Forgive me everyone, including Bonnie!

But I read this and immediately thought ... "I would have changed my name". Then I read it again, one letter off and realized the surname (last name) was Watthouse, not ... oh, never mind.

Teg, to the uninitiated ... what are we looking at?

Today's clue pointed us to the livejournal profile for (game character) Juliet Watthouse which included a profile picture that I traced to an article on Mercury Arc Valve rectifiers. I gather this was a way to take current from a giant (hyrdroelectric) AC generator and transform it to DC. I guess, in a way, the Tesla Supercharger does a mini version of this using more modern technology.
