Highland Front Styling, Better or Worse?

The Highland looks better all around. It's a great exterior update. The rear is the strongest angle. The only downside is no foglights. But, that's no surprise. More importantly, the Highland feels more solid.

Used MY buying advice - undercarriage condition

looks like he bottomed out on a speedbump or driveway. Pretty normal looking for the underbelly of a car. Nothing looks distorted but the battery is crucial so if costs you a $100 for Tesla to unscrew the belly pans and take a look, it would be good peace of mind.

Water entering into Passenger footwell from under glovebox, with fix

Nice fix! Tesla's fix looks like silicone tape? In any case, silicone tape would be ideal since it is waterproof and won't dry and split like duct tape or the like. thanks for the detailed pics and explaination. I like your diverter as well!

You need to read what you wrote. You're countering your own arguments. I responded to your comments accurately. Resorting to name calling isn't the best way to argue a point.

pennies. a couple micro-switches and updated clockspring. A pc mouse is more expensive. and software is always the preferred choice. Zero sku's added, software updated, no parts, no inventory, no vendors, streamlined assembly.

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

The retail price of a basic vw two stalk assembly is aroung $350 Not including inventory, assembly line steps, added sku's which add much more $ per unit to Tesla. Even at your theoretical $100/car, you just saved Tesla $52.3M in 2023 on the M3. Even at $25/car, that's $13.2M. Not including all...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

There is no valid argument that no stalks/touchscreen prndl is in any way better than stalks for the end consumer and drivability. It just isn't. The fact they need redundant PRNDL buttons on the ceiling just proves how sub-optimal this is. There are many good reasons for Tesla to remove...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

We have hit the height of comedy when there are aftermarket turn signals and gear select levers to make up for Tesla's cheapness. There are many upgrades to the 3 that should have been done a long time ago. It's good, but to look at switchgear as a way to massively reduce cost and eliminate...

Trump will end Biden's EV (tax credit) policies

No, what I said was "It's not a party line issue. States that benefit from these subsidys like W. Virgina, Texas." The "oil subsidies" have always been oil, coal, natural gas industries.
  13. E

Trump will end Biden's EV (tax credit) policies

Coal is a fossil fuel. The coal industry enjoys all the tax subsidies and tax evasions as the rest of the oil, coal and natural gas industry. Besides coal, W. Va also is the fourth largest natural gas producer. It's more on the order of $15-20B annually in costs to the taxpayer (the specific...

Trump will end Biden's EV (tax credit) policies

This is descending into deep politics because the oil industry welfare (yes, that's what it is) is a tax code zombie from 1913 when drilling was highly risky. Those subsidys kept alive all this time, and once on the teet of federal welfare, they will never give it up no matter how many 100s of...

Trump will end Biden's EV (tax credit) policies

@Rocket_man that is a very interesting last post. I don't know if I agree with all of it but that perspective has never been so clearly presented before that i've read.

Trump will end Biden's EV (tax credit) policies

I'll quote a Kia ev owner I saved his comment, he said it better than I: (this was dec 2023) "Except most headlines don't actually say the "growth rate" is slowing (I don't think anyone believed EVs were going to be able to sustain a 70%+ growth rate), they mostly seem to say "EV demand is...

Trump will end Biden's EV (tax credit) policies

There's a lot of anti-EV on the internet. It does not track with reality. Actual sales and trending numbers show EV growth continues and all legit forecasts show the growth is global.

Model Y Reverse UFO Sound Change/Disable

There are some annoying and loud noise emitters. Hyundai/Kia, Porsche, BMW, Toyota, Lexus... They are all loud to me if you're standing next to it in a parking lot or backing up at home. Otherwise, I never notice. And that's perfectly acceptable and as it should be, imo.

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

Auto transmissions are reliable, and efficient. They can go the life of the vehicle with proper maintenance, like everything else. Auto trans do cause hp losses and are heavy. Still, the tradeoff is more than worth it as there are almost no manuals made anymore. This thread has turned into...

FSD 12.3.3 first drive - safe, super boring

12.3.3 trying for the first time bc of the free update. can't use it on my neighborhood roads. They are narrow and some are without road markings. There are also intersections that are not 90° so cameras cannot see oncoming cars. On well marked roads, fsd hugs the centerline a bit too close...

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

yeah taking two spaces isn't going to fly when you hit a crowded charging station. you'll be waiting a long time for two side by side...and I foresee a lot of youtube videos of fights... the extension cable would be great, that would solve any complaint I would have.

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

If there is some impending European curbside charging network coming, maybe it's a good gamble. The vast majority of ev charging in the US is at home, where it really doesn't matter what side the plug is on. However, it does put a wrinkle in travel and the ease of using NACS. I guess someone...

    Model Y Competition: Rivian R2 Price & Specs Leaked! -- $47500, 0-60 3 Sec, 330 Miles Range

More interested in the R3, because we already have a Y. If not, would definitely take a R2 over the Y. Only weird thing is Rivian put the charging ports on the wrong side. NACS but wrong side...don't get it.

