I'm no expert, but my guess is this is for the INSIDE part of the door. The outside would still be skinned in steel or alumininium sheet.People say this information is not trustworthy.
A source close to IDRA, the supplier of Giga Press, stated that Tesla will die-cast all four doors of the vehicle in the next step, instead of the traditional stamping process. cz the efficiency of die casting is higher than that of stamping.
I would have to build maybe 3 prototypes and evolve the design a bit to know if this is true.
Does anyone know the yield strength of the as cast aluminum?
Am I reading them right, that he sold over 2M shares today? That's more than the normal exercise tax selling he's been doing, right?Elon sold shares today: Tesla SEC Filings
@kanwegHelp appreciated.
There was a post I believe less than a couple of days ago that had calculations showing how the PHEV subsidy seems to be tailor made for GM (?) PHEV battery size.
I tried to find it back using the search tool, but failed.
Am I reading them right, that he sold over 2M shares today? That's more than the normal exercise tax selling he's been doing, right?
No, he aquired his usual 2,165,241 shares and sold his usual 934,091ish shares
I agree there is no good reason to allow this, while the monitoring system and passenger side seat weight shows only the driver is in the car.
There is also no good reason that the drivers cell phone still works to play games while they are driving. I also support some sort of lockout to those drivers phones so only basic navigation, phone calls work with hands free options while the vehicle is being driven.
I called my brother Bob today, talked for a bit, hung up, and called me back. Said he just got a ticket for talking to me. He thinks it's around $200.America -
Guns for everyone - hell yeah!
Games for passengers - Not safe!!!
Sorry to hear you go. All the best!As I told the tmc folks (to shut down my account) - I'm being a distraction more than helpful these days. Wish you all well and will be holding TSLA for quite some time for the rest of the shares I have left.

Man upI can't get the other half to sign off on any more!! Cash is burning a hole in my pocket!
Anyone had this experience before? Any tips?!
This is a very informative and helpful post to better understand how some of the language and programs in the BBB have so grossly ‘de-volved’ from the original Green New Deal - thank you @winfield100@kanweg

if you look at the timing of the “EV” (and PHEV) US federal tax subsidy from a cynical viewpoint, the tax deduction came about just as the GM Volt was getting released around 2012.
A number of years previously, before GM went bankrupt, if i recall correctly, IEEE Spectrum had an EV conference in Washington DC, September 3-5, 2008, that a few members of EVADC club went to, one of them with a 2nd generation Prius*,
(our club would exhibit EV’s at the Washington DC auto show)
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle developments in the US: Trends, barriers, and economic feasibility
There is a growing interest in Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) concepts for private, public, and utility services across the USA. This has encouraged the establishment of a number of small companies providing expertise and components for evaluation and demonstration system vehicles, and...ieeexplore.ieee.org
(*the Prius had a bunch of solar cells glued and hard wired to the roof and everywhere and would give an extra 1-2 miles range, but it worked)
there were a few other EV’s, a EV Scion from University of Delaware with a 150-200 mile range
A vice president of GM gave a talk about EV’s, that, summed up, said,
“we won’t consider anything unless we can make at least 1,000,000 units”
(GM stock was around $20/share and I sold all my GM the next day.) and
The federal tax incentive was,
$2,500 if the vehicle had at least a 5kwh battery
$417 for each additional kilowatt hour, in 12 steps, from 5kwh to 16kilowatt hours, to $7,504, capped at $7,500
this was done right around when the GM Volt first came out with its 16 kilowatt battery,
( before the enlarged it to around 18.2 or so Kwh. )
The Volt actually had about 10.1- 10.2 usable kwh, 2/3 of the battery, (from 83,000 miles use)
it’s somewhat like the tax was aimed at the Volt
if you look at the linked chart, way back in time when there were fewer EV and (PHEV, (2nd page))
you will notice even today, the PHEV have tiny batteries no matter what, most not even now getting to 16
I didn't see the post, but I've written some pretty stupid things myself (in case it wasn't obvious). As I told the tmc folks (to shut down my account) - I'm being a distraction more than helpful these days. Wish you all well and will be holding TSLA for quite some time for the rest of the shares I have left.
That got me thinking on the door skin. It makes sense, but an extra step no less. Guessing it's just too thin so it cools too quickly and would void from lack of flow? I haven't seen the finish on any of them so far, but why not the skin too?I'm no expert, but my guess is this is for the INSIDE part of the door. The outside would still be skinned in steel or alumininium sheet.
Think about it. No inserts or extra plates to beef up where the hinges are mounted. Cast on the inside, sheet on the outside. Reinforcements for side-collision built into the design.
Far be it for me to say it's cheaper or better than stamping a door, but if Tesla figures out it is then we benefit. It would be one heck of a solid door.
