    Bodywork/Paint - Hampshire

I had paint flaking off my sills when my M3 was a similar age. Tesla Winchester had it repainted under warranty - I think (not 100% sure) that a nearby Honda workshop did the work. They did a great job and the paint has been perfect over the last two years. I had another paint job on my Range...

    Unlatching power difficulty...

Over the past couple of weeks I have really struggled to unlatch the power cord (at home) from my Model 3. I suspect, but don't know for sure, that it's because I am usually pre-warming the car and therefore there is power being used. This morning (-5 degrees) I spent ages trying to get the...

Have you lost faith in Tesla?

Lost faith? It's not a religion. It's a car and mine does what it says on the tin - like many other cars.

EV's to pay Road Tax from April 2025

It does throw up some interesting anomalies. My friend with a low emissions petrol Audi pays £30 a year in VED - my EV with zero emissions will pay 450% more. I assume the VED method of calculating duty on emissions will need to be overhauled.

He could have been watching - he (or she) had Sentry running. He should have tooted his horn in thanks! :)

    Leaving charge port open....

A Model 3 next to mine today in the underground car park chargers, was parked with it's charge port left open. I did the obvious thing, obviously (!), and unplugged mine and plugged him in. How was he able to leave his locked car with it's port open? Neat trick.

    Model3 with French motorway tag

I could be wrong, but the dotted or shaded part of the windscreen is free of the filaments for a heated screen. The tags don't work quite so well behind these filaments. As the Tesla doesn't have them, you can put the tag anywhere... however, high up and favouring the left hand side will work...

Here's how to charge with 32A commando in UK

I've used a 32 amp commando socket every day for over a year without an issue.

Thanks.... I am due a new set, will give them a go.

First bit of snow this morning...

My M3LR slips and slides on a modest slope that is grass covered - none of my other cars do. Is there a good 'intermediate' tyre (in the UK) that is recommended for Teslas?

    M3 Gone Wrong

It would be easy to lose faith in a Tesla being reliable if functions start failing one by one..... I really would not want to be stuck with a dead Tesla somewhere. Hopefully this can be resolved and Winchester can get you into a loaner. Maybe they even read these boards?
  13. N

    When will you upgrade?

I am 7 months in, rather than 3 years... but it's my intention to keep the car for 150,000 miles or more - which will be 10 - 15 years. The range is fine, performance is good, cabin is quiet enough and I can't imagine any features I'd be desperate for. If the Roadster ever appears, I would be...

    Model 3 Ground Clearance

I have a Morgan too (Aero +8 4.8) and also live up a similar track.... I have found a route through! The Tesla feels as low as the Morgan - which is very low.

Frustrating new customer experience - invoice payments

I bought my car in December and transferred the £50k to Tesla. I had no acknowledgement that the money had been received and was quite anxious for a few days.... from memory I emailed a helpful guy in the Winchester showroom and he confirmed that my car had been paid for.

    Bulb EV Tariff

As above, Economy 7, which is a radio signal. However this is about to be turned off - but I live in a very remote spot which has no 2G/3G/4G signal at all.... nothing. So a smart meter won't work. I am looking to move supplier but don't want to have to go through the rigmarole of having them...

Phone Key Issues - Won't unlock car [solved]

Happens to the best of us.... I wondered why my indicators didn't work when I first had the car. Wrong stalk! :) You will need the Tesla app on in the background (rather than swiped up and closed) - also having the phone in your other hand, rather than back pocket, pretty much guarantees...

Higher value EVs not eligible for £3,000 PiCG (grant) anymore!

Moderator comment - duplicate post moved from "EV Grant reduction" I didn't spot this anywhere else.... It is to be announced that the car grant for EV's will drop to £2,500 from today (March 18) and that the upper limit for eligible cars will be dropped to £35,000. This effectively means...

If I get a flat tire in UK what’s my options?

Good tip - have just ordered this. Thanks. I have other cars that have no spare, but I think the Tesla is a bit more problematic in terms of jacking up etc. So this kit makes sense.

Flaking paint on 2021 M3 LR

Like most of us on here, I have owned many cars and driven tens of thousands of miles. I am a bit surprised that my new (red) M3 has quite so many stone chips on it already in just 1,000 miles. I have never had a car have have so many chips so quickly before. I don't drive close to vehicles...

    Came Back to Tesla!

I have kept my V8 convertible 'fun' car for the summer - it's currently sitting in the garage awaiting the finer weather. It will be interesting to see how much I use it since buying my Tesla in December ... the Tesla is certainly an easy car to own, but it feels more like an appliance than a...

Tesla Wall Connector - Type B / Type A-EV RCD

My electrician is sure (it's sensitive to pulsating DC).... he rejected about 3 other RCD's that I had found online, but was happy with that one and fitted it. This subject is definitely above my pay grade as I don't fully understand it... I realised the regs have changed and my electrician...

