    Received my invitation yesterday

    Whooooops. Yes indeed.

    Received my invitation yesterday

Agreed. Canada has 10% the population of the US. If we assume that half of the 400,000 initial reservations came from the US, and we extrapolate to Canada, that would mean 40,000 reservations holders in Canada. If 2/3 of them are waiting for AWD or the standard battery, that would leave...

How long do you plan to keep your Model 3?

10 years. At least. My current car is almost 14

How many are going to pass on the Enhanced Autopilot and Full Service Driving

Honestly, probably not going to get either of them. If I get the tax credit, I'll consider turning them on later, but I'll spend my initial money on things that can't be turned on by software later.

How many are going to pass on the Enhanced Autopilot and Full Service Driving

Average Joe public doesn't know about either of those things. If they know anything at all, it's that Teslas are: A) Electric, and B) Expensive

Oh, Model 3, Where Art Thou?

This. The name of the game is to limit depreciation on whatever vehicle you get. Accord/Civic/Camry/Corolla all fit the bill. Get one that's 3-5 years old so that it isn't seen as an "old" car when it comes time to sell it in a couple years and recoup your money.

Attempting to price out options for Model 3

Odds I can get a Model 3 with upgraded battery, Dual Motor, Cold weather package, and Supercharger for $45k or less? I suppose those odds increase if SC's are pay as you go, or can be bought in blocks of credits.

How About a "Maximum Plaid" Model 3?

But I bet weight will be similar given the steel/aluminum M3

How About a "Maximum Plaid" Model 3?

I'm pretty sure Elon has mentioned that Maximum Plaid would be saved for a next gen Roadster (if they ever do it)

Supercharging Price - What if it is $2500?

Because as with everything Model S/X...it's paying to make the Model 3 more affordable to the average consumer? I too think that the introduction of the Model 3 will come with a lower SC cost, and when it does that will become the new cost for the S 60kwh owners as well.

Supercharging Price - What if it is $2500?

You guys bring up some good points relating Supercharging as an option that enables additional value to be unlocked, similar to other options. All I'm saying is that for those who find the option to be more than they would get back in return, we need to evaluate whether the Model 3 is still the...

Supercharging Price - What if it is $2500?

Which is why I put it in quotations. And we aren't talking about the car itself, we're talking about the cost of supercharging.
  13. W

Supercharging Price - What if it is $2500?

Right. However intentions can change. What you'll be purchasing is a car that's incapable of going longer distances, even in an emergency. Say you have to fly home for Thanksgiving and your flight is cancelled. The airlines can't get you there until Friday because everything is booked up...

Supercharging Price - What if it is $2500?

I live in WI, but make trips home to MI about 2-3x per year. This is most of my long distance travel. Roughly 400 miles each way. Add in a couple closer long distance trips. So let's say I do about 3000 miles per year where I would use the SC network. Our trip car gets about 25mpg so that's...
  15. W

Supercharging Price - What if it is $2500?

Sure. Slow charging. At least at the moment.
  16. W

Supercharging Price - What if it is $2500?

What you're missing is that I'll be charging most of the time at home. So the question is whether I would use $2500 in gas while on longer distance trips (ie, when I'll use the SC network). Add in the time value of money and this becomes a very poor ROI.

Supercharging Price - What if it is $2500?

I'm really enthusiastic about getting this car, but it the cost is really going to be $2500, I'll need to really evaluate whether this is the right car for me. While this will not be our family trip car (that most certainly will be our Honda Odyssey), it would be nice to have the option to take...

I wonder if Tesla is really moving as swiftly as possible.

Those were prototypes. Certainly hand assembled.
  19. W

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

Part of me wonders whether the old guard of auto manufacturers would actively lobby against an extension. Tesla would be the clear beneficiary of an extension and other automakers have zero interest in seeing them succeed.

    Model 3 Federal Tax Credit

Right. That quote isn't accurate. The full subsidy does not end as soon as 200,000 is reached. There is a two quarter sunset before the 1/2 subsidy kicks in ($3750) Exact verbiage from the IRS: The new qualified plug-in electric drive motor vehicle credit phases out for a manufacturer’s...

