Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Whoa. Image of CyberCab?? Looks like pop-up doors and a seat facing left towards... an open shelf (i.e. not a steering wheel)

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

No, I said, in my opinion the fall has been partly the fault of Tesla / Elon. Why has been covered by many of us - repeatedly - over the last long while, I won't repeat the suggested reasons again. I understand if you disagree with my opinion, but I the facts about share price compared to the...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I didn't talk about Tesla's growth. I quoted the facts about TSLA's share price compared to the market. I admit SP is an indirect indicator on the health and perception of the company. But maybe there's another thread for Tesla production than this investors thread.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I joined around the same time you did. I don't think the average quality of posts 'declining' is fair. Between 2018 and 2021, Tesla became the most valuable auto manufacturer in the world and the stock jumped ~20x. I used to post charts showing TSLA passing the other OEMs and charts showing how...

I'm voting for my Alphabet (Google) shares. I noticed two things: Motion 5 seems to be the same as we have for TSLA's vote. Is this some common shareholder's particular campaign? Motion 6: Can you imagine if somebody challenged Elon that his views were not truthful and transparent enough...

Personally, I have no doubt that AI will have as much an impact on the world as the Internet did starting around 1990 (for those of us old enough to have been around needing to convince our companies, and our family and friends, that this was going to happen.) Quick: what is the Internet's...

If 500 people are let go at once, for a categorical reason and not their individual performance, simple math suggests not all 500 of them were 'bad employees'. Instead, it seems to me more likely that the way the Supercharger program was being run required a complete overhaul, and the Executive...

Good points. Does every dollar in carbon tax go to a cause or program you and I believe in? No, of course not. Is the only (Cdn.) party that supports a carbon tax the only good party? No, of course not (besides, the Green Party also supports a carbon tax). I've consulted for our federal...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think that's wishful thinking on our part. Here in Canada, the Liberal government may soon be booted out of office in no small part to it's rollout of a carbon tax. And the recent rise in favor of hybrids over EVs in the US is another example of citizens virtue-signaling they care about the...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Thanks, but I disagree. Whatever they can COGS the Model 3 at, it's easy to imagine an urban vehicle that has 2/3 the acceleration, 2/3 the entertainment, 2/3 the range, 2/3 the storage, and a more economical production model, which should cost ~2/3 as much. So if the 3 COGS for $30 K, then the...

Elon: "We're putting the 'auto' into 'automobile'" edit: which came after "like Cathie Wood says, we shouldn't be seen as a car company, we're an AI / autonomy company" edit: In response to a question about if Tesla can keep up with Chinese competitors being able to imitate a low cost EV.

Could this just be Tesla reverse-Osborning? (Has anybody said this already? 8 pages in 24 hours?!? I can't keep up). If people expect a $25 K Tesla, and it's stopping them buying what is offered for the next 18 months, there's something to be said for the tactic of Tesla pretending they aren't...

Clearly - and I'm certainly not advocating - this design is about the peak power the 48 HP motor adds to the downsized 4-cylinder ICE compared to last year's 6-cylinder standard. The hybrid may not even get better fuel economy than than this year's pure ICE model...

You made me think of a "hybrid" service - a new model compared to Uber - that Tesla could apply to Semi but also Robotaxi: assisted onboarding / offboarding. Hire staff, or partner with enterprises, (or even Optimus?) to help people access (e.g. install app) and load a Robotaxi (e.g. luggage)...

Need for Tesla Advertising / PR

Seriously? IG is not mainstream. It's not filled with doubters or tech-ignorant people. Why is Tesla so averse to paying a normal amount for some normal outlet, video advertising? I'm thinking TV, Amazon Prime, even a series of billboards (one focused on safety, another on range, another on...

FWIW, I don't know, I'm guessing, but the road trip culture is maybe not as great in Sudamerica than America. Therefore, Superchargers may be less critical to success. That's not me, as in 2019 I turned my Canadian Model 3 around at Monterrey instead of continuing West to Baja. Would have been...

Correction, PLUS 250°F in the daytime (NASA's site corroborates this page). I include the Quora link because astronauts used spacesuits to equalize the extreme temps. Any reason Optimus, largely as-is, couldn't do the same? The suits would be even simpler as there's no oxygen requirement...

Interesting to imagine what Elon backing away from operations would do to the SP in the short- and medium- term. It's worth rolling out again - especially for those who've joined in the last couple of years - we surveyed forum members back in 2021 and asked this exact question. Huh! So I guess that's a fringe benefit of using aluminum castings: you can store inventory exposed outdoors! You wouldn't do that with plain steel before painting and putting on new cars. Any current recommendations for renting a Tesla starting in Copenhagen heading up to Norway and Sweden?

From Copenhagen at least, you're free to travel anywhere in Scandinavia without Hertz restriction, so it was no problem. I believe I may have had to indicate this upon pickup as it's a special fee, I can't remember for sure. Just tell them at the airport it's what you intend to do.

Any current recommendations for renting a Tesla starting in Copenhagen heading up to Norway and Sweden?

When we arrived in Reykjavik airport, there were 8 (eight!) gleaming white Model Y's ready for renters. I own a 3 so it was fun to have the space and much easier trunk. In Copenhagen, our grey Model 3 was on its own. I was also afraid of getting a different EV (I own a 3 in Canada), and unsure...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Maybe you're both right, @Krugerrand (haha). We can agree that, from a revenue standpoint, the S and X are increasingly marginal to TSLA's bottom line. Perhaps even more importantly, to the degree they advance the mission of converting the planet to sustainable energy, Tesla's other projects...

As a data nerd too, I love this, @Buckminster , thanks. Comments: This is exclusive of Energy and AI / Dojo ...why? Why "Dev" team only? I like your point, @Krugerrand, and I agree with us aiming to be impartial in our assessments. But as usual, I think you're being a bit harsh / unfair. In @cliff harris' defence, I think there's an unbiased difference between GJ and the others he mentions, and it's not about if we agree with...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Oh I agree with you on that point. I was commenting to you and @Webeevdrivers that Tesla has shown a disinclination to significantly re-architect existing, mature products (e.g. no single-cast stamping on Highland when we all know single stamping is better and cheaper for new builds). For...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

It's not "cheaper to build" if it's already being built. Remanufacturing S and X would be net additional cost over existing production. That's lost money. And always you have to ask yourself: would it sell more cars? Clearly Tesla does. That's why they didn't add large casting to Highland...

Interesting: in many cases, Canada usually aligns with US market offerings both because of our geographic and economic connections. Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Maybe that's why Tesla sent around "How-to-build-a-48v-car For Dummies"? To prevent intrepid OEMs from working on a divergent, only twofold improvement in wiring, like the current airline industry, and instead spur them to the quadruple improvement 48v Tesla is betting on.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think what the Cybertruck has shown us is that Tesla "cool" is less and less about adding cool things. It's about eliminating uncool (unnecessary) things. This is, of course, both cool and cost-effective (repeat after me: "the best part is no part at all") No door handles (keys are long gone)...

I'm surprised nobody sells a car with standard steel panels dipped in primer / sealant (or whatever the protective undercoating is) at a discount. Would it save $500 / car? $1,000? $3,000? Many people would take a sheet-metal-coloured car for $3000 off the sticker price. A wrap's a luxury many...

I'm thinking the reverse: I have an early reservation.
