    Firmware 7.0 - For Classic Model S

Sounds like your brake pedal contact switch is in need of adjustment. Brake lights illuminate with the slightest touch in every car I've owned, including this one.

TPMS display in V7.0 with older sensors?

Maybe it would work once the correct hardware was present. Maybe a reboot would be needed. Or maybe the SC would need to update the software. At that point I'd hope they wouldn't charge much.

TPMS display in V7.0 with older sensors?

I'd love to be able to figure out how to do this upgrade myself.

    Firmware 7.0 - For Classic Model S

Call me crazy, but I have to chuckle at all the debate about the brake lights indicator. I think people should look through the windshield, not stare at the IC hoping to reverse engineer the algorithm Tesla uses to illuminate the brake lights!

This is great. Can you do the same for the mirrors? :)

True or False: Tires on a Model S wear out faster due to the increased vehicle weight

Interesting, because the rear camber is not adjustable on the Model S. It's fixed. The only adjustment available in the rear is toe.

[Resolved] My P85 has developed the milling noise and Tesla won't fix it.

Got my car back today, and it's back to normal. No more milling noise! I'm happy. The noise was getting progressively louder and it's such a relief to have the car quiet again. Thanks again to the Rockville MD service center team! Here are the details of the parts replaced.

When the DU is replaced, are certain suspension components replaced as well?

Can anybody provide model S motor efficiency diagram???

It would be interesting to see this for the Tesla motor. If we knew where the highest efficiency regimes were, we could try to stay in the higher efficiency regions when accelerating. We could figure out motor RPM vs MPH with a little math, since it's a fixed 9.75:1 ratio gearbox. (Well the rear...

RWD performance Improvement from v7.0 - how much?

Not sure one can draw that conclusion. Every car design is different, and some cars "hook up" better than others due to suspension geometry, spring rates, damper rates, bushing compliance, just to name a few. I've found the Tesla does an amazing job of launching with such narrow tires and so...

RWD performance Improvement from v7.0 - how much?

If I had to guess, I'd say 0.1 improvement for 0-60 at best. Sounds like it's more aimed at high speed performance. It said "especially near top speed" which means we may not see any 0-60 improvement at all. We're usually traction limited anyway, right?

Am I blind? I don't see a link. But I did find the thread with a search, and the only mention of "electrolysis" was his, and he did not give a source. Did he make it up? Low Speed, High Pitch Whine

[Resolved] My P85 has developed the milling noise and Tesla won't fix it.

I'm not a EE either, but I am a ME. Where did this bearing electrolysis data come from? I'd like to read more about it. I can tell you that in designing a mechanical system, I certainly wouldn't design something that relied on electrical current flowing through a bearing, or even allow that...

[Resolved] My P85 has developed the milling noise and Tesla won't fix it.

This makes no sense to me. No drive bearing should have current running through it in any case. It's not like there are lightning bolts shooting around in there and the bearing gets in the way. The motor has windings that are completely enclosed.

Best way to dust between washes

I don't know how you guys do it. General wisdom regarding car detailing indicates that even dragging a microfiber cloth over the paint after washing should be avoided - many people use a blotting technique, or avoid using towels altogether by blowing water off the car, to avoid scratching. And...

[Resolved] My P85 has developed the milling noise and Tesla won't fix it.

Well I'll be darned. I just got a call from the Rockville MD service center (should I mention who called me?) and they explained that they want me to be happy with my car, and have scheduled me for a DU replacement at 9 AM on October 9th. I have to say, the Rockville guys have always taken care...

[Resolved] My P85 has developed the milling noise and Tesla won't fix it.

As an example: When motor power is applied, the sloppy bearing allows the two gears' mesh to change unfavorably. Gears tend to want to distance themselves under power. If the bearing is allowing relative movement because it's worn, the gear mesh may part slightly, only under power. Gears like...

[Resolved] My P85 has developed the milling noise and Tesla won't fix it.

Simple. A worn bearing develops slop. A sloppy bearing causes a variance between two gears, for instance. The distance between those two gears must be tightly controlled to remain quiet. The sloppy bearing allows the clearance between the gears to move away from optimum, and a noise results.

