What does this icon mean?

I haven't seen this icon before. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks

Maybe it's a bug on mine because it's completely random whether I'm at work and my car's 100 yards away or I'm at home and it's 15 yards away with a building in between us. Probably the only time I haven't seen it is when I'm inside the car using it.

Same here. Maybe something wrong with the widget refresh? What intrigues me is that I can't find it in the app.

It might correspond to the text "<phone name> - Connected" etc. under "Security & Drivers" in the app.

Does that message mean the door handles will unlock the car, or only if the phone gets closer, or what?

I believe I've figured it out. When it's bright it means your phone key is connected to the car and when it's dim you're not.

That's when it's not connected. If you open the app it takes a few extra seconds to connect. To test this I activated the widget on my girlfriends phone and when I'm connected she's not and vice versa. This is how I came to the conclusion.
