model 3 on track - the need for a good seat (take the poll)

@MasterC17, I'd love to see photos of the stock seatbelts routed through the OMP Champ-R. I'm also curious about the padding used to increase your comfort in the seat. Is relocating the factory seat heaters (as well as lumbar support) an option? Thanks!

Seat Back Strength - Racing Harness Ready?

I talked to HMSMotorsport (the Schroth North American importer) and suggested that Schroth test the Model 3 seats as the vehicle is quite capable and becoming more popular on track. I also talked to them about the Rallye 3 harness and asked them why it wouldn't work with the Hybrid S. They...

Seat Back Strength - Racing Harness Ready?

Agreed. I wish the stock seats weren't so darn comfortable (cushion and heat) around town. On track I slide the seat far enough forward to brace myself with my left foot on the dead pedal. And I have to lean the seat farther back from normal to not have my head pushed too far forward with a...

Seat Back Strength - Racing Harness Ready?

The geometry of the center cam lock connecting point makes sense for the normal HANS. Still a mystery to me why it would matter for a Hybrid S (as the Hybrid S does require the over shoulder straps to be retained by the headrest, as in the Model 3 stock seat, or the harness strap holes of a...

Seat Back Strength - Racing Harness Ready?

I haven't seen anyone discussing the Schroth Rallye 3 ASM harness with the stock seats and a Simpson Hybrid S. I'm interested in HPDE events with the PCA (and potentially other groups) and would like to stop sliding around inside the car. The Rallye 3 looks interesting for the below reasons...

Track report - Streets of Willow CCW

Resurrecting this old thread. I've done many track days in the 3. With the stock lack-of-camber and on the stock 20's I get the best tire wear starting at 40psi cold. Yes that's way higher than I assumed I would need. And yes, the outside edges still wear first, but in my tests dropping down...

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

I received the CCS upgrade today for my 2017 X. I tried CCS charging at two different 50kW chargers and was able to charge at 46kW on each.

    Autobahn CC Joliet IL

On a 2 mile course I have found that beginners *might* be able to do 4-5 20-30 minute sessions but are better off supercharging over lunch (after the first two 20 minute sessions. An advanced driver can use approximately double the battery of a beginning driver per mile. E.g. 40 minutes of...

    Track week-end comments

I had a great track weekend for my initial outing after a Carbotech XP10 pad upgrade a couple weekends ago (with 245/45R20 RE-71Rs on the stock wheels.) Upgraded pads made a HUGE difference over stock. On stock brakes one really has to consciously avoid braking hard at the track. On the XP10s...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

On the stock PS4S on 20" factory wheels and stock suspension I found 40psi cold was good. (~48psi hot) Lower pressures (~42psi hot) allowed the tire to roll over too much onto the sidewalls. 38psi cold (~47psi hot) worked for RE-71R with stock suspension. There really is a need for more...

    20" Wheel Options

Odd that shops wouldn't mount the 8.5" wheels on your X considering that the Tesla 19" wheels (the ones sold with winter tires) are 8.5" wide. I'd love to go with a square 20" x 9" setup. Tsportline sells 20" x 9" fronts and 20" x 10" rears (despite the fact that the X only had 10" rears for a...

Best Tires/Wheels for Tracking Model 3

This is exactly how my PS4S looked on track day #4. (I'd never driven a car with such little camber on track before so I was not paying enough attention.) I was careful to watch the rollover of the tires closely when I switched to the RE71-R. Compare that to my crazy high 50psi (hot) RE71-R...

Best Tires/Wheels for Tracking Model 3

I've never had occasion to install too wide of a tire as I've been unwilling to modify the fenders. Within "what fits" wider has always been better, IME. :) I've run Hoosiers R6 and Wet H20 on another car and they're glorious on track. (glorious = an extra ~.25 - .3 G's worth of cornering...

Best Tires/Wheels for Tracking Model 3

I'm curious about that stiffer sway bar(s). One time I found the back end of the car felt unstable under heavy braking with relatively light side to side steering input. (I've since just been careful to not do that but an inexperienced driver could easily bring the car around.) I assume you...

Best Tires/Wheels for Tracking Model 3

Did you also do the MPP rear toe arms or is there enough adjustment in the factory toe? Was it easy to get -1.8 deg camber all around? I'm curious what kind of range is possible. (I have contacted a local shop who is willing to help figure out markings so I can "easily" change between street...

Best Tires/Wheels for Tracking Model 3

Charging is a hassle. My home track has 20A @ 120V outlets (aka 16A charging.) Barely better than nothing. For the typical events I have two sessions in the morning, then I supercharge at lunch (~20 min drive to the supercharger and another ~20 min back) and do two sessions in the afternoon...

Best Tires/Wheels for Tracking Model 3

Agreed, it would be close with the RE71-R. The RE71-R 275/35R19 has a 10" tread width. The Pilot Sport 4S 275/35R19 has a 9.8" tread width. The +40mm wheels on a P3D with 3mm more rotor and 3mm spacer compared to the P3D+ +35mm wheels have 1mm more of clearance on the inside. The stock...

Best Tires/Wheels for Tracking Model 3

It certainly is crazy high pressure but that's what was required due to the lack of negative camber. I'm sure there would be GOBS of grip by installing the MPP camber arms, lowering the pressure, and increasing the negative camber - hopefully to something between -2 and -3 deg. That said the...

Best Tires/Wheels for Tracking Model 3

I corded the outer edge of 3 of 4 4S tires in 4 track days with the factory alignment at 36 psi cold.(~44 psi hot.) More negative camber was definitely needed and the pressures were too low. The tires were rolling onto the sidewall. Ambient temperature was around 70 deg F. With the RE71-4 I...

