    Accelerating when braking?

Don't recall the specifics of the message, but it detected that both pedals were pressed at the same time and was politely chewing me out. Software version 2024.3.15.

    Punctured tire/question

"Countless crash test studies prove that it is much easier to maintain control over a vehicle if it is the front tire that suffers a blowout. That’s because even if there is are major tire defects causing the blowout, you’ll still have the ability to steer the vehicle."...

    Accelerating when braking?

Putting your foot on the brake will not deactivate the accelerator pedal on the Tesla. I briefly drive with both brakes and accelerator applied to get the water off the rotors and pads after I wash the car. A warning appears on the display but the car continues to acccelerate. One day when...

    Punctured tire/question

It'a actually safer to put the repaired tire on the front. You have steering control of the front but no control of the rear. https://booth.law/faulty-tire-rotation-lawsuit/#:~:text=Tiremakers%20and%20major%20retailers%20are,principle%20applies%20to%20rotating%20tires.

Poll: Do You Plug In Every Day (for daily driving, home charging)?

By charging to 80% only when the battery gets down to 30%, the average battery SOC is ~55%. Leaving the car plugged in and charging to 80% all the time would increase the average SOC which would decrease battery life.

Poll: Do You Plug In Every Day (for daily driving, home charging)?

We charge our 2022 MYLR when it gets down to ~30% with a max charge level setting of 80%. This reduces the average charge level on the battery compared to charging every night to 80%. It also minimizes wear and tear on the charging plug and connector (car).

Maybe I’m overreacting?! 😱 [first curb rash]

The wife curbed the Gemini wheels on our 2022 MYLR twice in the first year. My eyes were drawn to the damage everytime I walked by the car and as the saying goes, "Once you see it, you can't unsee it." Got a set of Rimetrix Medusa wheel covers and they completely covered the damage and also...

Wheel hub cap replacements for 2024 OEM Y 19 inch wheels

I had curb rash on the rim of both wheels on the right side. My eyes were drawn to the damage every time I walked past the car. Did some research and found that the Rimetrix Medusa was what I was looking for. The two-part locking system and covers made in the USA set them apart from the others...

Do you normally use "CHILL" mode or "NORMAL" mode with your model Y?

I tried Chill mode on our 2022 MYLR, but the passing power was noticeably reduced and I didn't care for it. Some day, I might need the extra power to avoid an accident.

About to buy my first Tesla. What shoud I look out for?

Cost to insure a Tesla is high because of replacement and repair costs. $2600/yr seems to be about the average for the model Y. https://www.forbes.com/advisor/car-insurance/vehicles/tesla/model-y/

19" Gemini wheel covers - A recommendation to end all others?

I bought Rimetrix Medusa wheel covers because they have a two-step locking system and are made in the USA. The center cap does have to be removed before taking the covers off, but a small flat-bladed screwdriver does the job. I consider that a security feature. They are very good quality and...

    Dealing with Curb Rash

Like many others, we've experienced curb rash on the Gemini wheels of our 2022 MYLR. The problem is due to the wheel rim sticking out further than the sidewall of the tire. One solution is to replace the 19X9.5 Gemini wheels with 19X8.5 wheels, but that is an expensive proposition. I've tried to...

    Heavy Steering

My only complaint with the steering on our 2022 MYLR is the quick steering ratio. It's fine when driving in the city but a bit skittish when driving at freeway speeds. I run Sport mode to alleviate that.

    Normal mileage for a tire?

It looks like we'll be down to the wear bars at 18,000-20,000 miles on our 2022 MYLR. As others have indicated, the rear tires wear faster. With a 46/54 (F/R) weight distribution of a heavy (4400lb) car and regerative braking accomplished by the rear motor, the rear tires don't stand a chance...

Life span for Continental ProContact Rx Tires

On our 2022 MYLR, rear tires (OEM Contis) were 5/32"-6/32" at 8,500 miles. They've been rotated since then, but we'll be lucky to get 20,000 miles out of them. FWIW, tread depth measured by SC at 200 miles was only 7/32", which is 2/32" less than the Continental spec. Why would Tesla put...

    Update 2032.38.6 Issues

I deleted and reinstalled the Tesla app on my iPhone yesterday. I checked the App Store today and the Tesla app was updated 15 hours ago, so I performed the update. I have App Updates turned on in the App Store (Settings). You are correct about Background App Refresh.

    Update 2032.38.6 Issues

Removed the Tesla app on both phones and reinstalled. That took care of the phone and location problems. Not sure how the Tesla car update affected the phone app but it certainly did the trick. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

    Update 2032.38.6 Issues

Installed update 2023.38.6 yesterday. Today, I called the wife who was driving around town and she couldn't receive/accept the call. She knew it was me so she called back. I told her to do the two-button reboot. I then tried using the Tesla app to find out where the car was and it couldn't be...

