~31k miles, original tires have 4/32" and 5/32" tread left

30k and have 7mm left. Happy with that. Wish I had checked when it was new. I don't know how deep the tread was when I purchased it.

    Normal mileage for a tire?

I've been wondering about tier wear too. I have 30k on my OEM tires. I have 7mm tread depth left. I was afraid I wouldn't get 25k out of them. Now I'm hoping maybe I can make 40k. 50k would far exceed my expectations. I drive in fairly flat Wisconsin. I don't accelerate hard as a general...

Zero Degree Battery Performance & Snow Tires

Yes, this is what I use in addition to having the charging finish in connection with my departure. I thought the preconditioning also warmed the battery. Maybe it doesn’t, but I was under the impression it did.

Zero Degree Battery Performance & Snow Tires

Yes, that’s part of my charging strategy. In this‘s case I charged the battery to 100% and timed it to finish coinciding with my departure. The battery 100% I got in the car and left within five minutes because of the cold and increased battery usage instead of spending about 40 minutes to...

Zero Degree Battery Performance & Snow Tires

I traveled 512 miles today in Wisconsin. The day started at -8 degrees and ended at 11 degrees. I averaged 392 Wh/hr. My overall average is 282 Wh/hr. So today I saw a range loss of 28%. Pre-Warmed car. Heat pump. Chill Mode. 74 mph.

Zero Degree Battery Performance & Snow Tires

yes, that has been my experience too. Tomorrow I will drive almost 500 miles (Madison - Milwaukee - Eau Claire - Madison) for work. I will leave with 100% battery. In temps above 40 degrees I could do those 500 miles with two charging stops of around 10 minutes each (gaining 40% of my battery...

Zero Degree Battery Performance & Snow Tires

Math is not my strength. What is the efficiency difference if in regular weather you used 9% but in -2 you use 11%? For me, in zero degree weather, I'm seeing about a 30% drop in range. I'm able to make it work, but I feel that is significant.

Zero Degree Battery Performance & Snow Tires

This morning it was -8F and I drove a round trip 60 miles. Flat, nominal wind, decent roads. I got 422 Wh/mi. That would give me about 192 miles on a full charge. Heater at 74 F. It used 34% of the battery on a trip with would use about 20% in summer.

Snow Tires vs All Weather - Any Thoughts?

Circling back to this post with my own experience. I still don't own Winter tires, but... TIRES Here's my opinion after some ice/snow driving. Snow tires are probably safer and likely a good idea. We have 1-2 inches of snow/ice on the roads in central Wisconsin right now due to our recent...

Zero Degree Battery Performance & Snow Tires

One major question and one minor question I had about Tesla's prior to buying my 2023 Model Y last June related to winter. The major question was cold weather performance. The minor question was about snow tires. TIRES Snow tires are the easy one so I'll get them out of the way. I've lived...

    2023 Model Y 25,000 (24,524) Mile Update - Cold Weather Impact

I have a 3 ton floor jack in my garage, but purchased the following on amazon. I assume it works, but didn't try it, other than to verify it fits under the car with the "puck" installed. Car Jack Kit | Scissor Jack for Car 3 Ton (6,600 lbs) - Tire Jack Tool Kit | Portable, Ideal for SUV and...

What's your Wh/mi and how do you do it? Any tips?

Just checking in on this thread again. I was super proud of my 265 wh/mi. Then winter hit. I'm up to 280 wh/mi average. I figured at the end of my first 12 months in Wisconsin I'll end up with a real work average of 280-290 wh/mi. Speed seems to be the biggest thing I can do to change/lower...

    2023 Model Y 25,000 (24,524) Mile Update - Cold Weather Impact

haha - yes. The car was not on a level surface. So its wasn't just gravity, but gravity at an angle. Who knows, under the same circumstances maybe a 3 ton jack would have failed as well. It's an absurd story really. I was on a 1000 mile road trip. Got a nail in my tire. Went to an auto...

    2023 Model Y 25,000 (24,524) Mile Update - Cold Weather Impact

The screen captures are from Teslafi. I linked my car to Teslafi before I pulled out of the dealership parking lot so it has tracked every mile I've driven. I also use the Stats app, its easier access, but the data from Teslafi is superior in my opinion.

    2023 Model Y 25,000 (24,524) Mile Update - Cold Weather Impact

I can toggle the wipers to off. But if on autopilot, and it thinks the camera is blocked, the wipers come in. Maybe I’m the only one. /shrugs/

    2023 Model Y 25,000 (24,524) Mile Update - Cold Weather Impact

My car, in Wisconsin, works this way. When using auto pilot I can turn the wipers off, but they still work automatically. I think it's a built in algorithm to keep the windshield camera view clear. Anyway, in autopilot, if the wipers want to go, I can't do anything about it.

    2023 Model Y 25,000 (24,524) Mile Update - Cold Weather Impact

I have a Lithium Ion battery. My understanding is that around 50% is the "healthiest" state of charge to have it. I don't know much about the LFP batteries but I believe you want to keep those as close to 100% as possible. But I don't have one and have done very little research into them.

