    Low/No speed suspension noise normal?

Old thread, sorry but I have same noise now as OP, is this normal? Creaking noise when turning wheel maximally while stopped or low speed, coming from under car front end. I’ve heard it before in other (older) cars

Creaking noise from suspension - resolved!

So someone posted this question already, but I’ll ask again- is it normal to hear creaking when maximally turning wheel when at low speed or stopped?

Will there be a correction the MS market?

My own personal experience, had my 2017 S75 in for service a month ago before the new price reduction, I asked for fun what trade-in value was, they gave 43,500, before I did the MCU2 upgrade. Then I asked again this week after the price reduction, now the trade-in they offered is 39,000...

Failed Rear Lower Control Arm / Service Bulletin SB-19-31-001

Does anyone know when Tesla changed the control arms to newer, presumably better version? Does it correspond to China’s recall (into 2017 cars)? Makes me a little worried about my July 2017 build.

Got an 85D as a loaner... handles surprisingly well vs. my 3

I’ve been driving a P85D loaner the last few days, does feel pretty good compared to my 2017 S75. More sporty through the turns, better (heavier) steering feel than my S. However, still doesn’t feel nearly as sporty as my wife’s model 3. I wish they could do something about the steering feel...

Michelin vs. Goodyear, what to get?

Just installed Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4s, replaced the original Goodyear Eagles the car came with. Tires are a little more sporty but so far I’m taking a bigger range hit than I was expecting, averaging around 10% more energy usage per mile. The tires Tesla picks for us do matter on range.
  7. R

Due for new tires - 19" Michelin Primacy Anything better?

Are the Goodyear Eagles that bad compared to the others mentioned? Going to need new tires soon, SC only offered Goodyear Eagle touring again ($230 each) or Michelin PS3s ($280 each), leaning towards PS3s but only 20k mileage warranty and in FL will not even get that

    Drive Unit Replacement

My 2017 S75 has droning sound at highway speeds above 82 mph from day one ownership, didn’t want to go through the whole DU swapping thing again (replaced two DUs on my previous 2013 model S for the droning), but it seems to be getting louder and if I’m going to keep this car that noise will get...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

This is a very very long thread, and this may have already been asked and answered, but here goes. I just got an email from Tesla, until July 1 I can upgrade EAP to FSD for $3k. Does that mean I get MCU upgrade or any other hardware upgrade included in that price? I have a mid-2017 MS, MCU1...

I've loved Tesla for 7 years. But after years of abuse, I'm out

Tesla could really eliminate 95% of the negative feelings about the service experience by just making it possible to speak to someone on the phone. Whoever thought it was ok to cut that part out of the equation really sucks and knows nothing about service. And yes I’ve owned Teslas since 2013...

Finally sat in a Model 3.

I love Model 3 interior. What I thought at first was not that materials felt cheaper compared to a 5 series BMW or E-class Mercedes (same price range as current M3 version) but that the materials felt lighter, like cutting weight in there was a big factor. Luxury translates to heavy/weighty...

Have not seen many here in South Florida still. I too am looking forward to seeing them more than the ubiquitous BMWs

    So sick of the negativity

Love my model 3. I’ve posted on other threads - this obsession with panel gaps while ignoring the car’s high-tech features, solid feel, excellent acceleration and handling, etc, and most of all ignoring that that it is an EV, is mind-boggling. If your car is leaking because of panel gaps, I...

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

Techmaven, great post on Bolt vs Model 3 (and BMW 3 series). You nailed it, C&D reviews clearly inconsistent and lame

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

This thread is going all over the place, but going back to original topic (sort of), I think that the negative critiques of the Model 3 are really getting over the top, and if you actually drive a Model 3 and a Bolt, you will see very quickly they are not in the same league. Yes we do not yet...

Car and Driver Model 3 Test - Not Great

I didn’t fact check this but a previous post mentioned that C&D gave the Bolt a 5 star rating? This alone really makes their Model 3 review highly suspect. We test-drove a $42k Bolt and were extremely unimpressed with the ride and the cheap-looking and feeling interior. We are now lucky...

Green Car Reports: Model 3 quality is terrible

I don’t mean to offend anyone so I apologize if it came across that way. I have my own set of things that would bug me if they weren’t right in a new car, and as I said the M3 has none of those problems for me. It feels very solid and well-built. I just worry that a lot of potential owners...

