I'll never be able to decide on a color

White cars get in 12% fewer accidents. Free color and 12% less chance of bodily injury or death. Gee, tough decision.

    Tesla for 80 year old?

I'll agree about having proper vision correction to drive, but the font on the screen is still too small, especially for critical info. If you're tall, it's even worse, as your seat will be back, increasing your distance to the screen. The alerts, at minimum, should be larger or text-to-voice.

    Tesla for 80 year old?

As an 80-year-old Tesla driver, I feel bound to speak up for my age group, the pre-WW II models. My wife and I love our car and don't find it at all intimidating. Of course, she spent her career in IT and I've always been an early tech adopter. Meanwhile. we know some people our age and even...

Tesla 3 charging door won't open

Actually, I did have a problem with a Supercharge when my charge port door wasn't working right. I was able to charge at home OK, but the Supercharger would not recognize that the port was open and ready for charging.

    FSD or Long Range?

Is the LR RWD or AWD? If AWD, go with that for significantly more power and likely less depreciation long-term. If it's RWD, it's a closer call, but the LR will also give you decent power, a little more range and better sound. I'm very happy with my 2018 LR RWD.

Sell Model 3 for new Model 3?

Your average annual cost of ownership will go down the longer you keep the 2018. Unless you like spending a lot to drive, getting a new car without much of an upgrade just gets you more rapid depreciation. Of course, I come at this as a longtime used car buyer. My last Lexus RX350, bought with...

Advice Wanted: Used Early VIN LR RWD vs New LR AWD

I have an early LR RWD and really love it, but that one sounds like it has too many questions. I got mine for just over $35K, with 45K miles and EAP. I don't mind high mileage cars. Warranty problems usually shake out in the first couple of years and, besides, Tesla warrantees the drive train...

    2018 Model 3 (no autopilot)

Unless the price on that car is very low, and you think you could live without the autopilot features, i think you might consider trying to find one with Enhanced Autopilot (EAP). It's not unusual to find a 2018 model selling with EAP for the same price or a little more than one without. EAP...

Used dealers DO NOT understand Teslas

I'm glad you got through to someone at Carvana about this. I spoke to them and apparently had the wrong person, who did not seem to care much. I was even pointing out a case where they were underpricing a car by a lot.
  13. CameraJim

Used dealers DO NOT understand Teslas

Maybe things will change once FSD is actually FSD, but those kbb estimates are valid, as that's what many dealers use. FSD seems, so far, to have been a questionable investment. The car keeps 75% of its value, but FSD keeps less than 20% of its value. Let's see what happens when the beta goes...

    Enhanced autopilot

I am, too, especially the subscription price to owners who have EAP. Based on current pricing, it should be half of the FSD subscription to add it to EAP.

    telephone

I wish it was a simple as a push on one of the scroll wheels to answer the phone. The controls are there. Why doesn't Tesla use them?
  16. CameraJim

    Inaccurate Navigation

One of the biggest failings is not providing route options, which I've had in every GPS system I've used over the last dozen years. Even Google maps suggests three optional routes. One way to get another option is to ignore the routing for a while and force a recalculation.

Wanting To Do A Test Drive

There's a small Buffalo Tesla Owners group on Facebook. Why not try hooking up with them for help and advice?
  19. CameraJim

Used dealers DO NOT understand Teslas

Considering the mileage, I'd guess those are demo models. The one without FSD looks like a good deal. You get it for about 15% off list price, and with 10,000 miles added to the warranty. But it looks like you have at least these examples on your side.
  20. CameraJim

Used dealers DO NOT understand Teslas

If that is the case, then Tesla is selling FSD very cheap on their used vehicles. In fact, if they include the FSD software, it's probably much more sensible to buy a recent used model from them than a new one.

Model 3 size - more like an Accord or more like a Civic?

You will not have a problem. I'm 6-2 and overweight and there is more than enough room to adjust the seat comfortably. I came from an Acura RDX. The Model 3 fits me better, especially for head room, due to the lack of a moonroof mechanism. Storage is just fine, with the trunk, sub-trunk and frunk.
  22. CameraJim

Used dealers DO NOT understand Teslas

That does not seem to be the case currently. If you check the Tesla used inventory for Model 3s, it lists almost every one as having "FSD Capability," but not actually FSD. I think all "capability" means is the car has necessary computer. When you think about it, Tesla would be foolish to not...