Hankook ION EVO AS SUV - Model Y Tire Review

Thanks for the review. The Hankooks look promising. Looking for better ride comfort and tread wear rating than the OEMs (Contis).

Gemini Tire replacement - anything better than OEM? (all season)

I'll be putting that to the test when it's replacement time for the OEM Contis, which have a tread wear warranty of 40K miles.

Gemini Tire replacement - anything better than OEM? (all season)

The Turanza Quiettrack has a tread wear rating of 800, but Consumer Surveys on Tirerack.com show a wear rating of 7.9, which is good but not great. Wear ratings are established by the tire manufacturer and there is no NHTSA or third-party verification of the results. They can say whatever they want.

Gemini Tire replacement - anything better than OEM? (all season)

The Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus and Pirelli P7 AS Plus 3 are on my short list. Both are highly rated with good tread life.

Gemini Tire replacement - anything better than OEM? (all season)

We'll be lucky to get 20,000 miles out of the OEM (Procontact) tires on our 2022 MYLR. The rear tires seem to be wearing at twice the rate of the front tires. Not too surprising since 56% of the total weight (4400 lbs) are on the rear tires and regenerative braking occurs with the rear motor...

Plugged in or not plugged in?

We charge our 2022 MYLR to an 80% level when it gets down to ~30%. The car remains unplugged otherwise. As such, the average SOC is ~55%, which I believe is better for battery life than keeping it charged to 80% every day. Also, less wear and tear on the charge port and plug. As always, YMMV.

    Tire Rotation cost.

Just had tire rotation done at America's Tire in my area. They used 4 floor jacks with pucks on each jack point and also used torque wrenches on the lug nuts.. Very happy with the quality of their work and it was done at absolutely no cost! It doesn't matter if the tires were bought elsewhere...

    Tire wear depth

Rear tires on our 2022 MYLR are wearing twice as fast as the front. Regenerative braking and weight distribution of 46/54 (F/R) may explain the difference. I'll be lucky to get 20,000 miles out of the OEM Contis.

    Tire Cost > Electricity Cost

I'm running Bridgestone Ecopia EP422+ on our Chevy Volt and the high tread life numbers proved to be real. The specs on the Bridgestone Turanzas that you're running are impressive, but the tire weighs 32lbs, which is 5lbs more than OEM. I've always tried to keep unsprung weight as low as...

    Tire Cost > Electricity Cost

I was not offering advice. Saying that "Frequent tire rotation makes it easier to achieve that objective." is a simple statement that holds true for many owners. If you rotate the tires very 5,000 mile and all the tires are worn out at 30,000 miles and I rotate the tires once at 15,000 miles...
  40. T

    Tire Cost > Electricity Cost

The whole point of tire rotation is to even out the wear so that all the tires are worn out at replacement time. Frequent tire rotation makes it easier to achieve that objective. What you don't want is to end up with 2/16" on the rear and 5/16" on the front. That's leaving a lot of money on the...

    Tire Cost > Electricity Cost

Hankook just might have a winner on their hands. The tread wear rating of 600 (50% more than OEM Contis) got my attention. https://www.americantiredepot.com/tires/hankook/ion-evo-as-suv/255-45-19/1033215

    Tire Cost > Electricity Cost

4-wheel alignment done by Tesla SC at 228 miles to correct left pull. Done again at 1,892 miles to correct off-center steering wheel that was not corrected with first alignment. Slight amount of negative camber on rear wheels which is normal for Tesla. No feathering of tires which would indicate...

    Tire Cost > Electricity Cost

It's the wife's car and she's not a speed demon, which is why I'm shocked at the rapid tire wear.
  45. T

    Tire Cost > Electricity Cost

Like most, I'm concerned about efficiency and the cost of operation, with little attention paid to the running cost of tires. I recently checked the tread depth on our 2022 MYLR and was shocked to find that the rear tires are down to 5/32"-6/32" in only 8,500 miles. At this rate, I'll be lucky...

Bridgestone Turanza EV Tires too narrow

You might want to add Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus to the list. Keep in mind that the DWS06+ and PS4 are performance tires and lack the low rolling resistance of the OEM (Procontact RX) tire. As such, a range hit of approximately 10% can be expected. FWIW, the section width of the PS4...

19" Tire options: Continental vs Michelin?

Meas. rim width was 8.5" in both cases.
  48. T

19" Tire options: Continental vs Michelin?

That's surprising because the OEM and DWS6+ have the same (10") section width. The Michelin Pilot Sport, however, has a section width of 9.8" which means that the tire is recessed 0.1" on each side making the wheel lip more prominent.
  49. T

Tire for 19" Gemini wheels less prone to scraping wheels?

The wide wheel is indeed the problem. The 18x8.5 wheel with a 255/50R18 tire would provide the same overall diameter as the OEM setup, but tire choices in that size are very limited. The 255/55R18 offers a bigger selection if you don't mind a 3.7% speedometer error. Maybe if the wife stops...