    Model 3 Federal Tax Credit

If you get it in 2017, you could always use the option to pre-fund your 2018 taxes. The Government would be more than happy to hold on to your your money.
  22. W

    Model 3 Federal Tax Credit

That article isn't correct and is certainly out of date with the new rate of production of the MS. That said, I think a LOT of us (in the US) who ordered in the first few days will get the full tax credit. The tax credit begins it's phase out period after the 200,000th unit is DELIVERED, not...

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

I think there will be two major cancellation bumps. One will be when it actually comes time to configure the car and people now have to come up with a lot more than $1000 or figure out ways to finance their vehicle. The other will come when the tax credit starts to expire.

Model 3 page on Tesla site

Why would you expect that they know your exact place in line right now? When the time comes, they'll need to work out a proper delivery schedule, but right now I'd be stunned if they had that. That's step 137. They're on step 22.

Model 3 dual motor AWD optional

Wow. Old thread. I'd be over the moon if the M3 came standard with dual motors. Would give me $4k to spend on other options.

    Supercharger stop today...

Fair point. It's only relevant that I have a M3 reservation and find myself daydreaming at Superchargers about the future. No more, no less. Happy to hear I'm not alone! This SC was in Pleasant Prairie, WI BTW.

    Supercharger stop today...

After my triathlon this morning I treated myself to a drive past the local supercharger. Only you guys understand me. A white model S pulled in just as I left.

    Colours thread

I'm hoping for a Midnight Blue or Sig Red (unlikely)
  29. W

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

I'm not sure why you'd assume other manufacturer's BEVs would be more reliable than Tesla's when they have far less experience at making them than Tesla has.

Best Way to Honor the Intent of the Tax Credit?

You beat me to my delete. I just looked it up and found the same info. I'm happy to be wrong here :)

Best Way to Honor the Intent of the Tax Credit?

Also, don't tax returns count as income? I know you're required to list any tax returns from the previous year on the following year's return, I'm just not sure if it gets counted as "income". (This is why I pay for someone else to do them). If so, that fat $7500 return is probably going to...

Base Features Required to Seal the Deal on the Model 3

I expect no more and no less than Tesla promised when I reserved the vehicle. 215 miles per charge and seating for 5 adults. Everything else I expect to have to pay for. Some I will (dual motor), some I might (pano, bigger battery, hitch), some I probably won't (performance model, full...

Possible reservation number hint on My Tesla

While interesting and apparently meaningful (since Tesla took it upon themselves to pull it from the source code), it probably tells us very little on delivery order. For instance, those in Asia and Europe probably have lower numbers than those in the US since their stores opened well before US...

    Model 3 Supercharging Capable Discussion

Put me in the camp that even $1000 is too much for supercharger access for how little I'd use it. When we make cross country trips, it'll almost assuredly be in the family mini-van, and not in the Model 3. There just isn't enough space to carry our stuff for anything longer than a day or two...

Poll: Who thinks they'll get the full $7,500 U.S. tax credit?

Indeed math does matter. I have no interest in buying a luxury car, and don't see the Model 3 as such. If Model 3 didn't exist, I'd probably be buying an Accord or Optima. But I love the Tesla mission and am willing to pay a little more than planned to help further it.
  37. W

Poll: Who thinks they'll get the full $7,500 U.S. tax credit?

Absolutely. I pre-ordered without having any idea of a tax credit. I'll buy the car regardless.
  38. W

Poll: Who thinks they'll get the full $7,500 U.S. tax credit?

Not sure how this really benefits the model 3, with the exception of being able to flex workforce from one line to another. My understanding is that the M3 will not be built on the existing lines for the S or X.
  39. W

Poll: Who thinks they'll get the full $7,500 U.S. tax credit?

First post. Excited to join the forum. I voted "Maybe". Truth is, none of us have any idea what criteria Tesla will use as they ramp up. Will they do the higher margin cars? Possibly. Will they do simpler configurations due to problems with complex parts? Possibly. Will they move to a...
