People asking me about my car (2018 all over again)

Lot of questions still when we go out to garage sales. I do need to change my car’s business card from having my now worthless referral number on it to a pointer to my website (AntiAntiEV.com ). The antiEV crowd is alive and well on Facebook so I use various pages on that site as a quick way of...

Should I buy a Tesla as a first car?

With car prices what they are right now I would continue with what you are doing now for transportation or spend a couple thousand on a clunker with plans to trade it in in a year or so after EV prices start dropping and used gas car prices start tumbling big time. Bound to happen. And yes...

Dealing with the Anti EV crowd on social media

Hi, I realized I was spending too much time typing the same answers over and over to ”questions” people asked on Facebook whenever a new EV announcement popped up. I decided to put basic EV info (with emphasis on Tesla Model 3) into a website to make it easier to respond. The just facts...

    End of warranty inspection

$1200…glad I put 3M VViVID on my headlights…already had a rock bounce off that material and actually rip it which is really hard to do. Didn’t damage the headlights. I also plan to have inspections done at end of each Warrantee.

Ordering Model 3 after Model Y

That really makes no sense. Plenty of superchargers along the way and a V3 in Brownsville to boot. We typically drive the distance of that entire round trip in 3-4 stops in one day with total stops for charging and eating and restrooms taking a total of up to 75 minutes in a day…and that is in a...

Aftermarket Tire Pressure [what tire pressure for my aftermarket tires?]

My Stealth with 18” wheels, Michelin Mx4s on front (originals) and Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS on rear. At 40 deg F out I put 42 lbs in each. Sticks at around 48 lbs when temp is in 80s and tires warmed up. Handles great on mountain curves and boring FL roads.

Looking for some straight answers on Model 3 Performance Tires

I replaced my rear Michelin Mx4s at 16,000 miles on my Model 3 Stealth (too much 0-60 in 3.0 seconds :)). Put on a pair of Bridgestone Potenzas RE980AS and after 10,000 more miles they have handled great in high winds and heavy rain (drove 5 hours through the rain bands of Ida at night in the...

Dealing with the Anti EV crowd on social media

Ah, good point. Apologies. I could have sworn I started this post in the M3 forum…must have been switched here when I was searching to see if anyone else was discussing misinformation. I amend my comparison to you eating at a restaurant then and objecting to people drinking wine at your table...

Dealing with the Anti EV crowd on social media

I know why I am in a Tesla Forum. Not a clue why you are if you really aren’t interested in EVs. Talk about trying to shove (mis)info down peoples throats :). You act like someone walking into a crowded bar, yelling out “I hate alcohol”, then going around trying to tell everyone that they...

Dealing with the Anti EV crowd on social media

What specifically is your question on AC or heating? For local daily driving (where cost is more of a concern than range) any reduction is inconsequential as 1] AC has less impact on mileage in my Tesla than it does on a comparable gas car, and 2) with the advanced octovalve heat pump...

Dealing with the Anti EV crowd on social media

I think the short term approach for flight will be a hybrid. Basically electric motors going up powered by a hydrogen fuel cell…VTOL style, so no need for an elevator/tail section, btw. Goal being able to get to a very high altitude where battery driven electric motors and blades optimized for...

Dealing with the Anti EV crowd on social media

Yep, I don’t mind people that want to wait…no hurry actually with EVs so backlogged on orders anyway. Just try to counter the people who choose to aggressively push misinformation and disinformation that actually convinces others to wait or even pass along the same incorrect info In turn...

Dealing with the Anti EV crowd on social media

I used to just ignore the anti everything crowd, but in recent years realized that if they are the only ones plastering comments on social media sites with minimal efforts to correct their misinformation, well there is a good percentage of the people out there that believe whatever they read. I...

    2021.36.5.3 Updating Now

Nicer release. Took a long drive using fsd and not…before and after using sentry mode. no false warnings, no unexpected braking, 6 reports sent in (a town with 400 miles of canals and 90% of roads with no lane or side markings is I think a new experience for the AI. It definitely needs to give...

2021.36.5.3 Version 10.3.1 has begun to roll out

Oh…forgot…no fake warnings, no breaking, really aggressive switching lanes…which is fine but nerve wracking at first as I’ve always made navigate on autopilot ask first. Wouldn’t mind a little voice saying switching lanes to give me a chance of looking first…its just a trust issue :)

2021.36.5.3 Version 10.3.1 has begun to roll out

Took 10.3.1 out for long spin…both using FSD and not…also before and after leaving it in Sentry mode. No problems other than 1) when coming to a Y culdesac it still goes down a stub and stops, 2) it centers in an unmarked lane road at a stop sign which is embarrassing when someone comes along...

2021.36.5.3 Version 10.3.1 has begun to roll out

Likewise…I never even got a notice…just kept testing 10.3 yesterday…maybe because I reset the car right after I used sentry mode the first time…in any case .3 is downloading then off to test normal (have to drive wife over 2 hrs away tomorrow to the airport)

    Geek alert. Kikimo car vac

Ok, seems to work great so far…and my car was dirtier than I thought. Ran it on all seats, floor, down edges of seats and various hideaways never ran out of juice before I did (Florida hot garage). Folded fits perfectly in bottom of the front console compartment with room for all the other junk...

FSD Request button goes live tonight!

I agree...I’m guessing unsafe follows are from people cutting in front of me since I’m putting too much distance between me and the cars ahead of me...the aggressive turns and braking seem poorly defined as the few that I have gotten haven’t even budged the toy poodle lounging in the passenger...

Heard the beta release might not go out until next Friday…so, do we get tested an extra week also? Been working my way back up from 92 to 98 today but still got a too aggressive a turn and a too fast braking today. No idea on the turn but guess I’ll quit driving in rush hour traffic…too much...

