considerably faster than that - I'll let readers calculate the mph from below numbers (double check km to mi also)Does anyone think this speed is going to be under its own power on level ground?
Elon's personal Roadster has reached well over 8000 mph.
"Escape velocity is the speed at which an object must travel to break free of a planet or moon's gravitational force and enter orbit. A spacecraft leaving the surface of Earth, for example, needs to be going about 11 kilometers (7 miles) per second, or over 40,000 kilometers per hour (25,000 miles per hour), to enter orbit."
NASA - Escape Velocity: Fun and Games
___________min max
Roadster:_19.9 33.9 km/sec [12.4 mi/sec 21.2 mi/sec]
Earth:_____29.3 30.3 km/sec
Mars:_____22.0 26.6 km/sec
Current speed of Tesla Roadster which is moving toward the Asteroid Belt?
note: see the EDIT section which is where the above table comes from
and now seems it might be closer to 36.3 km/sec ... someone smarter than me and more patient will get even better numbers, I suspect. I just know it is really, really fast and still takes years to travel just to Mars and back... orbital mechanics doesn't seem very mechanical to my simple mind.
even more details
Starman/Roadster in a=1.795 AU orbit, now what's the method to this madness?