    Personalised Reg

I am tempted - but none of the plates I own would suit the Tesla. I have V8, V12 and W12 all ending in WMD which have all been on appropriate cars. I was toying with AMP ... but actually it's quite nice to have an anonymous looking car and plate as most of my other cars have been a little more...

    Charge rate question...

Yep, this seems to be the case and my original question has been substantially answered - thanks everyone. I had only just had my 32 amp charger installed and, as nothing was happening, I posted the screen shot and was worried something was wrong. I am a few days in now and it's all working...

    Refusing/ Declining Delivery

It's highly likely that your new Tesla will be perfect. There's a small chance that you notice something that the service centre can easily fix for you.... My Tesla arrived on December 30th and looked as perfect as any of the Astons, Morgans or Bentleys I've owned. In fact, far better built...

    Is Tesla losing its USP?

The TM3 is unashamedly an EV - not trying to be something it's not. That, combined with the charging network is the reason I bought mine and I still think it's the EV that sets the benchmark for everyone else. If the Jag had the network? Maybe could have been tempted, but not interested in...

Pre conditioning for other charging networks....

Ha! Thanks... I only do spirited driving - that's why I'm asking. :) Thanks for the replies - I felt I must have overlooked something, so it's good to know I haven't. I can't see me using chargers outside of the Tesla network - but you never know.

Pre conditioning for other charging networks....

Moderator comment - thread renamed for clarity from "Using other charging networks...." Just curious - as I haven't seen an answer out there in web land. I have set up a couple of charging accounts/apps on a 'just-in-case' basis. Let's say I wanted to use a BP charger - how do you warm...
  32. N

    Charge rate question...

Ah, OK, thanks.... I didn't know they warmed up for home charging. On the 13 amp charger, when I first got the car, it didn't seem to - it always seemed to charge immediately. Perhaps when it senses 32 amps it need to get cozy first? :)
  33. N

    Charge rate question...

I quite often have this picture on my app - correct amperage showing, correct voltage - but zero miles per hour being added. Although the time to 80% charge seems roughly right - 48 miles to add. Is there something I'm not doing?
  34. N

    Charging question....

Very helpful indeed - thank you! I thought it would be nutty that the plug at the car end of the charger would be chucking out 32 amps day and night. I assumed it wasn't at there would have been a Frankenstein shower of sparks each time I connected - now I know! Many thanks.

Best EV Tarrif without smart meter

Another helpful post GG - thanks. I am with SSE - so I will wait until their pressure to have a smart meter becomes intolerable! :)

Best EV Tarrif without smart meter

I have an Economy 7 meter - but am told the radio signal that controls it is going to be turned off soon. I live in the middle of absolutely nowhere and there is no mobile signal at all... nothing, not even a faint whiff. A smart meter is never going to work. So I will be in the same boat as...

    Charging question....

Thanks for that - so the UMC connector is actually the switch? The car talks to that? That makes total sense, but I really wasn't sure. Thanks also Avendit - I don't know how to multi quote. :) My question is answered.

Tesla have updated m3 on website

I'm still on the free trial (new car) for Autopilot. I can't say I like it - it's not relaxing at all, I feel on edge with it on. Besides that, I enjoy driving, not being driven. Adaptive cruise control is great though and it's as far as I want to go. That aside, I can't help feeling Tesla...

    Charging question....

I know from many hours in recording studios, that you don't plug in and unplug 'live' instruments - you get a huge 'bZZZZZt' sound! I was curious about plugging and unplugging a 32amp 'live' cable into the car.
  40. N

    Charging question....

I know to many this will appear a dumb question - but I cannot find the answer and I am not an expert in such matters. When using the Tesla connector (the one that came with the car) - or any connector for that matter, I assume it's OK to leave it 'on' all the time? In other words - you...

    Brexit

People voted to win back the right to control our borders - not limit immigration, merely the right to maintain borders. This fact has been twisted by many to suggest that voters were xenophobic morons - which I don't believe to be the case.

    Brexit

History will show Brexit as merely an adjustment in trading conditions.... all forecasters predict the majority of future economic growth will come from outside the EU, not within. Free trade between economies with a similar GDP was (and remains) an obviously good idea. A federal Europe with...

Interesting comparison review on another forum - Model 3 SR+ vs Kona Premium SE

An interesting review.... the charger network was a big factor in me buying a Tesla. I'm a new owner and the review threw up a question for me.... what happens if you use a supercharger without preconditioning? Lower charge rate? Damage? As an aside, I am enjoying the Tesla 'dealer'...

    Ohme's new smart charging app

As a new owner, I am really not an expert in these things! But thanks for the pointer on the app - I am not an Ohme customer (SSE), but have downloaded the app and it is working fine with the (dumb) Tesla UMC charger. Because of the 'charging restrictions' setting which lets you limit the...

    Interior trim cleaning question

I didn't thoroughly check my M3 when I picked it up - it looked fine... it is fine. But I have noticed some grubby marks on the pillar trim where the seatbelt disappears. I don't want to try to clean this without a bit of advice from anyone who has successfully cleaned this. It looks the...

Quick pressure wash with tap water - any issues?
