    Brake dust

Really surprised to hear others are seeing a lot of brake dust. I've had my P85 with silver 21" rims for 16 months and am seeing almost no dust (OK, not relevant but I did just swap out my rims for third party staggered 21" setup). My A8 seems to get about 10 times the amount of brake dust...

P85 with 285s on rear made a bigger than expected difference

Are you getting any rubbing with the 255s on the front?

Can't wait to hear how it goes with 295s on the rear!

P85 with 285s on rear made a bigger than expected difference

Yea. I like the 25mm offset up front with the 9" rims. The TPMS sensors have already been paired but I ended buying factory TPMS sensors from the Tesla store so it isn't surprising that they worked. The third party ones that had been ordered by America's Tire had not arrived and were the...

P85 with 285s on rear made a bigger than expected difference

Here are some quick pics. Not a great photographer. Sorry it is so dark under to car because it makes it hard to fully appreciate the visual appearance of the wider rear tires.

P85 with 285s on rear made a bigger than expected difference

I hear you Zextra. Definitely planning to move up from here in the future. Rubber makes an amazing difference. Not going to go to track tires since I don't plan on auto crossing or tracking this car (waiting for the gen7 Z06 Corvette for that) but stickier tires are going to be next. - - -...

P85 with 285s on rear made a bigger than expected difference

Yesterday I finally got my TSW Nurberbrings 21x9" front, 21x10" rear with Hankook V12s in 245/35/21 front and 285/30/21 rear. Sorry no pictures yet. Just haven't had a chance to do it. Thanks to many on this board who have helped with important info that was essential in getting this mostly...

The Grey Ghost - P85 Dark Grey Metallic with Suntek Matte Wrap and Blacked Out Chrome

Thanks. Email sent to the sticker company. Good to know about certs. Seems like a sidewall bubble should be covered by manufacturer warranty. Wouldn't it? I am going to have to wait until next set of rubber to feel the benefit as I went with the Hankook Evo's which are solid but not a step...

The Grey Ghost - P85 Dark Grey Metallic with Suntek Matte Wrap and Blacked Out Chrome

Excellent. Love the new look of the wheels and tires. What did you do to get the Tesla logo on the hub cover? About to have a very similar setup with the same rims but in 21" configuration and mirror cut. Did you go from 21" rims or 19"? How does the handling compare?

    20" Aftermarket Wheels

Thanks for the help. The guys at the shop are good and passionate but pretty young and inexperienced. I had them call Tesla about the TPMS and they were told it will work. They are willing to document that they will make it right if they don't work. Rear offset is 35mm. Sounds like that...

One Man's P85+ versus P85 experience... am I being unfair to the P85?

bosgig, I couldn't agree more with your point. It is really important to ask yourself if you really want a sport sedan. The tighter you get the less compliance you get. The non-air suspension benefits from a lot less slop. To me it feels almost as tight and buttoned down as the +. But...

    20" Aftermarket Wheels

I finally got some time to go order these. I used America's Tire. Ordered the TSW Nurberbring mirror cut with 21x9 front and 21x10 rear. But there are a couple of things they did at the store that have me a bit worried: 1) they claim I should use 25mm offset for fronts. Seems everyone uses...

One Man's P85+ versus P85 experience... am I being unfair to the P85?

Fair enough but the handling of the S85 without air is a lot closer to the handling of P85+ than the handling of the P85 with air. (IMHO) Do you have the non-air suspension? Clearly, none of what I am suggesting is going to help your straight line acceleration. My point was that the non-air...

One Man's P85+ versus P85 experience... am I being unfair to the P85?

Easy to do. Buy the S85 without air suspension, upgrade wheels and rims. You are golden. I have a very early P85 (Aug 2012) and am still heart broken after driving a P85 without air and a P85+ with air. Both destroy my car's feeble attempt at suspension. Since I have a very early example...

Questions about tracking the car (road course)

+1 mnx I haven't had my Model S on the track but the TC is incredibly aggressive. Even though this car is a performance sedan, it is clearly still intended for mainstream drivers. The hesitation while apexing a turn really ruins the experience. I wish it had two or three modes rather than...

