    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Speaking of EoQ push, I got a text today telling me they upped my trade-in estimate. If any of the cars in inventory here had the front bumper cam update, I’d probably go for it.

USA MY RWD has soft limited LR battery!

It’s not “overly optimistic”, as it’s been audited by the EPA. It’s just not a highway range number. It’s the number for the EPA Combined Cycle test. https://brandonpaddock.substack.com/p/whats-up-with-teslas-range-numbers

Any Model S Refresh/Plaid owners with the 21” Arachnid wheels regret not going with the 19” Tempests?

I originally ordered the 19s back when the current gen launched in 2021, but ended up changing to the 21s to get the car earlier. I think the Arachnids look great, but the cost in $ and range is probably not worth it. I’m actually considering moving to a new 2023 model, and if I end up going...

2021 MSP to 2023 MSP and its differences

New Model S and X vehicles with AP HW 4.0 actually do have a forward-facing radar. It’s a new one, though it’s unclear if it’s in use right now. Model Ys with HW4 apparently do not have the radar, which is kind of odd. None of the new cars have USS. Rumor is they’ll be adding at least one...

What's new in current production model S vs 2021 model

I came here with this same question (I have one of the earliest “refresh” S Long Range models from 2021). In summary, here’s what I’m aware of in terms of changes: AP HW 4.0 New high res cameras w/ LED flicker mitigation and wider angle on repeater cams New Tesla-designed “Phoenix” radar...

Does the 2021+ Model S have a HEPA filter?

Ah awesome, that is great to know. Thanks!

Does the 2021+ Model S have a HEPA filter?

I’ve been wondering this for a while. The cars have “Bioweapon Defense Mode”, but in the Tesla shop the replacement air filter they sell for the 2021+ Model S (“refreshed” / “Palladium”) is a small $34 filter which seems to be pretty basic. Is the large HEPA filter a separate thing? Or is it no...

Phone Key not auto-presenting handles, but Fob does?

This is finally resolved! I had the car in for a different service reason, but I mentioned this problem to them. They investigated and determined that the front Bluetooth endpoint wasn’t working properly and had been failing to apply firmware updates for four months. They replaced it, and now...

Phone Key not auto-presenting handles, but Fob does?

Yes. It doesn’t seem to be any kind of configuration issue. The phone key itself works fine, if I touch a door handle it reacts. It just doesn’t auto-present when I get near the car, ever.

Phone Key not auto-presenting handles, but Fob does?

I haven’t been able to resolve this. I was hoping the latest beta build (2022.4.X) would fix it, but alas it still isn’t working - even after deleting and re-pairing everything.

2022 MS Refresh - “howling” echo sound at cruising speed

I’ve been having the same problem, and it’s super annoying that ANR keeps turning itself back on, too. I was wondering if it was related to having aftermarket winter tires and rims, but can’t really say for sure. I don’t think I’ve checked to see if my 2022.4.X beta build still does it, but it...

Phone Key not auto-presenting handles, but Fob does?

Yup. Also tried deleting and reconnecting the phone key, as well as Bluetooth. Toggled the setting, reset the car, etc. It just doesn’t do it. The phone key works otherwise, and the handles pop out if you press them. But auto-present seems broken.

Phone Key not auto-presenting handles, but Fob does?

I’ve been having the same issue. I’m not sure exactly when it started, but nothing seems to fix it. Just broke in an update I guess? Hopefully it gets fixed soon. I’m on FSD Beta build 2021.44.30.15 (soon .21). Anyone know if this is fixed in the newer non-beta 2022.4.X builds?

Refresh OEM tires on 21'' (MPS4S) cold weather cracking

Interesting. My SC said they don’t have them and have no ETA. They also said it would be over $5k which surprised me - apparently they charge more for the Tempest/Cardenio wheels than if you get them in the out-of-stock winter package on Tesla.com. I didn’t ask about that pricing difference as...

Refresh OEM tires on 21'' (MPS4S) cold weather cracking

Well I had no choice partly because I was out of town when the first ~20F nights hit, so my car has been out in the driveway with the stock (21”) summer tires on. I haven’t moved it, and the temps only got to 20 or 19 very briefly. I sure hope no damage occurred to the tires due to this. I had...

