    NEMA 14-50 Wall Connector Warranty

I have the discontinued NEMA 14-50 WC unit. It is heating up and reduces charging rate from 40A to 30A to 15A within 20-25 minutes. I changed the 14-50 receptacle to Hubbell (as once recommended by Tesla) - still the same issue. In the same outlet, my UMC with the 14-50 pigtail draws 32A till...

Does leaving just the pigtail plugged in use electricity?

The car may draw small amounts of power occasionally ... for its maintenance. Leaving it plugged in is significantly better than worrying about this small but necessary consumption.

Living with 120V - 8000 miles and counting

That's interesting indeed the correlation between temp and rated range/BMS drift! Keep in mind measuring exact SOC on the battery is not easy. If we can do that ...

Living with 120V - 8000 miles and counting

I live in the Cincinnati area, and we still use the flat rate system. In spite of this I start charging with my 120V outlet for a 30mi RT at midnight, to end charging roughly when I leave for work. I consistently get close to 4.5mi/h back. If your daily commute is 40mi RT, you could get the...

Range of M3awd dual with 2019.36.2.1 at 12,000 miles

Interesting ... mine's a LR RWD too, see my Stats picture from a post this afternoon: Living with 120V - 8000 miles and counting Except for the recent dip, my rated range is almost the same as yours. Is your data from TeslaFi?

Found out today, the Wh/mile number changes at the .5 mark!

I figured something like that based on "Since last charge" data back in summer. They should report Wh/mi with a significant digit after the decimal point. Likewise Tesla should include one significant digit in KWh usage under "Since last charge" - after all they do it for mileage reported...

Rated Range Cold vs Warm & Charging

@ewoodrick the battery is (for sure) inefficient in colder months compared to warmer months. But does it degrade faster in colder months, meaning do we lose more rated range in colder months than in summer? My understanding is that rated range is more a function of battery usage pattern and...

Living with 120V - 8000 miles and counting

Only yesterday I downloaded the Stats data for rated range. It's always been hovering around 325 till ... The arctic outbreak we had from 11/12-14, when temps didn't go above low-mid 20s for 3 days. In that cold spell I hit the 9000mi mark, and saw the rated range drop significantly below the...

Living with 120V - 8000 miles and counting

I do 120V charging in my apt garage with a 30mi RT on weekdays. My daily SOC is 50%-65%. Top up only when I go on a trip. Also occasional SC up to 85%. Have 9000mi in 8 months. With recent drop in temps, saw a small dip in rated range on Stats, but seems to want to go back to 325mi. Let's see...

considering buying a Model 3 SR+ but have no home charging and only 120V at work; have come concerns

I live in an apt and have 120V (NEMA 5-15) outlet in my rental garage. No charging at work with a round trip of 30mi. It takes me 6h to get back the 30mi. 1. No. Difficult. 2. Not really. 3. Should be fine. 4. Not really.

Scheduled Departure - does it warm the battery?

In the Cincinnati area we have flat electricity rates. In spite of that "Scheduled Departure @ 830a" finishes charging around 600a every time. Doesn't seem to warm the battery. By choosing "Start Charging at 100a" for an approximate 7.5h charging session with 120V to reach my limit, if I left...

    110 V charging and driving only a few miles/day...

My RT is 30mi/day. I charge using the standard 120v outlet. I always leave it plugged in when not driving. My battery max needle is set to 65%, and charging starts at 10p. Almost 4 months and 4300mi later, everything is fine and dandy. Only once did I take it up to 100% (for a long trip) over a...

Tips on how I averaged~190 wh/mi for 17,000 miles (so far...)

Thanks for pointing that out. Couldn't have said it any better. The compressor must be 1 kW rated, and for my speed and distance the 30 Wh/mi increase (compared to without AC) seems right.

Tips on how I averaged~190 wh/mi for 17,000 miles (so far...)

Good point (also by @Aellinsar). It is likely that the AUTO option is more efficient - have to try that. It appears that AC consumes about 30 Wh/mi.

Tips on how I averaged~190 wh/mi for 17,000 miles (so far...)

Yes, that's why my last point to wait for a full year report. I will be happy with 220-240 Wh/mi average, which is still 4x efficient than my Fit.

What happened to the Tesla Wall Connector with the NEMA 14-50 plug?

HPWC with NEMA 14-50 will pull in 40A compared to 32A by UMC NEMA 14-50. You get 25% more power than UMC.

Tips on how I averaged~190 wh/mi for 17,000 miles (so far...)

After 3 months ... 3800 mi, 200 Wh/mi, efficiency is 125% (I guess actual range/rated range) with an MPGe of 160-200, and the indicated rated range is 325 mi. I have found the following to help: Maintain constant speed as long as possible, highway or not. Yes I realize that energy consumed is...

    Battery Degradation Scientifically Explained

Charging at an RV park with a 50A outlet

I am late to the discussion here. Great trailer and OP. The distance between the trailer and the vehicle, aka vehicle-trailer gap, plays a crucial role. If the flat front of the trailer is well within the slipstream of MX, then it will have a small resistance to overcome, since the pressure...

Noise reduction seal cutting into the original glass/rubber glue

My method was NOT scientific - I used a decibel meter app on the phone. It appeared that without the rubber seal I had an average of 83dB and with the seal about 78-79dB between the same two exits on the highway here. I understand there are variabilities; for instance a convoy of those loud...

Discrepancy in the displayed speed limit

I didn't state it ... yes, I am responsible for knowing the speed limits. Would have been a problem in my (former) ICE as well. I am new to Cincy (moved from New England), and here I hadn't "gone for a drive" in my ICE, and so I don't know the speed limits on many local roads. I do know very...

What is your best Wh/mi record?

With 30 mile RT HWY commute @ 65mph, I get 210-220 Wh/mi. If I do mostly local and 5-8 miles of HWY, I get 180-190 Wh/mi. 4th week, have 900m and lifetime average of 227 Wh/mi. So far very pleased with the sparse energy consumption!

Discrepancy in the displayed speed limit

In the Cincinnati area I am finding that the displayed speed limit is off about 50% of the time on local and state roads (outside of the interstate systems). Beginning to Think that the M3 SR+ is the Best Choice - Here's Why

I miss the Northeast ... NJ has no sales tax for full EVs, MA and some other states have these EV incentives. Here in the midwest (Ohio), there's no such thing. No real incentive to switch, in case you're just below the affordability range. If anything, recently the state legislators passed a...

I am in the same situation till my apt allocates a garage to me. Silly trade in question

I was lucky that my Carmax valuation (which Tesla matched) with the sales tax break was barely $300 less than the highest KBB value. So private sale wasn't worth it for me, and I traded it in. But in your case, no sales tax in NJ for EVs, go for Vroom!
