Tesla officially launches Charge On Solar

We finally got the latest updates on our Powerwalls and one of our cars so I made a quick video of how it all works. I think they did a really nice job on this. I've got 3 Powerwall 2's, and two vintages of solar. An original Solaredge 7.4 kWh system and another smaller system 4.8 kWh with a...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Same here I was just checking the app randomly and saw the event so I dropped my reserve to help out. Seems like they had a last minute crunch so a cool way to help the grid :).

Cybertruck spotted driving around Portola Valley, looked smaller than I expected

I just saw the funky camouflaged Cybertruck driving on Alpine Road in Portola Valley. That's one city over from Tesla's Palo Alto HQ. Here is a quick video below from my Model Y's cameras so it's not super high quality. I was most shocked that is seemed a lot smaller than I expected in person...

Holiday Update (2021.44.25.2)- A Big Disappointment

Man this was a big step back, I’ve had Tesla’s since 2016 and generally like most of the UX updates. This one has some nice improvements to the visuals but moving often used options like wipers, seat heaters, defrost was unfortunate hopefully they bring that back or allow you to customize the...

Adding a hot tub after whole house Solar + Powerwalls, don't want it backed up

We have a Tesla solar + 3 PW system and right now everything in the house is backed up. We had the system put in nearly two years ago so they moved all the circuits from the main panel and a sub panel to feed from a new backup panel. We are now looking to add an electric hot tub 40A 220 but...

    Powerwall Compatible HVAC

Yes the Mitsubishi system has these ducted air handlers (Compare Products | Ducted Air Handler | Mitsubishi Electric) that swap into where our existing gas furnace was in the garage. And then they were able to get this slim smaller air handler in a small area above an addition (Compare Products...

    Powerwall Compatible HVAC

We paid about $31k for our swap which was the main air handler plus adding a second slim "pizza box" air handler and ducts in an addition, plus all the existing exposed ducts being replaced.

    Powerwall Compatible HVAC

I'll second the Mitsubishi, we have the a 60k BTU heat pump the MXZ-8C60NA2 which works great with 3 Powerwalls. It heats and cools a 3000 sq foot house. I generally see 2500-4000 watts in the winter for heating and 3000-4500 watts in the summer when it's running. We are in California so a...

    Storm Watch for 1/25/2021

I have a feature request to allow customer initiated stormwatch a few times a year :). We are in the SF Bay area in the hills and getting all sorts of warnings about wind and heavy rain including from our utility which often means trees taking out power lines. I just manually set my system to...

Will Tesla pull back equipment for siding replacement?

We are having our siding replaced in the first part of next year. We have a Solar + Powerwall setup with the Powerwalls inside but the inverter and other boxes are on the side of the house. Had anyone had luck getting Tesla to pull some of the inverters and other boxes away from the siding so...

    Dog Barrier for Model Y?

We just picked up our Model Y this week. We have a mid-sized dog and put him in the back today where he has plenty of room. He quickly jumped over the rear seats :). So we want to put a pet barrier up to keep him in the back. I found this one from weathertech but wanted to see if anyone has...

    California waiting room Q4

We picked up the car today and they were a bit behind schedule but the car was in great shape. The only issue we found was a hard to close frunk. Mobile service is coming on Thursday to fix it. Most of the other pickups we saw were black Model Ys as well. I have a 2019 Model 3 and the Y has a...

    First power outage...Powerwalls did great!

We got hit with the California PG&E planned power shutoffs. We are one day without grid power with another day to go and the system is going great! It went into Storm watch a few days before the outage and only discharged to 70% overnight and filled back up to 98% during the day. Last year I was...

Me too I have one in my model 3 and it works great, pre-ordered for our MY too.

Powerwall discharging before system turns on

I ran into this as I had mine sitting at empty but I noticed they would still pull a little bit of power from the grid from time to time I assume to keep them at a basic level of charge. So I left them on for a few weeks till they provisioned my inverter and they have been fine.

    Storm Watch on again 10/1/2020

I'm on the peninsula and its not on but I bumped my reserve to 90% as I saw the Flexalert plus high winds. I have a feature request which is a weather smart reserve capability. I'd love to give a range of reserve say 40-80% for power outages. And if the weather was going to be bad or less sun...

Water heater: Gas to electric conversion illegal in California?

I can't talk to the chaining of water heaters but I switched from a gas water heater to a Rheem 65-gallon HPWH and they removed the pedestal and just put it on the ground. Since there was no gas it was not needed. I do have a catch-pan for leaks. I'm in California. I've had the Rheem for...

SolarEdge HD inverter shutdown due to 18x22 error cause low voltage from grid

Yeah will live in a low density area back in the hills relative to other areas on the SF Bay Peninsula so we are last on the list to be restored. The Powerwalls have been great this year so glad we had them installed. I got some good advice from someone in the neighborhood who had two of them...

