Today, my 2016 MS with about 85k miles started making a loud ticking noise when doors are opened. The noise continues for about 10 seconds and goes away. car is driving normally. Any ideas on cause? Thanks

California DMV - Plates & HOV Stickers

Hi rxlawdude: Did you ever hear back from the Assemblyman's office? I got my stickers at the very end of 2016 so I will barely have 2 years of HOV access which was a primary reason to buy the Tesla? Thanks

For me the big benefit of autopilot is that it makes driving so much less fatiguing

The biggest benefit to of owning my MS is AP. I drive about 100+ freeway miles daily in rush hour traffic surrounded by clueless drivers, IMHO, performing insane maneuvers to get one car ahead! Driving almost 90% of that commute on AP1 is absolutely life changing! In my previous Mercedes, I...

    Tesla is overpriced?

I was being facetious as I see the Tesla having considerably lower maintenance expenses as compared to a Mercedes. I am an extended warranty, dealer only service kinda guy with all my cars and motorcycles. I also keep my vehicles for atleast 10 years. My point was that after owning the MS for a...

    Tesla is overpriced?

Just paid $1100 for an A service (fancy name for an oil change) plus spark plugs and engine air filter for my wife's 2015 ML 350. DAMN!!! So far only $600 for 12k service on my MS with 24k miles in 1 year. The Benz is getting replaced by another Tesla!

AP1 Model S crossed yellow line during lane merge

Pretty common in my car as well so I am ready to make manual corrections in merging lane scenarios. Driving in the leftmost/ #1/ carpool lane means dealing with the yellow line at all times.
  13. joebiker25

Which lane do you auto steer in on the highway?

I use lane #1 as HOV access is key on my daily commute in AP1. I am extra vigilant in construction zones with cement barriers making up the left lane line but haven't had any weird behavior. I end up making room for large bagger/cruiser motorcycles as I don't want to risk contact but it is worth...

    Another bad SP100D delivery experience

WOW! That is painful after the hefty price tag and the anticipation of owning a car unlike anything else on the road. As others have said, once the issues are ironed out, the car will put a big smile on your face everything you look at it ..leave alone when you are driving it...which will be a lot!

FIRMWARE UPDATE! AP2 Local road driving...and holy crap

I commute 70 miles roundtrip on freeways every day and use AP1 for at least 90% of the drive. Wonderful on clearly marked lanes and stop and go traffic but I wouldn't dream of using it on on/off ramps, light colored road surfaces or in merging lanes. City streets would also be a big no-no as the...

    Following distance

AP tends to brake nearly every time someone cuts in (even if there is plenty of space) and then resumes speed as appropriate in order to maintain following distance. In really slow traffic, there is usually a DB Volt driver :-) who will cut in with half a car length of available space and I take...
  24. joebiker25

    Following distance

I am totally aware of that and was using car lengths as a term of reference. My point is that this distance between cars or "unspecified time intervals" have increased quite a bit from before at the same speeds.
  25. joebiker25

    Following distance

I drive with AP on for 90%+ of my drive every day. Since the last 2 updates in January, it feels like the following distance has increased quite a bit. I used to keep the following distance at 2 or 3 car lengths but now I am firmly at 1 car length and even then it seems far off enough from the...

    Motorized automatic car wash

I have Xpel wrap for the high impact areas plus Opti coat pro for the whole car. My detailer demonstrated how to wash the car in about 30 minutes with less than 1 gallon of water. I have it down to a science now and wash it myself every 3 weeks or so. Silver car helps as well :-) I bought a...

Supercharger - San Mateo, CA - Park Place (LIVE, 8 V2 stalls)

Supercharger - San Mateo, CA - Park Place (LIVE, 8 V2 stalls)

Stopped by yesterday at 8 PM for the first time on my way back from downtown SF. NAV showed me getting home to with 4% charge so I decided to stop and charge for about 10 minutes. Can we now expect a 360° "birdview" parking camera ?

I am notorious for rashing up my wheels so I had alloy gators installed on my MS when I was getting it wrapped and coated. Totally blends in with the tires and gives me a great deal of piece of mind AlloyGator - Protect Your Wheels From Kerb Damage

You can also initiate HOLD by pressing down hard on the brake till the HOLD message pops up. I have not...

EAP HW2 - my experience thus far... [DJ Harry]

What he ^^^^ said! Also, at very slow speeds (I believe < 18 mph or so), AP1 will lock onto the car in front of you and follow it...so if that car veers to the left lane line, so will you.

EAP HW2 - my experience thus far... [DJ Harry]

Exactly! Hence my assumption that AP 2 blind spot detection will utilize the 2 side cameras as some point!

EAP HW2 - my experience thus far... [DJ Harry]

Blind spot detection is NOT an AP1 feature so I am puzzled by your puzzlement :-)
  39. joebiker25

EAP HW2 - my experience thus far... [DJ Harry]

I was under the impression that with the addition of the side cameras, EAP would render cars to your side and behind you to mitigate the present blind spot detection deficiencies. Doesn't appear that is the case at this time... BTW, yesterday, there was a motorcycle rider in front of me weaving...

    AP in heavy rain

The SF Bay Area was hit by a heavy winter rain storm yesterday and I had the pleasure of driving through it on my way home. First Long(ish) Trip In MS60. Accident Avoided!

I use AP every day on my mostly highway commute and love it! Today I was cruising along at 72 mph on a 65 mph freeway with very light drizzle and suddenly AP dropped to 60 MPH. A warning message flashed by but was gone before I could read it. After about 10 seconds, I was back to 72 MPH. This...

    My Real World "Factor"

Most of my driving is commuting to work in traffic. Occasionally, when the HOV lane opens up I will blast it to 80 ish mph and still find my average WH to be below 300 and rated miles pretty close to actual driven...plus or minus 5% at worst.

The car is incredible and will more than make up for the kids "delivering" them. I got my car back today after 3 days at the SC for a rattle, alignment and mirror issue. They gave me a brand new Cadillac as a loaner and it felt like such a piece of C&@$ compared to my MS. Grinned all the way...
