    Waymo

I think it's more difficult than we'd imagine. What's the difference between this guy and a construction worker holding a slow/stop sign? To us, an easy distinction based on many cues. To a self driving car? We can only speculate. Additionally you run into the "Chucks Left Turn" problem that...

    Waymo

Quoting myself to call myself out. Since posting I remembered they have testing in AZ as well (I always forget about Phoenix/Chandler), though the article doesn't list where the incident occurred. Anyone have more detail about this incident?

    Waymo

Saw a little hint to look through Waymo's accident reports so far this year. Many of the same old with them getting rear ended, but a few stood out. Waymo drives into a gate. https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/file/waymo_02052024-pdf/ Waymo hits a parked car...

    Waymo

Another interesting thing from today. Stop signs printed on T-shirts are an attack vector for Waymo vehicles (not that I'm surprised, this is one of those "how the hell do you handle this" scenarios). Also gives me a fun experiment to try on FSD (not a printed stop sign shirt though)...

    Waymo

Even in your scenario the Waymo got itself into the situation, it shouldn't have even been possible for it to be close enough to "rear end" them if it was being safe. Also what happened to defensive driving? "Someone's going slow, better illegally pass them" isn't defensive or safe. I doubt it...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I find this interesting tbh. I use a solution that's not a normal USB drive in my car (TeslaUSB) and recently it started getting iffy, sometimes leaving only the event.json and the thumbnail file for events but not the video. Everyone assumed they changed something, and now with this I wonder...

    Autonomous Car Progress

I wonder how often it "updates" the LLM portion. It maintained "Keeping a steady speed, the road is clear" even when a pedestrian was running across the road around 7:10 (and continued accelerating).
  8. F

Why am I seeing ads from other auto makers that encourage no monitoring of vehicle while driving?

Slight correction, it's not "be under 40mph if moderate or heavy traffic" it's "be under 40mph." IMO the biggest problem with the commercial is them showing the car driving on a dinky little 2 lane highway, when all of their coverage right now iirc is large freeways. ETA: Also this made me...

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

This guy always says stuff like this, he's a constant "snarky" troll. Just look at his post and then his post history. That's the reason for the snark. I added the thumbs down comment after he had already done it. On top of that, literally read his post. He's trying to claim a subject field...

    Autonomous Car Progress

No speed listed for the crash, only speed limits of the roads (highway and the side road). More recent image from Bing's "Bird's Eye" view shows the construction and lack of lights. Yeah, from the image above it looks like they've removed those street lights while construction is ongoing.
  14. F

    Autonomous Car Progress

This info is coming from another forum (including the picture above) but someone mentioned the stretch of road where it happened is "super dark" and has no shoulder. Apparently (though I can't confirm this from the limited accident report I had access to) the CRV lost it's alternator, as in it...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Thanks, wasn't sure if you brought it up in a "Ford is using this" scenario (as I can't find ANY tech details about bluecruise reliably) or a "this could be a future improvement" scenario. I'll withhold judgement for the tech until I see it. Also I can't 100% confirm this, but it seems like...

  17. F

    Autonomous Car Progress

Yeah, I just assumed others would be using better radar systems after Tesla's bouquet of oopsie daisies and the outrage associated with them removing radar. I just can't find much info on their system as every ford dealer pops up with their marketing page about blue cruise rather than a lot of...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Radar can 100% detect stationary objects. It's used as a tool for mapping underground pipes for example. Green even said Tesla's radars can detect stationary objects, they just filter them out (or have bugs attributing them) and gave an example video.

    Autonomous Car Progress

Digging in to the crash. It was a Blue 2022 Mustang Mach-E (VIN 3FMTK3R77NMA43887). The crash report lists the following (and a lot more, I just trimmed it down). "Autonomous Level Engaged: 2 - PARTIAL AUTOMATION." "Contributing Factor 1: 20 - DRIVER INATTENTION" "Vehicle Damage Rating 1 -...

    Waymo

That kinda feels like "Yeah FSDb was active, but we dumped them out (5,10,30s) before the collision so we're not responsible" hand wavey imo (and yeah blah blah FSD is level 2 and only an ADAS, was just a comparison for the logic). Like you said, we don't actually know the scenario, I could...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm wondering if the SUV on the right had anything to do with it. Not "by an insurance definition this vehicle caused it", but "this was a parameter that tripped up FSDb" caused it. To me looks like the SUV is hugging the left line in their turn on the visuals, so I wonder if that "made" (it...

    Supercharger - Branson, MO (speculation)

Hopefully it's a similar timeline to the recent Conway AR supercharger install and they'll have it up and running before late spring/summer really gets in to swing. Will make those random Branson (well, really SDC) trips so much easier.

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

They managed to find one without the giant penis that's normally on the homunculus models lol. That being said, I wonder what it would be in this case? Elon?
  25. F

    Waymo

I assume it would be like how the DOT already works...a work order system. Since I doubt traffic engineers decide to, at arbitrary times, go to each light and just throw a random number in for the light. They send the data to Waymo like "light changed today, updated to Xs". Then Waymo could go...
  26. F

    Waymo

I mean, can't that exact same statement be applied to Waymo collecting this data? Scenario: Light has been timed at a 5 second yellow by Waymo. Light is changed to be a 2 second yellow by DOT. Waymo has no knowledge of this, and therefore it's not "always correct". A Waymo predicts the...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

A great example for others of what this may look like, that I'm sure we're all well aware of is phantom breaking. But that's not FSDb. In that scenario the car (either through sensor data or visuals) "believes" (hallucinating) there is an imminent threat unless it slows down.
  28. F

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Interesting. Looking at the visual you see the pedestrian "strobing" in and out, so the car was failing to detect the pedestrian very well (for v11 stack that runs visuals?). So for end to end, you actually can debug them to figure out the "why" in what's going on using some recent tech...
  29. F

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I guess one of the very basic questions I'll ask since it's still up for debate... Has the guy even posted a picture of v12 installed on his car as proof? Checking his twitter that's not where the video originally came from, and he hasn't posted a picture of V12 at all. Or even talked about it...

