i got a spare assembled: used rim (ebay), tirerack tpms, and a saved 265/45 tire. mounted it on the rear right (simulating a tire damage scenario)
happy to report......all works fine; did not notice any driving issues...
more importantly, the tire rack tpms works. it took about 8 min of driving at about 30 mph (2 stops at traffic lights) for the new tpms to be recognized by the car.
the tpms is 433 mhz, legal or not, it works.