Green Car Reports: Model 3 quality is terrible

Jeez... I’m almost tempted to go look over the body panels of our Model S or our Model 3 to see if they are perfectly aligned. But you know what? I’ve never looked for this on any car I’ve ever owned. I do care if the car rattles, squeaks, doesn’t run smoothly, controls don’t work, or most...

Model S to model 3 regret?

I had an experience like another poster here. Had a 2013 S85 that I traded in for 2017 S75. Then got asked to configure M3 much sooner than expected. It’s my wife’s car now. I love both cars. Compared to my 2013 Model S, love the Model 3 way more. Compared to my 2017 Model S, not sure I’d...

    Driver's Seat extremely uncomfortable.

Having a lot of issues with the premium seats in my 2017 Model S. Have my own thread on here about the uncomfortable seats. I liked the 1st gen seats on my 2013 S better, although they didn’t look as nice. These new seats hurt my upper back a lot. The high side bolsters seem to push my...

Just picked up M3 today - buying more Tesla stock

Sorry to those who viewed this as pumping the stock. My purpose was to point out that Tesla has again hit a home run with the Model 3. I think the car will sell like gangbusters. It is so much better than the Bolt, which I drove, and at this point is it’s main competition on the EV side. Far...

Just picked up M3 today - buying more Tesla stock

Not going to do another pros and cons thread. Just want to say the car has met all my expectations and then some. Fast, super handling, beautiful interior, high tech, no fit and finish issues whatsoever. The only problem Tesla is going to have is making them fast enough to meet demand. I...

Premium seats - my back isn’t happy

Thanks for the replies. I have been constantly messing with the adjustments and still cannot find a comfortable position. Telescoping the wheel towards me so I’m not reaching for the steering wheel helped a little. As I said I feel like the side bolsters go up very high and are pushing my...

Premium seats - my back isn’t happy

Hi all, I’m hoping someone here who has had a similar problem can offer advice. The long and short of it is I have a late 2017 Model S with the premium seats, and by the end of my 35 min commute to and from work, my upper back is really aching. I don’t know what it is about these seats. They...

Standard Audio System - surprisingly good

I had UHF system on 1st Model S, back when was a $900 option, when I traded in for 2017 Model S I got standard audio. It did sound better than I was expecting. However I added a 10 inch JL audio sub in custom enclosure in trunk. Now truthfully it does not sound so much better I feel to my...

    Any truly quiet drive units?

Well at the very least I can say based on my experience that the highway droning sound (different than milling sound) was NOT fixed in newer DUs and is noticeable in my July 2017 build-date car with newest DU. Just drove 300 mile road trip and can say for sure I hear it clearly, and louder than...

    Any truly quiet drive units?

I’ll try to get a recording. What I’ve noticed in the cars I’ve owned and am wondering if is normal or not, is that I don’t hear the DU at all until I get to a very specific speed range, It’s silent below or above that range. The range itself is short, in my current car 81-85. Above 85...

    Any truly quiet drive units?

So maybe a little noise in a certain speed range, the speed range differing in each car, is normal? I wish I didn’t hear it but if it’s normal and all cars have it I can live with it (I think).
  32. R

    Any truly quiet drive units?

Yes it’s the newest (faster) DU, car build date mid-July. The drone is actually a little louder than on the 2013 I traded in. Ryan tank, I’m not sure if whine and drone are the same thing? Drone is a low pitched sound, been described as similar to bad wheel bearing. I think I’ve read every...

    Any truly quiet drive units?

I’m just wondering if I again have a problem DU or do I just have very sensitive ears for something that is basically normal in all Model S.

    Any truly quiet drive units?

Hi all. Just traded in my 2013 S85 for a 2017 S75. I’m hearing a highway drone between 81-85 mph in my new Model S. My 2013 had DU replaced a few times for drone noise between 76-80 mph, and it was never completely quiet after each DU change, and it was always in that same speed range. I...

    Touchscreen: Mositure/Leak?

Just a follow-up, called service center, explained to advisor I'm seeing a sticky goo on bezel below touchscreen and in center console (about a teaspoon dripped there). They immediately over the phone said they know the problem, need to replace touchscreen and it's on back order. So I can...

    Touchscreen: Mositure/Leak?

Been following threads discussing touchscreen failures, as I have a 2013 Model S and live in South Florida (perfect set-up for developing the dreaded bubbles). I haven't noticed any bubbles but I am noticing an odorless very sticky substance under bottom bezel of the screen. I keep cleaning it...
