    Electrician in Ottawa

Had my Tesla HPWC installed with my existing 200 amp panel. I have a M3 LR so I went with a 60 amp circuit. Ontario code requires a disconnect at the wall connector. That can be a NEMA 14-50 plug or an appropriate switch. Since I wanted 48 amps I went with a cut off switch I picked up at...

Model 3 Standard Range Plus or Long Range AWD in the Ottawa Area?

First production run LR RWD M3 owner in Ottawa here. I hail from Labrador West so I know how to deal with extreme cold, I've personally experienced -106 C (exposed skin freezes in minutes). Just last week, my family (in Labrador) just went through a bout of -45 C cold. So why all the...

Tesla recommends cleaning and lubricating all brake calipers every 12 months or 20,000 km

I just had mine done. Was charged $175 per axle and I was informed up front. I even asked about it and Patrick confirmed that they charged per axle. After 40,000 kms, spending $350 as my only maintenance is not a big deal. However, I would be concerned if other SCs charge a different rate...

    Canadian Stores and Service Centers

I second that comment. The old DOW Honda is actually 2 buildings, the show room and the maintenance bays. Tesla leased just the maintenance bays for 2 years. The property is owned by Richcraft and is destined to become condos just like the Claridge ICON on Preston, across the street.

    Canadian Stores and Service Centers

Just been at the Ottawa SC on 845 Carling Ave getting my Model 3 LR RWD some items for the up coming winter. I got 40,000 on the odometer and it's time for the first paid maintenance. The maintenance was for cleaning and lube of front/rear brakes as suggested by Telsa for cold climates/road...

Ottawa Area Tesla and Electric car Rally Oct 05, 2019

Is this related to or is the "Drive Electric" event on Oct. 5th @ IKEA or different/co-incidental? I've registered with the Drive Electric Event which I note is at 4 pm @ IKEA and not 10:00 am. The description says "We will drive a convoy from Ottawa to Smith Falls" but that doesn't align with...

    Ottawa Service

I was in for service last week (warranty control arm replacement & alignment) at the new Service Center. It's pretty bare/basic and they're still setting up (doing electrical, etc.). Kevin did say that they'll be doing glass there and they had a bunch of replacement glass on a pallet already...

    Canadian CHAdeMO charging

Received a reply from Tesla and they confirm that they received a bad batch. They are correcting the issue but it’ll be 6-8 weeks before they receive replacements. They asked if I want to wait or get a full refund. I chose the refund since I’m done my vacation for this year. I’ll just buy it...

    Canadian CHAdeMO charging

Got a replacement adapter from Tesla and tried it out. No joy as it has the same problem, “gun lock problem”. Here’s a quick video of the problem:

    Canadian CHAdeMO charging

As I mentioned up thread, I had to watch my charging session so someone didn’t mess with the adapter/cable and seriously get electrocuted. Pull out a 120V power cord from an outlet and you’ll get a blue spark. That’s only 1800 Watts AC... DCFC uses 50,000 Watts DC which will arc to the closest...

    Canadian CHAdeMO charging

Yes, I shaved the bottom trying the locking once in a while. Eventually the bottom of the notch was removed. This allowed the latch to fully engage but you could still remove the gun without the release button (but it was harder to do so).

    Canadian CHAdeMO charging

After removing the bottom plastic of the locking notch and shaping it, the charger no longer stops with a lock problem. I was able to charge and get out of a bind. However, prior to charging, the gun can still be pulled out of the adapter without pressing the yellow button. I’m not stupid...

    Canadian CHAdeMO charging

Followed the instructions but that’s not the issue. The charging works until the silver “gun” falls out or never begins because of “gun lock problem”. Basically when you insert the gun into the adapter, it should lock in place until you push the yellow button. In my case the gun doesn’t lock...

    Canadian CHAdeMO charging

Bought the Chademo adapter for my New Brunswick trip. Tried charging on my drive down, both at Circuit Électrique and NB Power chargers. Both used the Yazaki silver gun with yellow button but it would not lock. Charger fails with gun lock error. Any advice? It looks like it worked for you...

    Canadian Stores and Service Centers

Had an appointment with Tesla mobile service yesterday. Patrick and a new hire showed up (in a Model S no less) and the topic of Ottawa's service center obviously came up. Ottawa's Tesla Service center is located at the old DOW Honda Carling location. They *only* took over the maintenance...

Model 3 FSD Upgrade Price is $4,000CAD

If you go FSD, you get the 3.0 hardware upgrade, aka new AP computer.
  18. kaoru

Price just dropped for FSD in my account to $2600 from $4000

Full Self Driving is NOT autonomous driving, you still need to pay attention and take over control as needed. On the autonomous scale, Tesla is achieving L2 with the goal of going to L3/L4. L5 is still a ways off in both tech and law, but it is achievable.

