Speaking to Autocar, Musk said the company is working on an amphibious vehicle that could eventually see production. While he cautioned that it's a "low priority project," he told the publication it will look like the Esprit but be roughly 10 percent larger. Musk went on to say the vehicle would be based on the Model S and the company could produce less than ten units.

Think a little blue sky. The key challenge of a submersible car is sealing the vehicle and making it waterproof. Work in that area could have other benefits.

Besides, it's cool and cool stuff is always worthy of research.

I wonder if it's a tongue in cheek reference to the ambibious James Bond car he bought. I recall that it was rumoured that Elon was going to try and make it truly functional but this was a just for fun, billionaire plaything idea and not a Tesla corporate goal.
