    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

Don't get me wrong--there are many much better approaches like the side mirror warning icon lights (and I honestly still just use blindspot mirrors on my cars). But I wouldn't expect Franz' and Elon's egos to let such smart, tried and true designs get past them. I was just trying to think of a...

    Game Controller Support

Do you have a link to the documentation where they say they don't support BLE (Or is it in the manual)? The Xbox guys said they would "be shocked if Tesla didn't support BLE", but that would explain these issues. I'd love to forward the documentation over to them to let them know-

Wireless phone charger pad started acting finicky

Was it a new development for you? You bring up a good point I didn't mention: taking the cover off seems to address the issue. I guess I could go around without using a phone cover, but it would be nice to get the car working properly if possible (especially since the right pad doesn't care...

Wireless phone charger pad started acting finicky

Couldn't find much on the forums here about this, so maybe it's just my car...but in the last couple weeks, after I place my phone on the left front charging pad of the car, it will continually stop/start charging (i.e., the phone screen wakes up to say it's starting to charge, and then it...

How long did it take you to get used to the stalk-less turn signals?

I realized it took me a year to be able to use the blinkers without looking down--at least in normal conditions (i.e., a non-turned wheel). I still have to find them on turned wheels and then think about which one to use when the steering wheel is upside down. Still have to think about the...

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

As much as I dislike the capacitance steering wheel buttons for turn signals, they seem to be doubling down on them with the 3 and Y now, too. I was thinking that they could actually make them more useful than stalks in one way: Idea: When the system detects your finger hovering over/touching...

    Game Controller Support

Hey all. I asked some of the hardware guys at Xbox why their gamepads didn't seem to work in Teslas...They tried testing some gamepads out and confirmed that they saw late model Xbox gamepads working fine over USB connections but not pairing via BT. They did, however, note that older (Xbox...

Annual license plate renewal fees - how much in your state?

I guess it was....RTA for us is now 1.1%. Was hoping they used the new, lower Model S prices. :) :(

Annual license plate renewal fees - how much in your state?

Unincorporated King County (near Seattle), Washington. Just got my fee for my first renewal of my 2022 Model S Plaid. $1,681.25. RTA Excise Tax portion is $1,358.00. Does that sound right to people? Apparently I'm used to older or one-off ICE car renewal fee levels, not new EV renewal fees.

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

Looks like a third wheel option is coming out since they found that even the yoke was obstructing the view of the dash during turns:

    New Tesla designs spotted

It looks like Elon took a break from Twitter, came back to check on Tesla, and wasn't too happy they released a round wheel for the S/X...so apparently he's doubling down with some new designs...

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

I actually just ordered the wheel, and supposedly I'm set up for an early 4/4 morning installation. Not holding my breath, especially since the local parts guy just told me today that they were backed up. I'm curious if I should change back to the yoke before the appointment...

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

Interesting....sounds like the firmware update isn't being performed the same between all the service centers then? Since apparently others haven't had all their visuals changed over. Might be a good post-conversion check for people to make sure their service center switches everything over...
  14. M

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

Thanks for the info--Interesting that the firmware changes the autopilot image but not the HVAC visuals, etc. Would have guessed all of that would have been behind the same logic switch.
  15. M

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

So even if they let you keep the yoke, if they don't let you keep the airbag, you wouldn't really be able to revert it to original spec. I wonder if letting the customer keep the airbag varies per center? Maybe they're getting some money out of keeping them (I don't think airbags are cheap)...
  16. M

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

I remember somebody finding this setting a long time ago, and I would have assumed it would be used exactly for doing this (swapping yoke/wheel text and images in the UI, etc.): Haven't heard anything about it for a long time though...
  17. M

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

When you get messages on your dash, does it say "yoke" (like when engaging autopilot and it tells you to keep your hands on the "yoke", etc.)? Do the climate controls visualizations show a yoke or a wheel? Just curious
  18. M

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

When I felt the new wheel at the Tesla lot, it felt a bit more "rubbery" than the material on the yoke (which to me feels kinda grainy). It didn't seem like it would wear as poorly as the yoke material, but that's just a hunch (and hope?). How was the S3XY button install? Did you do a writeup...
  19. M

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

Enjoy! When you say that you got to "keep the yoke", do you mean the shell, the shell with the electronics (but no airbag), or the entire yoke, airbag and all? Looks like they really are selling out...
  20. M

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

They also use the “yoke” string instead of “wheel” in a lot of the message text. Again, I think pretty minor things, but it would be nice to switch if the ability was already there.
  21. M

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

Interesting...those won't even change if you change the wheel sizing in the car's settings? I just thought I remember somebody finding a "secret" settings modal that allowed people to choose between a yoke and steering wheel setting, so I thought that might be what is used to swap visuals.

Anti-EV comments heard on my roadtrip so far

But a diesel that: gets in the left turn lane to go straight goes through a red light, and changes lanes in the middle of an intersection... ...just might be. (got my first coal rolling this week!) https://fb.watch/jm8o7Bx7CO/
  23. M

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

My local Tesla center didn't really have any answers regarding the new wheel; they didn't know what (if anything) you got to keep, if they could just change my car to think it has a wheel, or what the delivery schedule might be. They hadn't installed it in any cars yet, either. I also looked...

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

I’m probably gonna go in and see if I can get them to switch my computer over to thinking the car has a wheel on it (i.e., so it says and shows a ‘wheel’ instead of ‘yoke’). Not a big deal, but I’m assuming they should know how now that they offer the ability to swap parts? I’ll also ask...