Vendor Refresh Model S LR/Plaid : Winter Tire Option

Asked this in the other wheel/tire thread but this one may be more appropriate. Has anybody purchased the Tire Rack package with the Rial Lugano 19x8.5 wheels? Do they work well? Any concerns with being too narrow? I originally ordered with the 255/45 Sottozero rubber, but Tire Rack won’t have...

"Refreshed" Model S model VIBRATION tracking and information thread!!!

I’ve never noticed anything like this in my LR (early one, delivered end of June), but I’ll look for it next chance I get (which might be a while with current weather and delay in getting winter tires).

2021+ Model S tires and wheels: all things (Plaid, LR, OEM, aftermkt, 19, 20, 21, summer, winter etc.)

Update: Tire Rack called me this morning to let me know the the Sottozero tires are special order and aren’t expected to be in until the end of Jan. Instead he offered me Continental VikingContact 7s, which should be available around the 10th. They’re also a bit cheaper. They’re the same...

    2021 Model S Plaid/LR Fire

Well given that they (twice?) had mysterious delivery holds on the S for “special inspections” (or whatever vague reasons different people were given), I think it’s entirely possible they found an issue affecting some % of vehicles and went and inspected the remaining ones waiting to be...

2024.24.1 rolling out Active Noise Cancellation on Refresh Model S - how good is it?

Tesla rolls out most updates to a small randomized group from the eligible audience (vehicle model/config, region, etc), to gather data they can compare against a randomized control group. It can take a little while for them to get the data they need. They also may find issues along the way and...

Model S Delivery Hold Week of July 19 2021

I noticed last week that the manual was updated to this version (2021.12.25), but I don’t know what the differences (in the manual) are. My car is still on 2021.12.4.7, but as of today it seems to have an update available. It’s not parked at home due to some construction happening here, so it’s...

Model S Delivery Hold Week of July 19 2021

The software uses the radar if it is present. They also wouldn’t include it in these cars if it wasn’t being used, that would not make any sense. They removed it from the US 3 & Y because of a parts shortage, but they still have enough of them for the S & X. Whether they ever decide to stop...

    2021 Model S Plaid/LR Fire

Well, your estimate might have some merit in the case that it is a design flaw (which could potentially be Plaid-specific, or common to all refreshed S models). Another possibility is that the specific car / pack was defective, e.g. due to a manufacturing issue that only affects a small % of...

Recent fire another reason all controls on screen are a bad idea!

Robotaxis are most certainly not required to be level 5. Waymo, Cruise, others are all L4 robotaxis. L4 means no human driver is involved, but there are some restrictions on operational domain (location, weather, etc). L5 is vaguely defined and it is questionable if it’s even desirable to...

    FSD is a fraud

I dislike their use of the name “FSD”, but it was never ever defined as “level 5”. Presumably it was/is meant to achieve at least L3 or probably L4, though. Today it is of course L2. Even the “FSD Beta” stuff is, for the moment, L2. They certainly have the intent, and belief, that they can...

You generally cannot tell if a car is moving at all, let alone its direction of travel, from a still photograph. It could have been rolling backward. I received my new Model S LR on the 29th, and while I’ve unfortunately only had limited time to drive it so far due to holiday plans, I wanted to write down my initial impressions of the steering yoke. I think they just haven’t updated the software to display the proper range based on wheel configuration. Though they’ve been inconsistent about that in the past, so maybe it will always display 405 at full charge.

M3P vs LR Model S refresh real runs

Yeah I haven’t done any scientific comparisons and have only been able to drive a little bit, but my initial impression coming from a 2018 3P to the LR is that the LR feels about the same off the line and pulls harder at higher speeds (60 to 90 happened in an instant).

Mine was assigned while the car was in transit from Fremont to Washington. I don’t think it was the SC doing it but who knows. It could just as well be done by Fremont but they’re just putting cars on trucks as fast as they can and matching as they go out the door.

Well, technically that depends on how you define highway and most importantly what speed you’re going 😉 At 55mph that might be doable! At around 40mph (without any stops) these cars can go crazy distances. Just takes a while!
