Hey guys,
TLDR wise to buy a Used 2017 LR RWD for 45k total due vs 2019 New LR AWD for ~58k total due before 3.75k tax credit? Saving 10k for no AWD and 2 years back.
I just want to know if I screwed myself by ordering a 2017 Used Long Range RWD from Tesla's inventory website.
I'm wondering:
1. This is a super early build and that's what concerns me the most. I didn't know this when I ordered it, but the earlier model 3's supposedly suffered from build quality issues. How prevalent are these issues on the super early "nearly hand built" 2017 model 3s?
2. Also concerned to see that Model 3's have changed in significant ways, with a better autopilot computer and headlights that are considered actually safe by the IIHS. Is there any place I can see a full list of changes? I'm realizing getting information on these cars is actually quite difficult because the VIN decodes to a very coarse description (basically just year and drive type) and I want to know what other downgrades to expect in 2017.
3. Frankly not that discounted considering it's a 2017 and only RWD, reflects an implicit 15% * 10% depreciation in 2 years
4. Tesla used inventory buying experience has been a NIGHTMARE for many people... unable to get a reasonably well refurbished vehicle for months, and having to become essentially your own ombudsman/customer service coordinator to get disconnected groups within the Tesla service organization to deliver and eventually fix your probably flawed car.
I also cancelled my 2019 LR AWD order today, over concerns that 58k total amount due was steep vs 45k for the 2017. However the cancellation has not been reflected in my account and I'm wondering if I can abort and go back to the new car.