Liftgate adjustment DIY info on 2023 refresh

Wish there was a sad face response option. Sorry to hear about the Tesla service; letting the customer service experience decline just because they're selling well now is definitely not a good long-term strategy for them...nor a way to foster brand loyalty.

Model S/X Round Steering Wheel & Retrofit

I remember being able to see the front screen fine; the center screen could still be clipped like it was with the yoke. ***But full disclosure--I've never had an issue with being able to see the screen through wheels in any high-volume, production cars. It might just be that I just...

Liftgate adjustment DIY info on 2023 refresh

Well done! How's your front trunk hood alignment? Mine is touching the passenger side headlight, and it looks like they spent a lot of time trying to fix it at the factory (judging by the chipped paint around the hinges and bump stops)...was looking for anybody who might have adjusted that...

New S/X sunroof- 5x more light in

Me neither, to be honest...for a while I thought I was the only Tesla with no custom plates or tinted windows. Figured I was trying to be unique around here.

Model S/X Round Steering Wheel & Retrofit

Just saw this thread. I tried out the new wheel in person today. While I've already moved to an aftermarket wheel, I was curious if spending another $700 was worth it to go back to OEM. Notes: Horn is still the same (moving it to the center pad would have alone won me over to purchasing...

Who's getting the normal steering wheel?

How about a "No, I already changed to a different wheel" option? :) I stopped by and checked out the new S/X wheel to see what it was like. I had some questions that I was curious about: Does the entire wheel heat up (my aftermarket just does the non-carbon fiber parts on the sides)? It...

New S/X sunroof- 5x more light in

I always thought the glass roofs on the P100D and Plaid I've driven were too dark to really enjoy as a glass roof, so this sounds kinda cool. That said....don't most Tesla owners just tint their windows anyway? Wonder how many will get this clearer roof tinted. Also curious about the actual...

List of Available Wheel Replacements for Yoke

I'm curious to see if the Tesla wheel heats the entire rim (do the 3/Y heat the entire wheel?), and if it's the same width and thickness as the Model 3/Y's wheels (I personally liked the dimensions of those wheels).

Further discussion and analysis on why the yoke is not good

List of Available Wheel Replacements for Yoke

FYI, this is hot off the press, so you might want to also put this on your radar: https://shop.tesla.com/product/model-s_x-steering-wheel-retrofit?web=true That said, I'm enjoying the Hansshow wheel. I've especially enjoyed the retained heating capability recently (even though it just heats...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

Unfortunately, the description seems to imply that the buttons are still the interface: I'm hoping the capacitance buttons might be next on the chopping block?

Further discussion and analysis on why the yoke is not good

Wow....even Elon and Franz finally caved and saw the light (or at least need more car sales and wheel sales). So much for steering wheels being the next tiller: https://shop.tesla.com/product/model-s_x-steering-wheel-retrofit?web=true I wonder which one put them over the top? :D...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

$5000, fully installed (or at least good directions on how to), ideally with both stalks fully functional. And maybe the suspension lifting you had working with the thumb wheel thrown in ;)
  39. M

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

I don't think s3xy buttons by themselves would be a good fix--I was thinking that somebody could make a stalk device that could use the same logic as the buttons to mimic and enable traditional stalk-operated signals... ...though after a while I realized that even that wouldn't be a great fix...

2022 refresh swivel screen rattling housing.

I put some looped up electrical tape on the inside of the center screen's pivot shroud to hold it in place, and the rattle is all gone now. I'm actually used to seeking out and fixing rattles on my glorified kit-car, so it's not that big a deal doing it on the Tesla....just a little unexpected...

    Your car rattles? Too bad…

I'm actually used to seeking out and fixing rattles on my glorified kit-car, so it's not that big a deal doing it on the Tesla....just a little unexpected for a current day, mass-produced car. :) That said, I used some looped up electrical tape on the inside of the center screen's pivot shroud...

    Your car rattles? Too bad…

@PatriotOne - after some more searching, I found this post, which I think might be my rattle: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/2022-refresh-swivel-screen-rattling-housing.272599/#post-6877574 Not coming from the console, but the shroud behind the pivoting screen. 2022 refresh swivel screen rattling housing.

A rattle started getting worse on my car recently--it really sounded like it was from the back of the phone charging area. I was going to open it up and see what the issue was, but thought I'd browse the forums here first to look for any mentions/fixes for this (since you guys had a solution...

    Your car rattles? Too bad…

I was just searching for a mention/fix for the center console rattle on a Plaid--does yours sound like it's coming from the phone charging area? Personally I wouldn't expect Tesla to fix this (I mean, I would expect a car company with decent customer service to fix it--especially on vehicles in...

Anyone done this to your Model 3??

Met this gentleman at a car show last week. I’d be surprised if he wasn’t on these forums? I think his car show poster claimed nothing he’s done affects the car’s warranty. He also had sounds hooked up to the can bus with resonators, I believe like the Dodge’s Banshee powered EV concept. I...

Weird buzzing sound after updating to 2022.24.6 [Fixed in 2022.36.1]

Just to be clear, this kinda sounds like a distant "door ajar" sound? Like a constant tone coming from the car? If so, mine has it too (started a few days ago). Noisiest car in my garage :D

    I don't care about non-EVs anymore

Yeah--though I don't really feel like a race car driver--I honestly drive like a grandma most of the time. I just enjoy having an interactive driving session--and one where the better I interact, the more fun the drive is. I think I'm also addicted to small, lightweight cars--once they start...

    I don't care about non-EVs anymore

I've learned it's hard to explain to be honest. If I describe it logically, it sounds the opposite of what you'd expect, and makes me sound like a masochist at worst. :) One comparison might work (I write video games on my free time, so this at least worked in my head)...Imagine you have two...