    Autonomous Car Progress

I'm...kinda confused why they have "actions (steering wheel, accelerator, breaks...)" being an input and only a text response. This feels like they're prodding an LLM to try and explain the action of another network that's it's disconnected from? Is that the goal?
  31. F

    Autonomous Car Progress

Checking for Arkansas, lots of our little ole 2 lane highways are covered, with sections missing where it's more windy / recent construction.

Tesla employee killed in crash involving FSD?

I'm disagreeing with this part specifically. Because that's not how physics work. Cars, by the very nature of physics want to go straight (if properly aligned). They won't randomly start swerving like you imply. My guess, from the police report graphic: He was using AP, it nagged him, he...

Tesla employee killed in crash involving FSD?

Yeah, that's NoA. FSD Beta at the time (even on freeway) = New "FSD" visuals + Blue Tentacle NoA = Old "FSD/AP" visuals + blue tentacle AP = Old "FSD/AP" visuals + lane lines
  34. F

    Waymo

I don't understand why you're ignoring subsection b. The bike in that case, would have fulfilled A, as everything was done and it was their turn to go. For some reason you think running a stop sign wouldn't be a violation of A? I don't really get your argument. Bike would have ROW, Waymo...
  35. F

    Waymo

Not in that scenario according to the law. In that scenario, the Waymo would be found at fault as they had the duty to give ROW to the bike and give ROW to the bike until it was able to proceed "with reasonable safety." Which by nature of an accident occurring wouldn't have been safe, though...
  36. F

    Waymo

This is all speculative on my part, but to me followed could mean what you're saying i.e. the bike followed the direction of the truck or it could mean followed "in sequence" i.e. the bike went after the truck at the stop sign, but not in the same direction. The behind part here being literal...
  37. F

    Waymo

So do we actually know the scenario anything beyond this? The way it reads I can see at least 2 scenarios. Scenario 1: The cyclist was directly behind the truck and turned into the path of the Waymo vehicle out of turn. Scenario 2: The truck was going straight across the intersection, and the...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Double post, but wanted to follow up on this after learning a bit more. It seems like Hesai is mostly in L4 platforms, with L2 having other suppliers. So this may not impact consumer vehicles much, if at all. Highlighted the L4 companies and removed speculation from the quote. Also of note that...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Wonder how Hesai being added to the U.S. "Chinese Military Companies" list will impact this for the US. IIRC they are one of the cheapest LiDAR suppliers and in both Cruise and Waymo vehicles.

    Supercharger - Conway, AR

They've been there every day this week so far iirc, so movement. This morning they had the covers off the supercharger pedestals. Something else I noticed Monday, looked like they had a whole new cabinet sitting in the bed of a truck.

Double post, but Conway Corp was out again this morning as well as another work truck. Couldn't read the side fully but looked like "something permitting LLC". Hopefully a sign today is final inspection or something.
  42. F

    Waymo

Glad to see you agree with my first conclusion. --- I think it's debatable. Waymo already handles parking lots and those are technically all private roads but not really thought of as the same way. I'm assuming eventually it will be some sort of authorization thing in the TOS where if you...

    Supercharger - Conway, AR

Oh yeah, I'm ecstatic about a Branson SC. I just like the idea of Leslie as it's a great half way stopping point between Branson and LR (and where we always stop on the way up/down).

    Waymo

Because the claim was the car can determine it's own drivable space on the fly? If the car can determine drivable space on the fly, and the driveway is (1) attached to the road and (2) made of the same material as a road...then the car could detect the drivable space in a driveway and continue...

    Supercharger - Conway, AR

Not sure if they post on here, but someone has been doing daily updates in the AR owners club FB group. Who knew Conway was this important. (Though I still wish there was a SC in like...Leslie for the 65 drive).
  46. F

    Waymo

I honestly think we're talking past each other. I am not claiming Waymo can't change the maps for roads. I am saying that Waymo pre-maps areas, and defines private driveway areas based on those pre-defined maps, and the car can't change the pre-defined status of a part of road (i.e. it won't...
  47. F

    Waymo

I'm confused how you claim the drivable space isn't pre-defined? Waymo themselves claim it is.[0] If they don't map private driveways as roads, then the car explicitly won't go on to them because it won't think of it as a road (even if it means only going on them by inches). They call out...

    Waymo

Apologies for the double post, can't edit the previous one anymore but I wanted to add: My whole reason for starting this dialogue was because I'm tired of any negative discussion around Waymo, Cruise, Comma AI, Et al. being instantly shut down in this or other threads. Instead of discussing...

    Waymo

I didn't know saying "I'm not dismissing anything" followed by "why aren't we talking about how safe they are" is "pointing out the truth that Waymo and Cruise were working to address those issues." But I guess maybe we're using different versions of English? So apparently a simple "don't...