SolarEdge HD inverter shutdown due to 18x22 error cause low voltage from grid

Yeah I was using a Kill-a-watt to check the voltage. It was also handy for the initial off-grid testing to check the frequency used to signal the inverter to shutdown and confirming it was dropped when we had a few appliances that didn't handle 65hz well.

    First power outage...Powerwalls did great!

So last night we had our third outage and it was nearly 7 hours. I kept an eye on things and turned off the AC once we got to 12% left. The rest of the house draws only 300 watts at night so we were good until power came back a few hours later. That's the lowest I've had the Powerwalls so far at...

SolarEdge HD inverter shutdown due to 18x22 error cause low voltage from grid

Yesterday we had another outage (3rd in the last two days) but before the last full outage my solar stopped producing and filling the Powerwalls. I have a fairly new SolarEdge HD inverter with no display but it has three lights that were blinking. So I tried to restart it but same result. I...

    First power outage...Powerwalls did great!

Today we are on our second power outage of the day and the system is working like a champ! AC still going keeping things cool. These are PGE equipment issues it's not related to the rolling outages.

    Geothermal?

I'm in the SF Bay and we had a Mitsubishi heat pump installed last year to replace a gas heater and old AC unit. It works great and no more gas! If you get a great heat pump like the Mitsubishi or LG systems you don't need dual fuel. And it works nicely with our Powerwalls and solar. It uses...

    First power outage...Powerwalls did great!

Yep this is exactly the case. The outage hit when the house was pulling from the grid so there is a quick blip as it islands the house from the grid and flips to the batteries. I have a few small Cyberpower ups units just for my Comcast router and my mesh wifi unit. Also another tip I got...

    First power outage...Powerwalls did great!

Yesterday we had our first power outage for just over an hour. The Powerwalls kicked in, the UPS on my internet routers kept things happy during the switchover. The Powerwalls were at 100% and so the solar shutdown just fine. It was a non event which is how it should be!

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

I had the frequency dropped in the last week due to issues with out built in Microwave/oven and heat pump. They set the new rate to 62hz and the appliances are now working fine. We had a recent install at the start of the year and solar plus Powerwalls were done by Tesla.

Water heater: Gas to electric conversion illegal in California?

I had a 65 gallon Rheem (Ruud) put in a few months ago. It's working great and pulls 3kWh-7kWh a day. They gave an App that lets you flip demand modes and see the power usage.

Northern California PW installs BUMPED to 2020!!

the inverter is just flashing the green light. I connected to it with the SolarEdge SetApp and it says inverter was not activated. The little solarcity gateway they gave me also says no signal. It should get sorted out next week. I’m eager to get generating!
  37. C

Northern California PW installs BUMPED to 2020!!

The SolarEdge inverted does not seem to be provisioned so getting no solar. They are coming next week to finish up a panel update. I’ve read mixed things about the inverter provisioning being tied to getting the PGE ok. Is that the case?
  38. C

Northern California PW installs BUMPED to 2020!!

That’s not a great sign. My powerwalls have slowly dropped to 0% single the solar is not on yet but they are pulling 0.5 - 1.2 kWH a day from the grid. I assume/hope they are keeping themselves protected while I patiently wait for PGE.

Northern California PW installs BUMPED to 2020!!

Just following up we passed the county inspection now we just need PG&E to give us the ok to turn on.
  40. C

Northern California PW installs BUMPED to 2020!!

We got the permits all approved last year and the county has not inspected them yet so we shall see. But I don’t anticipate any issues.

Northern California PW installs BUMPED to 2020!!

There seems to be enough room to draw air in from that side. They originally wanted to install these outside but I wanted them in this storage room to ensure less temperature variation.
  42. C

Northern California PW installs BUMPED to 2020!!

My Solar (medium) and Powerwalls (3) were installed over the last two days. It went smoothly and they were good about adjusting the panel locations once they got a better view of our roof. Now just have to wait for inspections and the ok to run it full time.

    Tesla Solar/PW installer truck size

We are getting a medium solar (roof constrained) and 3 powerwalls next week in the SF Bay Area. We have a challenging long driveway that is fine for pickups and 16ft box trucks but not bigger trucks. I was curious about the types of trucks they usually use to bring and support the install of...

PW 2 install scheduled... Jan 6th, just missing tax credit reduction deadline

I'm in the same boat up in the SF Bay area and having solar + PW installed that same week. Tried for earlier but the story was PGE could not come to the disconnect. We are having our old panel replaced as part of this as well. I'm excited about having battery backup we spent about 1/3 of October...