Just as I thought the P85+ couldn't get any better :)

+1 Gizmotoy And just to clarify. Pilot SuperSports are by no means superior grip to PS2s. It is the other way around. Generally the more aggressive the rubber compound the worse the wear. That's why PSSs where longer than PS2s. Still a great trade off to make since PSS are cheaper than...

    P85 owner traded to P85+

I think I like this initial path the best. Now I just need to find out if it is possible to just get the part and installation of that one piece from Tesla at a reasonable price. The rubber upgrade is easy. I would prefer to go with third party rims anyway because the current width of the...

    P85 owner traded to P85+

You guys really are killing me. I am having such a hard time not doing the same thing. But I have a Founder edition P85 and can't talk myself into getting rid of it because of the novelty of being an original. In one day I drove a P85+ loaner and a P85 without air suspension and saw that both...

    New 20" Wheels & Tires

Great rims! Has anyone tried them with 255/40/20 front and 295/35/20 rear? I wonder if that would fit. If so, it would look great. And I really don't know about under steer since the traction control is so intrusive. It is just as likely (IMO) that under steer will be about the same even...

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

Thanks, Musterion. That's helpful. No reason to push it. I will just go with 21x10" rears. That should work great with 285/30s and should still be plenty wide enough to avoid any sidewall ripple, etc. Note that it probably would have also been reasonable to stick with 21x8.5" on the front...

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

Will do Fonzie. Probably drop in on Ameria's Tire to find out the process after I get my car back from it's annual service. Because it was an early version, it has a lot of minor updates happening so I don't know how long it will be there.

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

After following some of the wheel/tire threads linked by Musterion and others I once again looked up online the TSW Nurberbrings that many have used in 20" variety and see that they now offer 21" rims. That should allow me to now do exactly what I originally wanted with 245s up front and 285s...

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

Thank Musterion. For some reason I can't follow the link you reference. I think 22s would result in a little too short of a sidewall for my taste. If 295s can fit in the space on the rears maybe 245/40R20 front and 295/35R20 rear would work. Now *that* would finally fill out the rear wheel...

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

Musterion, thanks for the info. Too bad they are 9" width on the P+ rears. I don't know where I got the idea they were 9.5". Darn. I really like the idea of having the original rims. Maybe going to 20s is the best answer after all.

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

According to the Michelin spec on tirerack.com the PS2 285/30R21 can mount on 9.5-10.5" width rims.

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

JerryNycom, I definitely like your approach. Back in May I asked about that at the Menlo Park store and they told me that would not be allowed so I never followed up on it. But did you consider putting 285/30R21s on the back? The 21x9.5 rims would theoretically allow that size and the...

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

@JerryNycom I like your answer. I originally wanted to do just that but was told by TM service (this was back in May) that they wouldn't offer the rear rims to me. Glad to hear that has changed. I will look into that approach. I feel the same way as you about wanting to look closer to stock...

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

@ PaceyWhitter I hadn't heard of PS3s. Do you know much about them? I love PS2s having used them and PS Cups on previous sports cars. From the description it sounds like they may not be what I am looking for. @ JerryNycom That's a pretty good solution overall. I didn't know Tesla would...

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

I currently have a Performance MS with 21" silver wheels. The car is now over a year old and I still love it. But I really want the following tire/wheel setup: Front 245/35R21 Rear 285/30R21 with Michelin PS2 tires. I really don't like the look of the 245's from behind when the Model S is...

    20" Aftermarket Wheels

Did either of you consider putting 285/35's on the rear rather than 275s? I guess Pirelli P-Zero has that size combination. Is there not enough clearance to support the 285s on the rear? I actually have the 21s from the factory on my perf 85 but feel that the 245s on the rear look and feel a...

    Official: Model S Service Plans

Does anyone else think the Tire and Wheel Replacement Program might have a typo? 4 years or 12,500 miles (whichever comes first) is a very strange combination. I'm assuming it should be 4 years or 50,000 miles otherwise it is really a 1 year program for most people.