    2023 Model Y 25,000 (24,524) Mile Update - Cold Weather Impact

I just schedule my departure time in the Tesla App. If I am leaving at 8am, I set that as my departure time and it does two things. One is it prepares the car cabin for departure and two it preheats the battery, if necessary. Which in the winter in Wisconsin it is. My garage hasn't gotten...

    2023 Model Y 25,000 (24,524) Mile Update - Cold Weather Impact

p.s. for what its worth. I really wanted to minimize my supercharger usage. But the realities of cold, my job, and the distances I travel have not allowed me to charge exclusively at home. As you can see in this charge I am charging almost 40% at superchargers. My overall battery deviation...

Battery Strategy and Degradation at 10k Miles

Intersting. Checking back in again. I have 25k miles now (in 6 months). I have lost 3.29% at this point. I'm pretty happy with that. You can see below that I do charge to 100% roughly once a week. I also do a lot of supercharging. About 40% of my charging is supercharging. I do hope to...

I don't really understand the software upgrades. Do I get FSD updates even though I only purchased EAP?

I guess another way of asking what I’ve been curious of is… does my car use FSD software but a stripped down version of it because I’ve only paid for EAP? Or is the code for FSD and EAP completely separate?
  26. G

I don't really understand the software upgrades. Do I get FSD updates even though I only purchased EAP?

Thanks! This is very helpful. I don’t currently have access to summon and parking features that I paid for. How do you guess this would be updated, code wise? Also, my car has HW4. Does my car Benefit from hw4 with EAP or only if I pay for fsd?

I don't really understand the software upgrades. Do I get FSD updates even though I only purchased EAP?

I’m really new to all of this, so don’t really know what I’m talking about. But it seems like the new code for FSD could impact enhanced auto pilot. So I guess I’m curious if they’re rewriting the code from the ground up for FSD it seems like that there would be some overlap with EAP but I have...

I don't really understand the software upgrades. Do I get FSD updates even though I only purchased EAP?

I purchased the Enhanced Auto Pilot package for my 23 MYLR. I see a lot of chatter about all the new software upgrades coming out. Most of it's list as FSD. Since I only purchased EAP will I see any benefit from the new FSD updates?

Battery Strategy and Degradation at 10k Miles

Oh, I was also gonna ask if it was important to calibrate the BMS. Does the calibration do anything functionally useful or is it simply for a numbers nerd (like me) to get more accurate data? Thanks.

Battery Strategy and Degradation at 10k Miles

So, do you think my strategy of charging to 50% as soon as I arrive home “while the battery is still warm” and then setting it to finish charging/preconditioning to 80, 90, or 100% by my daily departure time the next day, doesn’t really help lengthen my battery life? I get the feeling that many...

Battery Strategy and Degradation at 10k Miles

My Two Week Review - Heading towards 300,000 Miles

I confess to being a little jealous of those of you with short commutes. My use of my Tesla seems to be in the minority. 2 to 3 times a week I leave my house, knowing that I’m gonna be going two three or even 500 miles in a day. my goal is to see if I can leave with a 90 to 100% charge and get...

Reading this I feel pretty good about my 265 over 10k miles. It just dropped to 264 this past week. :-). I anticipate it’ll go up as cold weather comes. So my overall average probably will be in the 270’s or 280’s. The math is fun. It seems I am already doing the things that I can do to have...

I'm looking for an efficiency formula. Drive speed vs charging time.

Thanks for your input. As many on this forum predicted, the longer I drive my Tesla, the more I simply drive and don’t worry about these things. I still enjoy the ”math” of driving a Tesla, but I find I just wanna drive the way I wanna drive and charge accordingly. :)

I'm looking for an efficiency formula. Drive speed vs charging time.

I'm looking for a math wiz smarter than I am to help with what is probably a simple formula. Example: I have a 6 hour 360 mile trip. I will have to stop once to charge at a super charger. If I drive half the trip at 60 mph for 3 hours rather rather than 55 mph I arrive at the charger 15...

    6 Weeks & 7,000 Miles - Thoughts from a penny pincher (2023 MYLR)

    6 Weeks & 7,000 Miles - Thoughts from a penny pincher (2023 MYLR)

I have been disappointed that this screen can’t be personalized. For me its useless. The “savings” that it shows are completely false. The problem is the formula it uses isn’t anywhere close to my situation. The app compares my Tesla Model Y to a car that gets 25 mpg at a price of $4.27 per...

    6 Weeks & 7,000 Miles - Thoughts from a penny pincher (2023 MYLR)

The numbers in my post for the 2023 Camry Hybrid are indeed a guess. It claims 46 for the XSE model, but I only calculated at MPG. That said, the numbers for the Prius are real world. I get 40 MPG real world in my 2009 Prius. For what it’s worth. I believe earlier someone posts their real...

Actually, if I knew then, what I know now, I probably would have a model 3, RWD. I’m very happy with my dual motor long range model Y.
