My LR RWD Model 3 is doing just fine through this particularly nasty upstate NY winter. Of course, I have Michelin X-Ice 3s on there, which helps. Best RWD in the snow I've ever driven, tracks better than some FWDs I've had.
Hope it's not too spammy for forum rules, here's what I got from Tire Rack: Edit: wrong link, can't even find them now, X-Ice 3 235 45R18 - maybe they're out of stock?
Note I got the cheapest 18" rims, if you get bigger rims, you need different tires, obviously.
Although I'm doing ok with the RWD, I have been second-guessing myself and at times have wished I stretched a bit further and got the AWD just for that very reason - don't need the increased speed / acceleration, though. I'd be more confident in the snow and ice with the AWD for sure, but the RWD is doing surprisingly well. Haven't even ordered chains for it yet.