Price just dropped for FSD in my account to $2600 from $4000

Enhanced Autopilot doesn't exist anymore, it's now Autopilot (TACC & Autosteer) which is only good for highway *single lane* travel. The "Enhanced" features, aka auto lane changing, Navigate on AP, Autopark, Summon, etc., are now part of FSD (which costs more now). However, FSD now has...

Price just dropped for FSD in my account to $2600 from $4000

The AP computer is NOT the MCU, AP 3.0 hardware only improves FSD capabilities. The MCU does all the screen draws, apps, etc.

Price just dropped for FSD in my account to $2600 from $4000

Got my Model 3 LR RWD June 5th, 2018. Really wanted EAP but at $6,600 was just to much at once, so I assumed that I'll get it later for $7,900 afterwards (that's EAP). The FSD at the time was $4,000 before delivery and $5,300 after so it'll cost me $13,200 to upgrade afterwards. Fast forward...

    Headlights flickering, cause?

Well, when my driver side headlight module was replaced, Phil (the Tesla ranger) explained that the module has to be "paired" with the car in order to work. Initially the headlight didn't want to turn on and the firmware (on the headlight module; they have their own CU) had to be authorized to...

    Headlights flickering, cause?

Here in Ottawa it’s been really cold. My Model 3 is my daily which I park at work 9-5. Of course, since update 2018.50 I’ve enjoyed leaving work at 5 in warm car thanks to the “keep climate on”. However, yesterday I got into the car and noticed that the headlights flickered momentarily. I...

    Ottawa Model 3

According to the owner's manual, the safe only jack points are literally little triangles with a single spot. Everything around it is not safe and will cause damage. I picked up some jack pads from Reverse Logic, though some people have used hockey pucks with a screw on nub.

Who has lost regen with winter tires?

I haven't put on my winter tires yet on my M3 RWD, still running stock 18" naked Aeros. I'm waiting for my Nokian Hakkas R3s to arrive which will go on the stock rims. Regen has changed since the update (42.3, installed by mobile Ranger) and with the cold weather just starting. I've noticed...

Windshield wiper issue in auto mode

Wipers smooth in manual mode, jerky in auto mode... it’s not the blades. It like the auto mode is sending signals (to wipe, increase/decrease speed, etc.) during a wipe causing the behaviour.

Windshield wiper issue in auto mode

Yes, my windows were treated with Ceramic Pro Rain coating but that irrelevant. If watch the video, using manual mode at any speed the wipers work smoothly. Only auto mode causes a problem. That means that the coating is NOT a problem.

Windshield wiper issue in auto mode

It seems my M3 windshield wipers work fine in manual mode. However when put into auto mode, they are very jerky, inconsistent with the swipe. It’s not the blades itself. Anyone notice this?

    Ottawa Model 3

Model 3 Long Range has a 48A onboard charger. Only the Standard Range battery is 32A, which is not available yet. Also, the Tesla HPWC is a "wall connector", not a charger. There is no "wall charger" for Tesla's as that would have to connect to the car via DC. Kaoru

    Ottawa Model 3

Now that makes sense, which means that your charging at 32A max. which is the rated current for the UMC cable and a NEMA 14-50 outlet. That was my original intent but I have a 200A service so I went with 60A breaker/48A rated HPWC. When you go 60A or more, you require a safety switch (where as...

I'm actually booked for this weekend to get ceramic coating (gold package) from Exotic Autowa (in Orleans) which they specialize in. I'm not looking for tinting as the Model 3 already has subtle factory tinting. Also, I paid a lot for that glass, I want to look through it and not have an...

Are electricians price gouging because you bought a tesla model 3?

No, that wasn't me as I'm mostly Ottawa South and around the Vanier area. During my delivery in Toronto, I met 6 people from Ottawa picking up their Model 3s. I've yet to see any of them which prompted me to join the Tesla Motors Club and the Ottawa Model 3 group. I'll be going to the meet up...

    Tesla Service is Sub-optimal

I refused to sign until I inspected the car, with a flash light, inside and out. Besides some easily fixed items and an oversight on their part, everything was good. Of course, they were pushy about signing at every step but I pushed back. Of course, there were a lot of new personnel for the...

Are electricians price gouging because you bought a tesla model 3?

I'm in Ottawa and I had my Tesla HPWC installed in May. Cost me $852.00 including taxes, permit, and inspection. This included ~25' of #6 armoured cable and 60A breaker. I provided the Siemens 240V 60A 2 pole safety switch (from Home Depot $57) which is required by code. Here's a pic:
