One measures consumption, the other efficiency. Living where I do and because I'm old, I've used both miles per gallon and litres per 100 kilometers. I prefer consumption, so watt-hours per kilometer is good for me.
My old Nissan Leaf reported miles per kWh and I liked it. It seems more analogous to mpg which is what I’m used to and was easier to explain to people with gas cars how much I spent to go a certain distance. It’s pretty easy to convert though so I just do it in my head if I’m talking to someone about the car.
You should factor in price per Kwh or gallon or liter to get a full equivalence and come up with a $ (or whatever currency) per mile figure if you really want to compare.
I agree with letting the user select. Miles per kWh makes much more sense.
212 Wh / mile is 4.72 miles / kWh.
The Chevy Bolt has a display for miles / kWh at least that is what the FB group was using.
