POLL: Have you had to have your 12V battery replaced?

I think I'm on my 4th battery now. I've been thinking about adding a plug up front that is tied to the jumper terminals so that I can trickle charge the darn thing.

    Model S Service Experience

For the first 8 or so years my service was top-notch. Doesn't help that our Service Center was destroyed by a fire and is marginally open at this point more than a year later (with only 6am-7am appointments available). Now I'm stuck in a revolving door whereby every "repair" seems to result...

Charge Current at this location - does not seem to work properly

When I initially brought home my Signature P85 Model S about 11 years ago I set the maximum charging current using the touch screen in the car to 30 amps (since I share a small EVSE with my Nissan Leaf). The limit has always remained set at 30 amps (except after needing to be reset after visits...

    SiriusXM Volume Scratchy

I'm on my third touch screen replacement and/or major update, the latest one after the old "black screen of death". Apparently now Intel (rather than Tegra) driven according to the repair invoice. So hopefully I received a decent CPU. Shortly following that installation I came back for more...

    SiriusXM Volume Scratchy

Just shelled out the $500 for the radio "upgrade" and noticed the crackling/static issue right out of the gate. You'd think they'd pause new installations until this issue is fixed. But I guess this is no surprise from a company that sells a car with a "radio", and then deletes the feature...

    Tesla iphone app "Cannot Connect"

Haven't been able to connect via iPhone app for some time. Noticed that the cellular bars were at 0 with a slash across them. Rebooted the display and that appeared to reset the cellular with 3.5 bars now showing. App connect is working again. Fortunately noticed that the reboot reset the...

How Long Till Solar Powered Car?

Been there, done that. The solar panels on my A8's moon roof are nearly 20 years old and are still going strong. What do they do? Run the HVAC blower motor all summer long to keep the interior of a closed car at ambient temp. Even though the leather is nearly black, I've never burned my...

3/4 pvc conduit already occupied with 240V 20A

You would probably exceed the 40% fill rule if you wanted to add the 6 gauges on top of the existing wiring, and enclosing more than three current carrying conductors requires that you reduce the allowed current to 80%, on top of the 80% you have to allow for continuous current situations.

New owners and early adopter owners: Do I detect a major difference?

I agree with Flasher. I think much of the sense of an initial tight-nit community had to do with the very small numbers of owners in the early days. Everyone knew each other. Same thing in the Leaf community and in their forum. Now I see Leafs everywhere, and for most, the car is just a car...

Do I need to upgrade my garage to NEMA 14-50?

If you have an extra circuit (say for some outlets you don't need), you could upgrade that wiring to 240V cheaply and double your charging speed.

Beginning to think something is seriously wrong with my car.....

This has been am issue since the beginning. My pearl white Sig P85 dropped 300 VIN's out of sequence, I suspect due to a need to start over from scratch.

When does 12V battery actually get charged

The 12V charges from the main pack battery from time-to-time as needed, under software control. Driving around or plugging in won't change this. Most folks only get about a year out of the 12V before it needs replacement.

A real pain removing J1772 adapter from Model S.

Somewhat related, I've noticed the time between unlocking using the touch screen and relocking has been shortened too much. I can barely get out of the car in time to slip in my adapter before the port locks again.

Plastic windows coming for model 3?

I'd be very worried about scratches and yellowing. Plastic headlight lenses turn opaque and yellow quickly here in the land of high UV. That Gorilla glass sounds like a laminate with glass on the outside which might cut the UV down before it hits the plastic. But if the inside is plastic it...

Tire slowly losing pressure with TMPS warning ... any gueses?

I like the REMA one-piece mushroom-like combo patch and plug. Safely seals from the inside and the plug protects the belts. I also use tire butter--helps protect the rim from corrosion and makes it really easy to get the tire off later.

Should I really charge SOC to 90% if I drive only 70 miles per day? (85D)

I usually only take the S out on the weekends and charge back to 50% after a drive, then I unplug the car. Before I'm set to go out again I charge to a level (usually around 70 or 80%) that will leave me not too far under 50% by the time I get home. So normally I only charge once a week...

SAE J1772 Holder in Glove Box?

It's hard to reach the glove box with my seat all the way back, so I keep mine in the cup holder. Arm rests slide over the adapter, so it's hidden and doesn't bounce or shift around. Since I almost never drink in the car, they're nearly always empty.

    Regen Changes in New Firmware?

I don't remember having regen or acceleration limited by a cold battery pack the first winter or two. Same with my Leaf. Now on a cold day with more than 50% charge, the Leaf barely slows at all, but I think they moved some of the Leaf's regen to the brake (which I hate -- makes the brakes...
