mysterious hvac behavior when parked. Car is hot but HVAC is "off"

So I parked at the airport for 4 days with 250 miles left in battery. when I got back there were 135 miles left. Sentry mode was on so big drain...I guess. But the strange thing is, outside temps were 40-50 degrees the whole time but the cabin temp was 80 deg F. when I returned! HVAC was...

    Buying Used model s

Personally, I would not need to know what the battery size is, just what the current rated range with a full charge is. The past usage pattern will determine how much of the capacity is still there.

Is all neural networks really a good idea?

I am in the camp that all-AI, all the time, is better than rules based. Consider Google Translate. Until a few years ago the main approach was rules of language based. More rules, better results, but it basically stunk. Then a separate team developed an AI approach with no rules, just feeding...

    Autosteer too scary for me

I have been driving my new Model S for a week. (replaces 2013 model S) HW4. There are two particular issues that make me unwilling to trust Autosteer. First, on highways, driving in right lane, passing an on or off-ramp. When there are no dotted lane lines separating the ramp from the road...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I picked up my my new MS Sunday in Brooklyn. Drove it right to my parking garage so have not done a real shakedown on it yet. It replaces my 2013 MS that gave me 10 years of faithful service. Some low-speed motor whine and rattles but battery still has virtually all of original rated range...

Has anyone sued Tesla over back-ordered parts and repair delays?

Late to this thread but misery loves company. No, to answer the question, since I was accommodated. In 2019 my 2013 Tesla was on a lift in my garage and the lift malfunctioned. Caused body damage. The garage paid for repair and a loaner so not on my insurance. Mercedes dealer was the...

    Model S winter range

You've gotten good answers already. I would just add that the route planners try to get you there quickest, which might include being almost empty when you arrive. If you spend more time at the charger (like it wants you do do for a round trip) to get full you'll be able to plug into a 110 at...

    ATT 3G Service Planned Shutdown

So I just heard about this in the newspaper. I see it's been discussed here and Tesla posted about it on their web site in July - if I search for it in support. This is just a rant but when, exactly is Tesla going to reach out proactively to owners to tell them this? There are thousands of...

Can’t turn off charger location display

Thanks, everyone. Making the pins smaller would help. Driving into NYC you see only pins and no roads.
  10. P

Can’t turn off charger location display

I can’t disable the map pins showing supercharger locations. The lightning bolt display toggle turns on/off non-super chargers and brings them up on a list in the right left side but the superchargers remain no matter what. You might call this a high class problem but in the New York metro...

Is model S safe to drive with dead MCU?

False alarm. The MCU did not die. The car was in deep sleep and while the drive electronics booted up after 3 or 4 minutes, the MCU remained dead for at least 10 minutes, when I got tired of waiting and left. Some time after that I saw the phone app re-established a connection with the car and...

Is model S safe to drive with dead MCU?

My 2013 model S has been garaged and plugged in for a month. It went into deep sleep (I assume) Upon my return I got the car to slowly boot up systems but the center console isn't coming on. The car will go into gear and out. The dashboard screen seems to be working properly (but nothing...

75 days still waiting for Tesla Part 1024197-S0-B Bodyside Panel Right

My model S has been at Mercedes of Manhattan for 6 weeks for a crunched rear quarter panel. Tesla will not give the repair shop any ETA on parts. I just left a message in my account at Tesla.com but this thread (and others) is pretty discouraging.

    Software Update 2018.32.2 3817fdd

The update (last weekend for me) seems to have fixed it. Drove for 90 minutes with no reboots. Previously, it was every 10-15 minutes on my 2013 P85+

    VisibleTesla

The link on that page got me a 404 error at dropbox the other day. Today I just get a spinner on the page. The "Download" button does download an archive of oldversions up to 0.28.

Is there anyplace to download visible tesla any more? My version is ancient 0.28. I started down the rabbit hole of building from sources and I'm getting a bit frustrated. Thanks.

Will economics of new Tesla PowerWall product will work for you?

