    Model Y Nitpick Thread

Starting HVAC immediately upon opening any door is annoying. I trained myself to turn off HVAC before exiting the car. If you just want to go grab something from the car in the garage quickly HVAC will immediately try to turn on. There should be a setting/option to delay HVAC start upon open...

    Model Y comfort suspension?

Great post thanks. I came to the same conclusion with the "comfort" suspension being 10-15% better. I test drove a 2023. I own a 2021. Certainly I was expecting (hoping?) for more improvement than 10-15%. I came away underwhelmed.

    Manufacture Date & Delivery Date

Well that's good. Maybe it was just older "new" inventory. New car sales aren't super great right now in most of the world due to high interest rates and inflation eating up people's money. That is affecting Tesla as well with new car sales not growing anywhere near the rates they did last year.

    Manufacture Date & Delivery Date

That does seem a bit long. My manufacture date was January and I got mine in early March (that was back in 2021). Some time from manufacturing is normal. They would have to ship it to Australia of course (from China). But 6 months is a bit long. How many km were on the car when you picked...

Can you Walk-in and buy a Tesla Model Y on the spot? Inventory shows Immediately Available

In my experience walk-ins are pretty common and allowed. If you want to buy the car the sales advisor will sit down with you and complete the same steps to order it "online" as you would have at home. There are many people who want/need that assistance. Whether or not you can drive away with...

Poor Model Y LR build quality and TESLA Calgary poor service

Well that's a relief! Congrats on your car!

Poor Model Y LR build quality and TESLA Calgary poor service

My heart would have sunk, but I probably would have refused delivery if they tried to deliver me a dirty car like that. Tesla needs to be more consistent and do better.

My Experience Taking my Model Y down to 0%

Agreed. I'm not really obsessing about it, but luckily for me, charging to 50 or 55% daily fits my use case, as I only typically commute to work 25km there and back, then run a few errands. So for me it's totally fine to keep the car between 40-55%. I'm not letting anything stop me from...

My Experience Taking my Model Y down to 0%

I won't link you to any scientific studies, but I can tell from my experience smaller discharges and charging to mostly between 40-55% has done no harm (and looks like some good) to my battery. Look at this graph and 2023-24 where I started doing smaller discharges and charging to 50 or 55%...

    2024 Ys 10% off already

Tesla does contact potential customers and previous customers for test drives/demo drives. They even offered it to me last time I was at a SC - if I wanted to test drive a new '23. Of course I did. But after that they weren't after me like a traditional car salesperson at a dealership. They...

Don't wait, do PPF as soon as you can

Agreed. A guy in a Walmart parking lot hit my door with his door...big chip out of the paint. I confronted him (had it on sentry) and made him pay me on the spot the cost of the paint repair kit. But you can still see it as the Tesla white paint repair kit is lame. Doesn't match the colour...

    Man, times have changed.

Nice. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the suspension. I have a 21 MY also. I test drove a '23 and did find the suspension softer, but mostly only over smaller bumps, not larger ones. Perhaps (subjectively) a 10-15% improvement. It wasn't enough of a difference for me to want to...

Yeah, kinda would have wanted LFP, but it wasn't out at that time.

    Canada Waiting Room

Good choice. I have a Freemont built 2021 MY SR and I am pretty happy with it. Minimal squeaks and rattles, likely better than many. Had the oil pump fail at 45000kms but it was fixed under warranty and I've been trouble free since - now at 67000kms. My range estimate jumps around alot, but...

Retro-fitting HEPA filter in Model Y

I got my HEPA retrofit a few weeks ago to my 2021 MY and it's working well. I did notice slightly decreased air flow vs. pre-HEPA. I can now run the HVAC/heat/air and not smell anything getting into the car. I don't have to use re-circulation anymore! I have not actually tried the Bio weapons...

Rattles driving me insane, please help my sanity

Yeah I have a similar one coming from the passenger side area. It's not really a heavy rattle but more of a ticking type noise, but it's for sure coming from that side of the car. The car is so stiff that EVERYTHING will rattle, even water bottles in the cup holders, or in the door pocket, or...

Placing a reservation on hold and rejecting a VIN

I think discounts and prices are tied to a specific VIN. However, if there is a price adjustment down they do honor it I believe, as long as it's not a canceled order and you have not yet taken delivery.

Improvements in MY LR features July 2022 vs Dec 2023

I drove a 2023 MY with comfort suspension. I own a 2021 Model Y. While it was better, it wasn't earth shattering. I would say 10-15% better, mostly over smaller bumps but less so over larger ones. After test driving the 2023 I felt comfortable keeping my 2021. I have many of the...

