I'm saying a new build that matches his car's specs is $56k. I'm not looking at what he paid for it. It doesn't matter if you CAN get a new one for $47k if it doesn't match the one he's selling. I assumed we were comparing apples/apples.

I have a Model X from June 2017. We bought from a private seller and the lifetime supercharging transferred to me. Not sure why if your date is correct but the car I have was definitely ordered after the date you listed.

This really isn't that hard. if you want the car now, make a reasonable offer. If you want the tax credit too, wait and then you can buy the car yourself. The OP has zero obligation to factor in his tax credit if he/she can even use it.

I bought a used MX that was manufactured in June 2017, and free supercharging transferred to me. Tesla was clear it wouldn't transfer if I sold it, though.

Sorry just saw this. No can do :). He's promised that I get final right of refusal prior to selling the car. I don't see it getting past me.

How about the possibility that everyone doesn't consider buying a Tesla to be purely financial transaction and are willing to pay a little more now than wait? There is clearly a demand to pay more for these cars than retail, even though that might go away soon. Also, IMO, if you're in the market...

Thanks, I keep going back and forth on this. I have the X and I absolutely love to drive. I think I'll be the same way with the 3 but it just makes me nervous to buy a vehicle without having ever driven one like it.

Do you have another Tesla you can compare it to?

Made reservation 3/11/2018 Purchased Model X from private party 3/24/2018 Transferred Tesla account to me on 4/17 Received invite 4/19/2018 I know Tesla owners get priority but 1. I thought that went away; and 2. I'm really surprised I was bumped up that quickly.

If that's what you want, then you should go buy it.