No sir. This is clearly a mechanical sound. This is reinforced by the fact that Tesla sometimes refers to it as "bearing noise." It has a distinctly different sound from any of the electrical noises I've heard.

[Resolved] My P85 has developed the milling noise and Tesla won't fix it.

Mine is a higher-frequency noise best described as a metal-milling sound or perhaps a sound similar to that of a cicada. I can't really tell by listening to your video whether mine is worse or better. My iPhone doesn't pick up the sound very well because it seems to capture low-frequency noise...

[Resolved] My P85 has developed the milling noise and Tesla won't fix it.

In my case the noise is loud enough that my wife and friends have independently noticed it and asked about it. Yet it's "within specs" according to Tesla. When you're not the owner of the car, it doesn't seem as bad. A short test drive does not necessarily reveal how annoying it gets to hear it...

The problem is, I don't know who to push on. Once the SC folks tell me to go pound sand, I'm stuck. I can't force them to do it, obviously.

That's good. But even with the warranty, I feel the other reasons stated are more than enough reason that this should be addressed.

[Resolved] My P85 has developed the milling noise and Tesla won't fix it.

I've really been loving this car (2013 P85) and the Rockville MD service center has been great. But recently my car started making the milling noise. They made a recording and sent it to Tesla and was told that it was within tolerances. I'm not satisfied with that response from Tesla. The...

    Air suspension phenomena?!?

Well they fixed my vibration issue and my ride height was calibrated again, apparently properly this time! The car looks like it has the proper rake now. They said they measured the rear ride height and found it to be 20mm too low (I had measured 25 with my highly accurate eyeball and tape...

    Air suspension phenomena?!?

I arrived at the Rockville MD service center an hour ago with 3 complaints: 1) Vibration in rear at about 70 MPH+ 2) Rear ride height about an inch too low 3) Faint milling noise Two techs took the car for a short drive and said they agree the rear ride height looked too low and they would...

I love my P85. And I'm looking forward to software version 7.0! I think I'm in the minority. I like change.

    Air suspension phenomena?!?

Yes but let me correct your first "was" to "is" because it has not yet been rectified. The suspension seems to operate normally, but the calibration is wrong.
  34. K

    Air suspension phenomena?!?

It is the electronically controlled dampers in your VW that allow a change from comfort to sport. Air springs can't change stiffness while maintaining a given ride height. Unlike your VW, the Model S does not have adjustable dampers, so I would say it's actually less advanced. :)
  35. K

    Air suspension phenomena?!?

Mine is like this right now. Everything seems to operate properly, but it appears the rear is too low. The first time I asked about it and pointed out the alignment TSB, I asked them to calibrate it. Their response was that they would check the software to be sure it was calibrated and that they...

    Small improvements needed to software

I'm especially in favor of #5, and I'll add that there are a few other common features on Nav systems that we should have. For example, shortest route vs. fastest route.

    Firmware 7.0 Beta Discussion

Well, you may have beat the system, but truthfully your S/N ratio got worse. You wrote more and still didn't say anything worth reading. Perhaps that's why the system tries to prevent short replies.

pano roof - vent position changed

Latest update fixed it for me. It opens slightly more now. Just enough to be actually slightly open. I wish they would put this stuff in the release notes. I guess they can't because then people would complain, "Tesla had to release a software update just to fix their sunroof vent position...

Next Generation seats soon to be available for older Model S cars

That was a thought that occurred to me as well. I did some very minimal research on this and didn't find it easy to find a custom shop that would do something like this, however. At least not in Maryland.

Next Generation seats soon to be available for older Model S cars

Bummer. While I don't think this is terribly unreasonable, it's more than I'd like to spend. Too bad, because the flat seats are my number 1 complaint with this car.

Upper Rear Link Build (Reduces rear camber to improve tire wear)

Am I missing something? I don't believe lolachampcar is making these for public consumption. That was a long time ago right? If you go to that 500-something page thread you'll see the last time he was involved with making these arms was more than a year ago. Correct me if I'm wrong.