Used dealers DO NOT understand Teslas

Tesla only removes EAP and FSD if the car is resold through Tesla. It otherwise stays with the car, as mine did. But, you are right that dealers give it little value. This is so common that getting EAP or FSD on a used Tesla can be nearly free. Teslas have the best resale value on the market...

Used dealers DO NOT understand Teslas

They get quite a lot wrong. Here's a 2018 mid-range that's $15K cheaper, but seems to have FSD, which they never mention (check the navigation screen photo): https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/1632694

Used dealers DO NOT understand Teslas

When I bought my 2018 LR RWD a coiuple of months ago, the online dealer had listed it as an AWD. After delivery, I found it was RWD. I decided to keep it, since it also had EAP, and negotiated a rebate of part of the price. However, it showed me two things. One, the dealer had no clue how to...

    Blind Spot Monitoring

My wife complained about the lack of BSM, as we had in our last car, but she now loves autopilot and TACC. Yesterday, with her driving me to a doctor's appointment, she just got in the center lane and let the car do the rest. During the drive, some idiot on our right tried to merge into our...

If I sell Model 3 with EAP, can new owner buy FSD for $5K?

Just noticed your second question. No, you will not get $5k more for it at resale if you buy FSD. I've checked used Tesla prices and EAP and FSD have low residual value on resale. Maybe that will change if there is actually proven FSD and the public wants it. I essentially got EAP for free on my...

    Lifetime Premium Connectivity pre-July 2018

    Lifetime Premium Connectivity pre-July 2018

I think you are correct, but it is how Tesla defines the qualification on its support page. I posted an image of that above. Maybe there are a few standard range models which opted for premium interior and would thus qualify.

    Lifetime Premium Connectivity pre-July 2018

All of this, the issue with connectivity, whether or not FSD remains with the car or the driver (Tesla strips it from their own resales, so it remains with neither in those cases), or even whether something is a feature or a subscription, just shows how much Tesla is in charge of our vehicles...
  35. CameraJim

    Lifetime Premium Connectivity pre-July 2018

Yes, but is the connectivity attached to you or the car? At least in the U.S., many cars are maintaining connectivity for the original owner, but Tesla strips this when the car is resold. You might to check to see if you can tell your eventual buyer that the car comes with premium connectivity.

    Lifetime Premium Connectivity pre-July 2018

Even Tesla support does not fully understand that page about premium connectivity, but I've now talked to a lot of people in support and my understanding is as I've stated it. The people I'm trying to reach with this thread are those who have cars purchased before 6/30/18 and who bought them...

    Lifetime Premium Connectivity pre-July 2018

Yes, I purchased the car via Carvana. The previous owner bought the car in April 2018. When cars are sold through Tesla, premium connectivity is stripped. It is also stripped from cars sold via private sales after January 2020, EXCEPT for the small number of vehicles with premium interiors sold...

    Lifetime Premium Connectivity pre-July 2018

They have a funny interpretation of "lifetime." In your case, it applies to your lifetime with the car, not the lifetime of the car. Since your purchase was after 6/30/2018, it will not transfer to the next owner.

    Lifetime Premium Connectivity pre-July 2018

Right after my used 2018 M3 LR RWD was delivered on 1/2/21, I registered the car in the Tesla app. Almost immediately, I was informed I had a 1-month free trial of premium connectivity. However, the car had been described by the dealer as having "lifetime premium connectivity. Checking the...

The auto headlights have been working on my M3. In fact, they work better than I do, as I rarely remember to turn on my high beams on dark roads. New upgrade available - Enhanced Autopilot [same EAP as previously offered -- Europe only for now]

The resale value of EAP and FSD also seem to be bad. I recently bought my 2018 with EAP for about the same price as I would have paid for another one without it and with comparable mileage. I ran estimates on kbb.com and the difference in resale value of a 2019 with and without FSD differed by...

Tesla Model 3 vs. Honda Accord Hybrid

I bought it from Carvana. There are a couple of very minor chips, which they detailed in advance on their listing, with close-up photos.