Best Tires/Wheels for Tracking Model 3

Digging up an old thread: I have run the stock Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 235/35R20 tires as well as Bridgestone RE71-R 245/35R20 tires at the track. The RE71-R tires are noticeably better on track. The 4S are noticeably quieter on the street. I don't plan to track the 4S again. I really love...

Top Gear Magazine: Model 3 Performance is faster around a track than the BMW M3!

LOL. Last HPDE I made it home with 2 percent charge. The drive home was at 50-55mph with the A/C off and windows cracked an inch for air... It's really hard not to do "one more lap" a few times!

Alpin PA4S Are Off, and Pilot Sport 4S Back On - P3D+ is *Quieter*

When I switched from Pirelli Sottozero 3 (on 18" T-Sportline) to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (on 18" Titan 7) I also thought the ride felt smoother and was quieter on the summer tires. It was immediately noticeable on the first several rides but one quickly adapts and forgets.

I changed my order to the 18 x 8.5 +35 (and plan on using them for summer street) but would also like some wider track wheels. I'd also like 19 x 9.5 +35 We need to get this going soon or I'm going to have to go another route for track.

    Performance Model 3 Snow Tires/Rims

I have the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ (235/40R17 fronts and 255/40R17 rears) on another car and find the tires to be excellent performers. Albeit, I haven't tried it in 235/35R20 on a Model 3. I ordered the TST 18" wheels for my P3+ (currently backordered) and am also trying to decide what tire to...

P3D+ Second Track Day - thoughts

You're welcome. That sounds like a nice wheel setup. Where and what did you get? (Yes, your scrub radius is only 2mm more than stock whereas MPP was 5mm more than stock.) The fact that MPP isn't complaining about the handling characteristics of the increased scrub radius is a great sign. I...

P3D+ Second Track Day - thoughts

I enjoyed a HPDE track weekend in the 3P+ (I've spent a decent amount of time on tracks - I stopped counting around 100 days of track experience) A few points I thought might be helpful to those thinking of tracking their cars: I went out in a completely stock 3P+ (stock brakes / brake fluid /...

    Tesla Wall Connector Installation

The 2-2-2-4 SER wiring runs from the panel to a junction box. The box then splits to run to each of the wall connectors (one currently but adding another soon.) Ugh. This is why I paid a "professional" I appreciate the help and will talk about this with my electrician. I did enough Googling...

Buying Performance Tires - Best size for 18-inch wheel?

People are choosing lower offsets as they want the wheels/tires to be flush with the fender. We all have different goals. All I care about is the best performance. We do need to know the current scrub radius to properly select a wheel if required to deviate from stock. All I know right now...

Buying Performance Tires - Best size for 18-inch wheel?

I just did a track day in the M3P+ completely stock and find the car to be very balanced. I also found the brakes to work perfectly for 20 and 30 minute sessions near 90 deg F ambient. No fade and no fluid boil. It's been more than 10 years since I have driven street tires on the track and...

Prodigy P3 Brake Controller to Console Adapter

I took this project right to the finish line and stopped. I sent what I hoped was the final design to a 3rd party on 3dhubs.com to print it using ABS rather than the PLA that my prototypes were using - the company had some problem with their equipment and couldn't do the job. Group Buy Poll for Mono-Block Forged Alloy Wheels by Titan 7

@outdoors, which model 3 do you have? I'm looking for light wheels that allow for tires with more sidewall. The fact that 18" tires are cheaper is a bonus. I figure that black wheels with the minimal spokes will look sweet over the red calipers. I'm certainly not worried about things...

I have ordered one of the sets of 18 x 8.5 +39mm but was considering changing to 18 x 8.5 +35mm offset as I have a Performance model. Track Report: Model 3 Performance @ ORP, day 1

Brian, just making sure, you completed the HPDE in your P3+ on stock brakes, stock fluid, and stock 20" PS 4S tires? P.S. I have a HPDE scheduled in two weeks. As I don't have the whole winter tire thing worked out it might be nice to kill off these summer tires. :)

FWIW, I spoke with Mike and my understanding is that Evasive does not necessarily think we're going to have problems fitting 9.5" wheels. Rather, they are starting with more stock-like sizes where the poll showed interest. Winter is coming so for those of us who have seasons, there are ~2...

I just ordered the 18 x 8.5 T-S5 in black. You're one step closer. :) FYI, Mike @evasivemotorsports told me the clearance from the PUO caliper to the spokes for the 18s will be close to 2mm and the caliper to wheel barrel is more like a finger. Also, for those who want light wheels the T-S5...

    1100 miles in one day?

Depending on the Supercharger spacing this is my method in an X 100D. It assume superchargers every 100-120 miles which seems quite common and a speed around 80mph (only where legal of course): On the road around 9am with 90 percent charge. Skip the first supercharger and stop at the second...

Track Report: Model 3 Performance @ ORP, day 1

I'm agreeing with your suspicion. (The suspicion that the corded tire doesn't feel as "tight") Also -.5 deg is very little camber. Would be great to be able to adjust it. Silly Tesla, if we can't adjust the camber we'll have more of a "tire killer" than a BMW M3 killer on track. ;) Just to...

Track Report: Model 3 Performance @ ORP, day 1

That vagueness in turns is exactly the feeling of a corded tire. The first time I corded a tire I thought something was wrong with the vehicle suspension. Turns in one direction felt loose and vague but the turns in the other direction were still tight as I had only corded one side of the fronts.
