission paid salesperson who works there. Most cars lose some crazy amount of value the moment you sign the paperwork. ICE cars are just overpriced. If ICE cars were fairly priced they'd be cheaper in the first place.
And it should never be known how cheaply an ICE vehicle could be made... a la Tesla.

I think there was a time where if the dealership model was less greedy Tesla may have failed - because traditional auto manufacturers and dealerships could have trimmed the fat to starve the fledgling ev industry - but that time has passed. Tesla survived and will crush them.

But I don't see a heated steering wheel yet, which is a pitty. I know of two people who will not order a Model 3 because of this (and that's three if I include myself). In California it may not be an issue, but in many parts of Europa and Canada it's an important feature. It can't be very expensive to add.

What's the problem, Fred? Just wear driving gloves like Daniel Craig as James Bond in Spectre:

(no gloves but great scene!)

I almost always wore leather gloves driving my first new car, a 1983 Mercedes 380SL Roadster I bought 12/1982 with computer consulting profits at the age of 23. I didn't want the car particularly, but it was a massive "Investment Tax Credit" at the end of the first year in USA.

I still have it at my house for sentimental reasons, since I drove it across the US in August 1983 and it was my ride when I met and dated my wife in SF. ~110K miles. Need to get some minor restoration done like a new soft top. It's fun to drive because it really makes you appreciate how far auto tech has advanced. The only LCD on that car displays the AM/FM radio frequency!

I love to drive convertibles. I leased a CLK 550 Cabriolet during my mid-life crisis.

I wonder which Tesla model will become the first convertible after the rest of the product line is in production? S? 3? Something else? I just might have to settle for a Roadster II!

This explains it all: (why Yet Another Hierarchically-Organized Oracle is biased against TSLA)

"Verizon has completed its $4.48 billion acquisition of Yahoo's core internet business and said Tuesday that Marissa Mayer is stepping down. The assets, which include Yahoo Finance, will be combined with AOL brands such as The Huffington Post under a new subsidiary called Oath. Jun 13, 2017"

Tesla spends a TON of $$$ every year advertising on Verizon's platforms, no?

Let the yahoos read about Tesla on Yahoo! Finance and sell their $TSLA so we can buy more on dips!

Looking at the Yahoo! Finance TSLA page, I get to read about how Tesla cut the price of the Model S twice in one week, and two reports on how a Solar Roof customer is suing the company (the phrase "bait and switch" is used). Also, a story reported multiple times by several sources on LG Chem entering joint venture(s) with several automakers, and apparently (shock and awe!) Tesla isn't one of them.

Well... I guess this is all the relevant news on TSLA for today, I feel much better now that I'm up to date with what's going on... should probably sell some of my TSLA holdings, based on these stories.

I guess nothing else happened, like, say, some updated Model 3 offering, or anything like that. You'd think that if Tesla offered a 10% increase in range for their best-selling car while maintaining the price, that'd somehow be relevant for the increased demand this product update is likely to achieve, and consequently for the company's financials, so if that actually happened we'd read about it on that page. Right?

I would hold off until they get a heated touchscreen. On cold mornings, I can feel the tip of my index finger getting cold when I have to scroll the map. Very unpleasant. o_O

LMFAOOO! (Out to Orbit - a 28 y/o XX I socially-distanced in LA last weekend taught me what the last two O's mean) :p

Yeah, I better not drive my 3 to Montreux on the Lake Geneva shoreline this winter or my fingertip might get frostbite, turn Deep Purple, and fall off!

"Smoke On The Water" shall be the fumes of the dying ICE industry!

Never knew this origin story: A Swiss Town, A Casino Fire And 'Smoke On The Water'

We used this track in a HS "New Players" play produced in Ridgewood, NJ in the summer of 1975. I heard it during rehearsals and performances so many times it almost made me sick. 45 years later I can finally listen to it again...

Seeing this makes me want to visit Switzerland so bad this winter to ski. FRAC COVID-19! I'll just have to settle for Taiwan... Got our passports issued same day on Friday... Executing our plan to "Escape to Taiwan" by 11/02/2020 at the very latest... 15 days left and decrementing...

Anyone want to share insight to what creating a vehicle capable of 500K low maintenance miles does for the resale value of said vehicle? Why do most vehicles heavily depreciate so quickly?
Because with ICE vehicles buying used is often buying someone else's problems. It will take a while for folks to figure out that's not the case with Tesla.

I sure hope Elon is working on electric/solar houseboats since this will be the demise of a lot of areas.

Oh no. One of my most used finance page bought by my one of my most hated corp

How come we are not talking about the upcoming earnings report?

Is it that BAD ? /S
My assumption is that it will be good, but in past quarters some analysts have taken the highest numbers from this group and used them to stage a "missed analysts' expectations" narrative.

Because there's another thread dedicated to it?

Thoroughly recommend that thread for the financial aspects - there are some great posts there.

Away from the financials I will be looking for the updated production capacity table and associated comments to determine:
  • If Fremont has ramped to 500k/year for 3/Y as per the asterisk in the Q2 ER. I assume this is related to GA5 coming on line.
  • What the model 3 production rate target is for Shanghai now that the 3rd shift has been added.
  • Confirmation re Europe M3 being shipped from China rather than the US as this should allow a higher proportion of Model Y to be produced in Fremont
  • If limited Model Y production will start in Shanghai in Q4
  • Where Semi will be produced and if limited production will start in Q4 or Q1 21
  • Confirmation of guidance re 500k production in 2020
Icing on the cake would be any additional info re FSD (perhaps even a video) and on 4680 yield at Kato Road.

If I get all of that (in addition to the financials) I will be very happy :)

That doesn't arouse anymore. Profits secured. Growth intact;) Financials of Tesla are good.

You know what would jump me through the roof of excitement coming days?

A Youtube-video showing a model3 with latest 4D-FSD software nailin' some difficult left-right turn intersection with crossing traffic, lights and staying in lane in curvy roads. Some next gen stuff!

( That, or a model S external refresh :D)