With flat metering (as I have) it the powerwall doesn't make sense other than short term backup. With current off-peak electricity pricing it doesn't make sense either. Off-peak these days means lower pricing only at night. BUT, I suspect as grid-tied solar starts to create more of a headache...

Has anyone willingly returned to the ICE-age?

I will be moving from NJ to Manhattan. Figuring out the charging situation for my Tesla in a public garage seems daunting - a far cry from just rolling into my garage and plugging it in. I will probably buy another car (a used beater) and let the attendants have at it.

No Song Info in Folder Mode on USB

Well, thumb drives are not that heavy to carry, you know. Seriously, the pain is deciding/managing what to load on the limited drive. The way around that is to use a USB hard drive that has whatever capacity you need to hold your entire library and sync it only occasionally. The...

Google Maps not showing route during navigation

Cold Weather, long drive, good planning, good experience

Right. The binding constraint was getting enough charge for the return trip in the time I would be spending in meetings. I could have driven my normal 75-80 if I had been willing to hang out for an extra hour of charging before starting on the return journey.

Cold Weather, long drive, good planning, good experience

I made my first trip in the P85+ where I needed to charge at the destination before returning home. I traveled from Morristown, NJ to Albany, NY, a distance of about 150 miles. Temps were 19 deg going up and 40 degrees returning. Net elevation change was about zero but lots of hills on the...

    No LTE in 2014

I'm just speculating of course, but all the components of the computer will be upgraded in a new generation that includes a 4G radio. Why wouldn't they? So the dashboard form factor is probably the only thing that won't change. You'll have to swap out all the guts to get a 4G radio. Still...

    Tesla Supercharger Golden Spike

Yes, if you take the low road and go through Hagerstown (which also requires circumnavigating Baltimore). If you take the northern route past Harrisburg it's 238 miles (no material difference) If you leave the interstate and go through Lancaster it is 217 miles and less time (if you believe...

Irresponsible reporting "Tesla Recalling Model S..."

I like Glen's comment. If the fuse in the new adapter blows out you are not stuck. Use the old one as a spare and let the software downgrade the power draw if necessary.

Geting in and out of the darn thing...

It's true for tall folks the B pillar is too far forward when the seat is put all the way back. Someone else here mentioned they created a driver profile called "exit" that they summon when exiting the car that moves the seat up and forward to make egress easier. I did that. It makes a...

Model S as a ski car?

I got back to the train station last night to find the MS entombed in wet snow that had frozen hard. The temp. was 24 deg. F. Still, the door handles blasted out of their bays with a satisfying "crack!" as I approached. Super cool. Once I got home it took a few whacks with the palm of my hand...

We love the Lizard. Great beer selection and live music sometimes at the Westlake, OH location. More on topic though, go easy on the "clueless" officials, folks. If you have never gone to a town meeting in your town, you should. It's how democracy works at the micro level. These people...

Is the High Performance 85 kwh worth it?

I have the P85+ and love it but I don't have a reference of driving the other flavors. I was briefly disappointed that the mileage is a bit worse (5%?) with the 21" tires but I got over it. Even with the 21"ers the wheels do slip briefly when I punch it off the line on asphalt.

WSJ Opinion piece on NHTSA fairness (or lack thereof)

Here is the germane quote (fair use, I hope): GM pickups with side-mounted gas tanks in the 1980s were necessarily more fire-prone in side collisions, yet the truck's overall safety record was exemplary and the vehicle fully complied with federal fuel-system safety standards. That didn't stop...

Suntek paint protection film looks very different under polarized light

    Drive Differently in Model S?

My old Infinity FX had a tuned exhaust to get that macho feeling. Now with the MS I back out of the garage in total silence to start my drive. It is a mood changer. I learned last night that's not true. It was 37 deg. F. When I got into my car and within a minute of driving a "Battery is heating" notice popped up below the speedo. 2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid

Home turf advantage for the Panamera. That said, the interior of most top-end sedans are more sumptuous than the minimalist Tesla. Fair point. Likewise the driver assistance technology common in this price segment is mostly missing from the Tesla. That seems to matter more to the German...