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

In my area of socal, it is very common and regular occurance that people do not and will not signal lane changes or making left, right or any turn. The expectation is that others somehow magically know what they thinking. I have a few four way stops on my usual commute and people regularly...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

Tesla's cost cutting marketed as a consumer benefit works sometimes. The single center display for example. The stalks are a smart cost cutting move. One of the most expensive assemblies still remaining on the interior are the stalks. But it sucks. Simple parallel parking and signaling are a...

Phone key doesn’t work unless phone is unlocked

WIth the last couple Tesla updates, my phone connection has been great. The only time I have a delay is when the car has been on the charger all night, I go to unplug in the morning and no response for a good 10 sec. Then the Tesla "wakes up" and unlocks the charger. I really think it's the...

New Model Y interior smells like chemicals/coolant/paint when parked for awhile

Strange. The only fluid would be the coolant. Is the windshield washer resi full or do you use it often? That gives off a alcohol smell that can get inside when spraying the glass. We had no smells, just the usual new car smell and it was pretty mild. *just read it is a demo car. It's likely...

    2023 Holiday Update

Can you try the update through your app? I like this new update. The grey clay 3d parking world is strange but ok. The red shading for blind spot warning is a nice update. My auto wipers seem to be working better.

2023.44.30.2 parking display is a grey clay world

This new update is wild. The parking sensor is now a 3d clay looking world. Not sure what to think of it though it does try to show in full detail the surrounding objects. I like the Red shading on the display for blind spot warning. Overall, interesting update.

    Pricing Revealed

I know future Rivian products will cost cut and streamline production. I honestly don't know how they made the R1T and S at this level of manufacturing quality and detail for the pricepoint. It really speaks to the company truly wanting to put out the best product and overshooting, where the...

    Pricing Revealed

nearly all of Rivian orders are for the R1S. Compared to it's $78k base, it is comparably priced to ice suv's like the Jeep Wagoneer, GMC Yukon, Lincoln Aviator, QX60, BMWX5, Merc GLE, Audi Q7... And I would take the R1S over all of them in a heartbeat. R1T is not some pretender. It's the real...

    Pricing Revealed

I saw a couple impression videos like MKBHD's of the cybertruck. I was impressed with what I saw. However, even if I wanted it, there are over 1M ahead of me and 4-5 yrs to meet all those pre-orders. Don't understand all the drama about price. If you preordered and don't want the product...

In the future when my battery needs replacement, will they use the new tech?

The first Prius battery option I looked up cost $1500, 3 yr unlimited mileage warranty, 30 day free return and DIY, mobile service and shop options (which of course, add labor costs). I'll take that for a 14 yr old vehicle, and a sunday afternoon, I'll happily take those odds.

  41. E

In the future when my battery needs replacement, will they use the new tech?

agree, it will (just as with ICE vehicles) decade or two down the road but the interest is there and with literally millions of Teslas on the road, it only makes sense.
  42. E

In the future when my battery needs replacement, will they use the new tech?

larger capacity, in the same size, lighter and cheaper. It was not possible 10 yrs ago but now it is. That is the definition of new tech. The question "will they..." is a question of conjecture. The aftermarket is simply non-existent. Teslas are simply too new. Once the same factors come...

In the future when my battery needs replacement, will they use the new tech?

Except there is an entire multi-billion dollar industry in replacement memory, cpu, graphics chip upgrades, cooling systems, solid state replacement drives, screens, chassis, and every other upgrade for PC's and Macs that are decades old. *PC's are one of the most upgradeable products you can...

In the future when my battery needs replacement, will they use the new tech?

The DIY ease of the Prius and Toyota hybrid drive systems makes it practical to keep these for literal decades for very little money. You're right, it's a great advancement in replacement market products. With so many Y's and 3's on the road, the potential market for something like this is...

Headlight crack leading to complete power loss

A damaged headlight or bad connector won't completely shut down your car though. This is a a serious flaw in the design. More cost cutting I guess... To the OP, this is good to know in case it happens or to simply inspect the headlights time to time. Why no in line resettable fuse for the...

Lucid Gavity 😲 Awesome.. 440 Mi Range @ about $80K

Lucid Air has old man vibes. It's a nice looking car but doesn't have any feeling of "cool". It's more limo than luxury sports sedan. But, nothing wrong with appealing to that market. Old money vibes is certainly a choice. Once they get NACS and that suv, i'm sure they will sell a lot more.

Until summer when it really heats up and everything underneath starts smelling like dead bung hole. Remove the liner because that juice is probably soaking in below the surface you cleaned off.

Lucid Gavity 😲 Awesome.. 440 Mi Range @ about $80K

Lucid did a great job on the design of the Gravity. The features and packaging are great. They will definitely sell a lot more of these than the sedans. Lucid could finally get real traction now that they have a SUV. Basically everyone, including Lucid, said they are moving to NACS. Tesla is...

    Lowest Drag Cargo Box Suggestions?

This is important. This is a much larger factor than size of the cargo box. The front should be level or rear slightly higher. Ideally, the front of the cargo box should be behind the windshield high pressure zone (probably impossible for the Model 3) Risers on the rear mounts if anyone...
