Not yet. I am convinced at this point that the noise is because of the mild feathering on my inner tires from excessive, albeit "within spec", positive toe on my rears (0.30 and 0.20). There definitely is excessive wear on the inner treads.
I'm planning on getting new tires soon so I'll let...
(Question at the bottom, thanks in advance for reading! )
Car is a 2021 Model 3 AWD, currently at 28.6k miles.
A few months ago I got my alignment checked (around 26.5k miles) as I noticed inner tire wear on all 4 tires with the rear left tire being showing more inner tire wear than the...
I have been experiencing a vibrational noise when driving 50+mph on smooth roads. Took my model 3 for a road force balancing, said there was only a 1/4 of an ounce that he had to add to one of the tires. This did not fix the vibrational noises. The tires have no feathering or abnormal wear, and...
I didn't think they were related as the noise issue has been going on for months without progressing or worsening, and the disgruntled tech's rough handling of the steering wheel that resulted in the loud thump was what was concerning me the most. This is especially since the steering wheel...
Good point lol. Long story but ive been experiencing a rumbling noise (still have a post about it if you wanna check it out). He was trying to show me slight inner tire wear that he exaggerated and insisted the car needed an alignment without actually checking the alignment. This was also why I...
Thank you for the advice.
My problem is that I can't find a reputable and honest shop anywhere near me here in the northeast. The shop that I went to was supposedly expert in servicing Teslas and had mostly 5-star reviews on Google, yet they caused the issue at hand and behaved...
My bad I should clarify that the alignment shop I took the car to was different than the first shop where the forceful steering wheel turning occurred. I took it to the alignment shop after to get the alignment checked as I was concerned about the new steering tilt that the other shop may have...
I appreciate your input. I'm just concerned because of the noise I heard (which may have been a rock, but sounded very loud), and the tilt, which was definitely not the way the steering wheel was before; I've confirmed that on the same roads I always drive on.
The guy was in a hurry and was...
Thanks for your response.
Even if they turned it with too much force?
From prior experience, I dont really trust Tesla’s service in diagnosing or fixing issues.
How many km did you put before first noticing the rumbling? If you noticed it right after taking delivery then it makes sense for the type of tires to be causing it. But if it was later, then either the tires may be unbalanced (unusual at 3k km unless if you've hit a pothole or drove over a...
He had finished lubricating my brakes - in case that was relevant - and parked the car outside. Before I left his shop, he wanted to show me the wear pattern on my tires, so he cranked the steering wheel all the way to the left. There was a very loud and discernible thump/snap that occurred as...
your problem sounds very similar to mine (model 3 long range ‘21). I hear the vibration more than I can feel it, and its most noticeable on smooth roads. Start to notice at speeds of around 50mph but gets louder at higher speeds. Ive balanced the wheels and made sure alignment is okay. I do have...
I think I finally understand what's happening here. As you said, the positive toe (i.e. toe in) for the rear tires is on the upper side of the specifications, which explains why the first 2 photos in my post above (especially the first photo) show the most amount of inner wear. (These first 2...
Out of curiosity, would you be able to circle on of these pictures where the feathering is. I researched the term online and honestly it's pretty confusing!
thanks so much, that all makes sense.
My bad, should've noted that the tires were rotated just prior to the alignment check and to those photos. So the rear tires you see were the front for the last 10k miles and are more in line with the front part of the alignment if that makes sense.
As...
Ok thanks for pointing that out. Ive read online that a faulty suspension could be another cause of feathering. Do you know of any other potential causes?
I did the alignment check about 2 weeks ago.
As regards to the noise, I can actually hear it more than I can feel it. I can definitely feel it through the steering wheel, but it's quite mild. The noise is relatively loud.
Did the balancing on the same day, and only a quarter of ounce was...
oh yeah wheel bearings are okay, forgot to mention!
i should add that the rumbling noise is only noticeable from 45-50 mph onwards, so at relatively higher speeds. It’s also practically unnoticeable on roads that aren’t smooth.
A while back I noticed my Model 3 producing a rumbling noise on smoother roads, especially newly paved ones. Here’s a video I took on a newly paved road:
The wheels are well balanced and an alignment check showed no issues. The suspension on the wheels looks okay according to the mechanic I...
Hi there,
I've looked at the forums here and it seems the closest place being recommended is near Philly. I've been having an issue with my Model 3 that 2 separate Tesla SC's failed to diagnose or even put an effort into diagnosing, and after being $300 lighter with no real solution, I don't...
Damn, yea my gut feeling has been telling me theyd mess something up if they replace it. Best case scenario they’ll probably leave a few scratches behind (hell, both of my stalks had long scratches when i took delivery of the car)
I'm sort of stuck and not sure what to do..
Basically, my turn signal stalk is now clicky after I took it to a highly rated body shop for PPF. I suspect they must have pushed it down too hard and broke something inside.
It's like a stuck joint that eases the more you move it, but then when...
Haha, except the nearest SC is 3 hours away and the soonest I can take it there is in like a month. So just trying to genuinely gauge whether i should risk driving for a month or take some time off inconveniently and go asap.
I recently hit the curb with the side of my right wheel while backing up at 2-3mph and didnt think much of it until i came across some articles saying how much hidden damage hitting the curb can cause, so I’ve become paranoid. After reading these articles I noticed that my steering wheel can...