    Foundation Series - Canada

Technically I don't think they are making deliveries to Canada yet, although I have seen a picture of one with provincial plates. (I forget if it was Ontario, Quebec or BC). I'd contact Tesla and ask.

Well a refresh is coming, yes. But it may be awhile. It's probably more likely an end of quarter sales push to get vehicles sold and out the door before Jan 1.

    Canada Waiting Room

My understanding is that if the car is made in China, then the Long Range will come with NMC (thus the 80% daily recommendation) and the RWD will come with LFP (charge to 100% at least once a week).
  25. D

    Canada Waiting Room

LFP in the RWD Model Y. NMC in the LR.

2021 Model Y SR Range Loss (or lack thereof)

Interesting, my range estimate at 100% is 230 miles. I have 34175 miles on the car in nearly 3 years. I have short drives mostly, and keep the battery nominally around 50%. Typically I charge to 50 or 60% daily. I've charged quite alot higher though, if needed...but for the most part unless...

2021 88xxx MY, purchased 12/26, Windshield wiper rubbing on hood

I have a January/2021 MY and I don't have this issue, so it looks like it was only some cars affected. Maybe some bad batches of wiper arms or different shape/tolerance to the frunk lid.

    September/October waiting room

Quite the roller coaster ride! Keep us updated on what happens and post some photos! With my own delivery it was delayed twice...it's sort of par for the course! But worth the wait!

Brake Lights on Infotainment Screen not Showing anymore when Braking

I think it's working on my car now as well after the update...but I installed a Hansshow display which shows braking much more clearly so I look at that now :)

    Canada Waiting Room

I was at Tesla Kitchener today and they have a full lot of vehicles. I was there all morning and I saw no deliveries. A couple people came in inquiring, one did a test drive. But it was pretty quiet while I waited for my service to be completed.

MY 2021 owner - test drove MY 2023

Hey all, just wanted to post my opinion of my Model Y 2023 test drive today. I have a Model Y 2021 SR from Freemont. I was in at Tesla Service to get a very small issue fixed, and while I was waiting they offered me to test drive the 2023 Model Y RWD. Of course I said "Yes", as this is...

Brake Lights on Infotainment Screen not Showing anymore when Braking

Just an update: My brake light is still intermittant on the screen, Model Y software version 2023.20.9. I scheduled Tesla Service and let them know and they asked me to bring in the car....they said they have to check the "circuit" and possibly replace the rear glass!

2021 Model Y SR Range Loss (or lack thereof)

Thanks for the responses. Since I typically don't need the range I'll continue to keep the battery 30-70%, and charge to a higher % when needed. So far that seems to be the best advice for longevity.

2021 Model Y SR Range Loss (or lack thereof)

Hi! I have a 2021 Model Y SR. Purchased March 6, 2021. So it's 2 years 2 months old, thereabouts. And I have 45300 km (28100) miles on it. I signed up for TeslaFi a week after I got it, and I have been monitoring the estimated range. Starting in November of 2022 my range slowly started to...

Should the MYLR be charged to 50% only?

For me planning to keep my MYSR (original SR) for a long time I am tending to only charge up to what I need. That means 50-60% daily. If I anticipate needing more charge I will charge higher, even to 100% right before a long trip. I have noticed that if you are charging in a narrow range (eg...

Brake Lights on Infotainment Screen not Showing anymore when Braking

Same here. It flickers on and off intermittantly. Here I am stopped at a red light and it is NOT showing brakes are on, even though they are and I am in HOLD. (The Faint yellow circle is me circling where it should be a red line showing the brakes are on). Wondering if I should submit this...

2023 Model Y Custom Order Wait Time

Certainly possible. Do a thorough inspection and report any issues via the app within the first 100 miles.
  39. D

Just panic ordered a MYAWD. Change it?

Yeah, keep in mind most people rarely charge to 100%, and within the first 2 years you can expect probably 5-10% degradation. So that 269 miles quickly goes down.

Help with buying Model Y new(2023) vs old

I highly doubt it. I wouldn't hold your breath for HD radar or newer cameras, it could be a long wait.
  41. D

    Pricing strategy for 2023?

Agreed. Tesla is selling a CPO (certified Pre-Owned) 2019 Model 3 SR+ in Canada with 74000kms on it for 57 CAD. That is crazy. Less than 2 years ago I bought my brand new 2021 Model Y SR for less. Prices need to come back to early 2021 levels. They aren't there yet, in the new or used...

    Canada $5,000 Referral Credit?!

Even with the $5000 credit they are still far too expensive IMHO. Not to mention if you plan on financing you will be paying rates north of 6% which will add thousands more to the cost. Not a good time to buy.

May 2022 Orders - when is your delivery?

Honestly that is not bad for Tesla, all things considered. They can adjust it if you are worried about it.
