40 Amp extension

40 amp extension for charging? Have a 40 amp extension cord that I want to use for charging my model S. I’m told it should be 50 amp? Does it make a difference. May be a silly question but I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I’m still trying to register my used 2018 Model S after one month. I would like to get Tesla app going, etc. Now I have half a car. I want to upgrade my autopilot, etc.