Cost of Model 3 roof glass replacement

I don’t know how well they work, but I bought one of those auto glass repair kits that is down in the sub trunk with all the other items I’ll probably never use on the car. Figured it wouldn’t hurt to do a quick repair if something happened 1,000 miles or so from home.

Cost of Model 3 roof glass replacement

I put PPF on just my front headlights and the parking lights below. 3M vvivid. Cost of Model 3 roof glass replacement

Last window I replaced on wife’s bmw m3 cost $1000, so the tesla price doesn’t seem so bad. Also, the top glass on a Tesla is stronger than any steel roof you find on cars from a compression loading point of view but will fracture on localized impact (ie while it is probably true that an...

FSD Request button goes live tonight!

I have early warning set for the collision warning option…usually get something for a car turning off the road half a block ahead that way but always felt it was safer. Wild speculation on what 2021.24.11 is about

I had that happen not long after buying my Tesla. Exact same symptoms. Tesla sent a tech out to replace the humidity/temp sensor and worked fine for last 20 months since. Was very intermittent when it happened. Noticed the dog mode not working first, then realized that the ac had been freezing...

New tires killed my range (20-30% decrease)

For reference, I replaced my rear Michelin tires on my 2020 model 3 stealth at 17,000 miles (they had maybe 4,000 miles left but didn’t want to mess with buying new tires in the middle of a long upcoming roadtrip). Decided to put Bridgestone Potenza Re980AS tires on the back. So far no...

Climate keeper unavailable due to system fault

Quick update. At 19,000 miles the temp/humidity sensor fix seems solid. No issues since then other than buying two new tires for the rears (The 3.0 second 0-60 thing). BTW, went with Bridgestone Potenza 18” tires. Slight hum on really smooth roads, possibly a bit quieter on crappy cement...

How much PPF did you get?

Only ones I’ve seen that cheap are the ones listed as New(other) or just New, usually by single_mom_store where the picture is of one that has been mounted in a vehicle, the description says you get the exact lights that are in the picture (and they may have scratches from storage), and every...

How much PPF did you get?

I’ve checked ebay. Even ones i saw there with lens stains and scratches were up to $600 range each. Kinda defeats the purpose as the scratching and general road wear frosting is what I want to avoid :). And the ones that said buffed and polished I REALLY would avoid...been there and done that on...

How much PPF did you get?

Two rolls of vvivid 3m ppf from Amazon for under $50. Covered those shiny chrome door sills right away as they look like they scratch easy and placed some ppf under the mud flaps to protect the paint from rubbing. Then after seeing how much headlight enclosures cost I also put the ppf on them...

I'll never be able to decide on a color

Wife wanted red so we got red. I wanted the $2k stealth option so I got that. We were both happy. Paint was defect free, all same color…when I picked it up there was one black car, one red car (ours), and 7 white cars all prepped and ready to be picked up. Pretty much the ratio we see while...

I'll never be able to decide on a color

Doubt it. Haven’t had any issues in 18k miles. I wonder if what pisses people off is that when you pass someone in a Tesla and then switch to their lane, 2 things happen…1st you zip ahead fast so probably notice you are going over speed limit so take foot off the pedal to slow down…2nd, the...

Thinking of trading my 2018 for 2021 Model 3. What would you do? [op moved to another brand]

My mind locked on the 28k miles on original tires. You aren’t having enough fun with the car :). I’m at the wear bars at 18k now. Have they offered any Stealth options at end of quarter lately or is that fun over with? If so that would be worth the switch...or find a used one for sale. Bought...

Model 3 rolling away on door opening?

Of course there is the white elephant no one talks about…why can’t the Tesla just prevent us from driving into something…unless maybe we override a warning like: “you are going to hit something. Are you sure you want to?”.

I'll never be able to decide on a color

All this talk of colors reminded me. A guy that painted funny cars (including one of Don Prudhommes) repainted my Mariner Blue 1991 Miata (at around the 140k mile mark…it was a winter driven MN convertible). He used same Mariner Blue paint but mixed in two large handfuls of non metallic...

except, of course, when the Tesla is the spaceship 🙂. This is the last image of Musk’s Tesla that was transmitted back to earth as the car headed towards Mars. That launch was when I first started paying attention to Spacex and I guess Tesla (although I had earlier seen that storage hunter...

What's your best piece of Advice for a newbie?

I agree...had the dealer swap out the run flats on my BMW X5 with normal tires...not only loud but much more expensive and toast when you get what would normally be a repairable flat. Just carried a jack and a spare (it had the internal space for a full size tire in fact). Seems like they were...

I'll never be able to decide on a color

Actually I traded in the 2008 BMW X5 and sold my 1991 155k mile Miata and even my VW rail buggy to get the Tesla (got more for the Miata than the x5). The M3 is my wife’s car and she wouldn’t part with it…so far anyway. But I did keep the Tahoe as it has the best colors 🙂

I'll never be able to decide on a color

well, for our bmw m3 convertible, estoril blue is the only right choice. For the Tesla we went red/black…was a bit worried about black interior under Florida sun but turned out to be a non issue…car keeps temperature reasonable even when parked outside for hours in the sun. As you can tell our...

Jaguar xk8...biggest problem besides fuses blowing was false sensor errors that hid the blown fuses from diagnostics...that and every time the first response from Jaguar was that they wanted to replace the main $8,000 ecu each time. I eventually traded it in on a BMW X5. 4 water pumps later...

    Fuses tesla

Most failure modes I’ve seen with PPTCs are only after 1000s or much higher counts of resettable blows...implying something they are associated with are likely toast as well...and since they are typically at the location of what they are monitoring they usually would get replaced along with the...

Model 3 has no spare tire
